April 27, 201511 yr Just noticed marlins man is behind home plate in nym vs nyy. Dis guy. That guy likes his attention, eh? Split this into its own thread from the Post Game thread - Admin
April 27, 201511 yr That guy likes his attention, eh? I can't stand him I really can't. He is an exibitionist and it's annoying and old.
April 27, 201511 yr Went to the game today. Had a great time and the kids ran the bases. Dee Gordon on base is a liability and I'm sick of seeing him get caught. Kid sucks at stealing. Just noticed marlins man is behind home plate in nym vs nyy. Dis guy. This will become a huge problem once his OBP comes back down to average. Right now, everyone seems to give him a pass on this because his OBP is what? Over .400 I bet? Too lazy to look up.
April 27, 201511 yr Haha, not you, man. Sorry about that. lol okay man. I consider all of us the biggest Marlins fans out there plus some others we probably know personally but it's almost embarrassing seeing a guy like that. It's just unneeded attention.
April 27, 201511 yr Exactly, and surely it's just a coincidence that he's at the primetime Sunday Night Baseball game instead of supporting the team that he pretends to care about so much. Yes. I would much rather be at the game in Miami than in new york. When he wears the visor sideways I feel like I need to take a breather because he is an obstruction to a game I want to watch
April 27, 201511 yr You guys don't seem to know Marlins Man's story. Everything I've read says he's actually a great guy and isn't looking for attention, he just seems to get it. He's a rich attorney who loves baseball and the Marlins as well as all sports. He's divorced and his ex-wife hate sports and discouraged him from attending games. When he got divorced he decided to use his money to treat himself to frequent trips all around the country to watch different teams that he never got to enjoy before. Now since he is a die-hard Marlins fan he chooses to wear his red orange jerseys everywhere he goes (he has at least eight of them)... I respect that he chooses to continue to represent his team even in a different city when two entirely different teams are playing. I've also heard he's a friendly and respectful fan as well. He's not seeking attention, he has the financial means to sit behind home plate across the country wearing his favorite jersey and so he does so. If anyone has actually heard otherwise feel free to correct me.
April 27, 201511 yr I don't understand the hate for Mr. Leavy (Marlins Man). He gives to charity, he takes time to meet with fans that seek him out. He doesn't try and glorify himself, fans go to him looking for pics, autographs, etc. He's not a jerk who tells them to take a hike. He has the means to do what many of us wish we could do. Where's the harm in that?

Where's the harm in that? Im sure he is a good guy personally, but its a little too over the top. The wearing of the jersey makes it look like he is rubbing it in. Just perception thats all. On the side note, i wish i had as much money as he did. 4 strippers coming over every damn night.
April 27, 201511 yr Exactly, and surely it's just a coincidence that he's at the primetime Sunday Night Baseball game instead of supporting the team that he pretends to care about so much. He doesn't "pretend" to care about the fish, he's at A LOT of their games and he supports them even when he isn't. This isn't an act, the guy has been a fish season ticket holder for years. He wasn't at today's because he was flying to NY so he could see this game. I don't see how its a problem that he went to a Mets/Yankees game or that he goes to other big sporting events. He's a bigger and better Marlins fan than most Marlins "fans" are.

I'm pretty sure the story is he originally wore the bright orange jersey so that his friends could find him easier on TV. Not to show off to them since at the time he wasn't sitting right behind the plate, but rather just so they could spot him while watching. No harm there. Then it just became his look once he moved to the better seats and fell into the national spotlight. Don't quote me on that but its how I recall it.

Okay we can say he missed a hell of a game in miami though!

April 27, 201511 yr Lots of jimmies being rustled in this thread. Marlins Man seems like a nice dude who just happens to like a team with a really loud jersey. If there was a guy with a Yankees jersey behind the plate at a lot of games, no one would think twice. On the other hand, can we talk about the dude who hasn't shaved or cut his hair since Jose Fernandez underwent a completely routine sports medicine procedure?
April 27, 201511 yr Exactly, and surely it's just a coincidence that he's at the primetime Sunday Night Baseball game instead of supporting the team that he pretends to care about so much. Not to argue, but I think he has two to four 81 game season seats right behind home plate and donates those he can't use. How many season tickets do you have to support the team "you love so much" Not defending the guy, but at least he's a proud marlins fan- since 2012 at least. remember when the royals wanted him in blue, offered everything under the sun and he told them to pound sand, lol.

ANdy Salgado? That dude is pretty wild. He runs a fan podcast on Blogtalkradio with another dude named Dann and they do a pretty good show. Lot less analytical than anything, and more about the fan interaction, but cool dudes none the less.
April 27, 201511 yr A side note on Marlins Man that helps make a difference on his perception... I've heard him say that he did the same thing for a while pre 2012 in a regular Florida Marlins jersey but since it obviously wasn't the bright red orange no one ever noticed. More proof that he's sincere and isn't an attention whore.
April 27, 201511 yr I don't get what the issue is. He has money, and probably some business or personal interest in New York. He catches a game in New York and wears his Marlins outfit like any Marlins fan would. People....
