April 22, 201511 yr It's crazy yes, I honestly want to put most of the blame on the players than on Red, yes his calls have been questionable at times, but he can't control guys not able to hit and produce runs, defense laziness, the pitching staff not able to last 5 innings, and the bullpen who are hit or miss. Hmmm...i read your last sentence and i think about mike dunn. Im with you man
April 22, 201511 yr Was hearing backman audio on youtube....might be the guy we need. They don't need someone who says "fuck" a lot. They need someone who knows who to put players in the proper match-ups to succeed.
April 22, 201511 yr They don't need someone who says "fuck" a lot. They need someone who knows who to put players in the proper match-ups to succeed. If thats the case....then ol trader jack should get a phone call soon.....hopefully.
April 22, 201511 yr How's that possible though During the Loria years that's probably been true at least 75% of the time.
April 22, 201511 yr I think we all had this in the back of our heads. Its no secret that every time we have had expectations, its pretty much been a colossal failure.
April 22, 201511 yr Did anyone expect anything like this? I'm...baffled. If anybody says they did, they're a damn liar. The scenario to start the year was if everything went right we'd be a playoff team. I'm not sure we really calculated what worst case scenario would be for this team, but eight games under .500 before April is done wasn't in the cards. This has been something else. There have been bad starts to a season, but I haven't seen the team quite play down to standards like this. Only thing that this reminds me of was the 1-19 open to the month of June in 2010 that led to Edwin's resignation. Other than that I'm baffled. I'd say this is rock bottom and that there really isn't much further down to go, but I'm really not even sure about that anymore. This team shouldn't be this bad, but with every added game I'm finding newer and newer depths of despair that this team can find. Everything we did this offseason and everything since 2013 has been in preparation for this to be the year to succeed. Everything was for 2015 to be the playoff run. That's what the rebuild mode was all about. If this isn't the year...I don't know when the year will be. There may not be "the year" for a long, long time if this current squad can't make things work.
April 22, 201511 yr There are 4-5 games that probably could have been wins if the pitching wasn't absolute shit. For that, I blame Loria. It was pretty clear that we needed another #2-3 starter and bp help before the season started. Now, even though the team his hitting better, we still need to score a ton of runs. The pitching looked like it had decent depth to start the year. While we were skeptical he could repeat, Cosart was coming off a low 2 ERA showing in his Marlins season last year. Henderson was expected to lead the rotation until Jose was healthy, Latos was expected to be a low 3 ERA with potential to be an All Star (he is likely the biggest reason for the lowered expectations of the rotation. We NEEDED Latos to be at least a #2 to survive, and he just isn't the same guy.) We all knew what we had out of Koehler and that's what he's been so far, Dan Haren has been about what you expect Dan Haren to be, and Phelps/Hand were always extra hands if needed. It's weird because I'm not sure if I can say the starting rotation has deviated all that far from expectations outside of maybe Cosart (well hopes more like it)/Latos/Phelps. Alvarez's injury and Latos' falling apart are the two biggest problems. Alvarez looked like he could be an ace again before the injury hit. Even after a serious surgery, a Mat Latos who posted low 3 ERA's in the Great American Bandbox (Ballpark) should be able to long term be a low 3 ERA at Marlins Park. It really pisses me off how none of our starters can go deep in games. It hurts. LITERALLY everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. There's really no more words I can say about this team right now.
April 22, 201511 yr This season could be over before it even starts. We are 8 games under and if we fall to 10 or 11 under, very few teams can recover from that. This season will be over before it even started and I think the losing is really starting to affect confidence. You can see the sort of "not again" faces on the players. But like most people, I just can't pinpoint what seems to be missing. Last year's team had spunk and went down fighting. This team just feels like they lose and its whatever. I thought they were all vining and getting along but right now that seems like the furthest thing from the truth. I just don't fucking get it.
April 22, 201511 yr By the way, anyone notice how bad the game wraps on mlb.com are now? They are all like these standardized wraps now with barely any quotes. Horrible.
