It's hard to criticize this offseason as they did a great job, but they failed to secure the missing piece in a # 3 or better SP. They get no pass on being poor for not signing another SP. It was a need, and they didn't address it. They gambled on their guys health, and now they may pay heavily for it.

 

Also, Rodon non-pick keeps looking worse.

​Not sure what you're asking here. Alvarez, Mathis, and Kelly all go to the 15-day DL. Capps, Realmuto, and Brignac all called up from AAA. Aaron Crow is transferred from the 15 day DL to the 60 day DL to make room for Brignac on the 40 man roster.

​Eh. With Hendy, Latos, Cosart, Haren, and Koehler stopgapping until Fernandez got back, I thought we were pretty much okay. The one thing we couldn't have was an injury to one of our top three. And it happened.

 

If we would have signed Shields or another high price tag starter, I doubt the Yelich deal would have been done when it was. So there's that for the long term.

 

 

To continue on the surplus of moves: Urena coming up for Phelps, he's on paternity leave.

 

 

I think Urena is an incredibly underrated prospect. Been incredibly consistent every place he's been. Potential 2/3 IMO

Jose Urena wat. Didn't expect to see him in the majors until 2016. He's a good not great pitching prospect, so don't expect him to light the world on fire. A bit like Desclafani when he was a prospect for us. Interested to see if he could be a better prospect than projected like Urena did.

 

EDIT: Just saw that Phelps is still starting. Now it makes sense that he's an extra arm. Still interested to see Urena whenever he gets the chance, but Nicolino should be the next good prospect in line.

 

 

Right but why bring up one of ur top 2 starting pitching prospects to be a random bullpen arm for three days and possibly not even get in a game. Off the top of my head I can't think of a better option but it's guys like Dyson who get these assignments. Just a puzzling choice to me.

 

Edit: Just checked the roster and Rienzo, Ramsey, Flores, and Dayton all seem like better options than having Urena warm the bullpen seats in Atlanta for three days.

Since they need offense and they also know JT needs at bats, I think JT will get more starts than we expect. Like he won't just get the day games like most backup catchers.

 

Now if JT suddenly can't get hits or Salty suddenly gets some big hits then JT will stay on the bench but right now Salty is so glaringly clueless that even Red will sit him.
