Yeah I'm in agreement with el penguino here. 4-0, 0-4...the flaws with the team are the same ones that were talked about last season. People hype up the offense but statistically Realmuto was a bad hitting catcher (even if he was better than every one since Baker/Paulino), Bour is at the very best a top 20 hitting 1B and nothing more, Hechavarria will never learn plate discipline (although he's fine in the 8 spot), Prado is old and a bit overrated because of his past, Ozuna is overrated by the fan base these days, Stanton needs to stay healthy and has always been a super streaky hitter (when he's hot he's best in baseball, but when he's cold he'll go a full month without a home run).

I think biggest positive surprise has been Dee Gordon being the same hitter so far. I don't expect him to learn plate discipline, but if he continues to bat over .300 in his career then the Heaney trade becomes a tie rather than a complete loss with Heaney/Hernandez/Barnes/Hatcher all being super useful to the Dodgers. He also seems to be an incredible locker room guy, so definitely somebody we need to find a way to hold onto for as long as he's useful.

Agree all point. But huge difference b/t last year and this year is the pen. Dyson/Capps/Ramos was borderline elite/top 5 in baseball. Now we have absolute garbage

Miami is 3rd in NL (6th overall) with a .278 team average

In 4 games. If you score 20 in one game then get shut out in the next 4 you're still averaging 5 runs a game. Offense is inconsistent and a lot of the problems from last year such as lack of walks is still present and unimproved.

What's more troubling is why at least some of the internal BP options aren't being brought up. There has to be a young LHP we can bring up to try to use to pitch to lefties. And replace Morris with barraclough. Wittgren. Or Ellington. Those are attempts that can be made at fixing the pen without going with outside options.

Well, 4 games in you are bitching about the offense, and  4 games in they are 3rd, what the fuck do you want?

Yes. Better options do exist internally.  It's mind boggling

On a fun note Ellington and Wittgren both allowed two runs in their first appearances. Not saying they shouldn't be up but just funny timing.

Also, Wittgren has a much better picture for his milb.com page than he had the past few years.

Just thought everyone should know we are playing our 5TH GAME of the season tonight. Least amount of games played in baseball so far. Before anyone writes off the season, give it a little more time to play out.

Bullpen is awful there is no denying that. Really makes it tough with a close and late game to either hold the lead or keep it close to give our offense a chance win. With that said we have been behind in every single game with the exception of our 1 Win on Thursday, even then the Nationals tied it in the first inning and it was close up until the very end.

While we have shown the ability to come back from deficits we haven't taken the lead from the get go and finish the game up. Narveson is gone when Dunn comes back. You gotta think Barraclough / Urena will be another call up probably when McGowan tanks.

The whole Ozuna hitting 2nd is the dumbest thing and is just a matter of moving the guy down. Even if you swap him with Prado it would be a better move that way. Frustrating that Gordon gets on base, only for Ozuna to pop up or strike out then to have Yelich walk.

I thought we should have won yesterday, Harper once again hurt us. Got the RBI double in the first inning and another off Narveson, would have been an RBI again had Yelich not made such a good relay throw back in.

Joe Ross pitching or not we had chances to score before hand, Koehler deserved better run support. Point is moot now because we lost.

Side Point: Did Yelich hit only the Marlins second home run of the season or am I missing something?

So he finally got the money to repair his broken teeth even without playing in the major league.

Why can't they have more than one problem?

They can and do but that's THE problem.

Yeah, bigger problem. Nobody is denying that.

I suppose I just agree with your phrasing because it omits consideration of there being other problems, particularly offense.

Defense is the only dimension of the game that I'm satisfied with.

i find it darkly amusing that the bp is hands down the biggest problem on the team and during the offseason that's typically the easiest (not to mention cheapest) area to upgrade when you factor in offense, defense, and starting pitching as the other areas.
