SongInTheAir Posted April 7, 2016 Share Posted April 7, 2016 It's probably ridiculous that I have this deflated of a view of the team after two games, but goddamn. There are two notable issues with this team, and they have both factored into us losing each of our games so far. We have solutions for our bullpen in the minors. They're not going to make the bullpen good, but bringing up Barraclough and Ellington will definitely stabilize it. I know some of you are going to cite walk‐rate for them, but they are just flat‐out more effective than what we have now. As for our bench, I am a big believer in Miguel Rojas, Mathis is one of the best defensive catchers in the league, and I do support Ichiro being on the bench as well. I know some of you don't, and I understand the reasoning, but I have my own. Chris Johnson and Derek Dietrich are a bit puzzling. Chris Johnson was one of the best hitters in the NL three years ago, and now, he seems to be completely clueless at the plate. His hitting is a fraction as selective as it was when he was good, and he no longer seems to hit with the situation in mind. Dietrich seems to be the worst player in baseball at times, but he gives us hits at opportune times, so I can't find any rationale for ditching him. That means that we are in complete gridlock, and can only hope the bench as a whole is better than we think it is. I agree with you on Claw, and while I don't think Ellington is very good, he's no worse than Breslow, Narveson, or McGowan and he has a bit of upside. I like Rojas a lot and I know Mathis serves his purpose so I have no issue with him on the bench. Chris Johnson exists to hit lefties, Derek Dietrick exists to hit righties. At least he has a better glove than Bour. Dietrich's lack of consistency is the only reason he isn't a starter (also, I guess he is terrible defensively). His bat has a ton of upside, he's actually a potentially great hitter. I think an AL team would slot him in as a DH and he would do well. On our team, he'll be the power off the bench, since everyone else on our bench has a realistic chance to end the season with 0 home runs. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Ozuna is nowhere near as selective as Dee and Yelich, so he provides pitchers with a way out of a difficult situation if Dee is aboard. I would bat Ozuna fifth, Bour sixth.
