4/19 Post game "The Narveson DFA Countdown Thread"

my goodness. Wasn't one of our silly announcers commenting on how the bullpen's era is like 6th in the NL or something (obviously ignoring this crucial number)

Probably referring to ERA which matters very very little when a lot of your runs are charged to starters already out of games

Yeah starters have a 5.16 ERA, pens is probably around 3.5 after tonight. But they've allowed 50% of their runners to score. You do the math and decide how great this pen is.

"Rebuilding" Braves 4-9, Fish 4-8... I know it's too soon to judge it, but we have to show some positive sign.

Pen ERA is indeed 3.46 after tonight.

I would have had more confidence in a member of this message board facing Bryce Harper than Chris Narveson throwing his 86 mph piece of shit right down the middle of the plate.

Just call up Ege.

Really need Brian Ellington to start performing but he still seems to be struggling.

And we have yet to have a starter complete 7 innings. All three times the starter reached the 7th, the game imploded.

Is it possible that Nicolino pitched out of the pen ?

Nah they want Nicolino to start. It could be Urena or Ellington coming up

And the horrendous bullpen again deflects from the fact that we also got shut out today. For now I'm going to ignore the overall record and say that we have Chen on the mound tomorrow. Hopefully we can salvage this series.

Also noteworthy is we've actually been in every single game this year. Including today because it was tied going into the 7th. Yes we're not very good but it really has been about one missed hit here and there or one putting in of narveson Jackson or Morris and we'd be ok. It's a long year and to be honest even though the braves kicked out asses. Our team still looks better than theirs.

Being better than the Braves doesn't say much...They're destined for 100 losses. If we aren't better than them at the end of the year then something went terribly terribly wrong.

"I'm not fired up about what happened, that we lost the game and everything," Conley said. "But I'm encouraged. I feel like I found a piece of gold with what I learned through today's start. Sometimes you've got to get kicked in the teeth a little bit and learn the hard way. I feel like I did that today. To the absolute best of my ability, that's not going to happen again. I'm encouraged by that."

As well as he threw, Conley recognized a major flaw -- taking the late innings for granted.

"My process was really good up until I took a breath there in the seventh," Conley said. "Admittedly, I feel like zeros were going to keep coming. That kind of just goes to show my immaturity and how short a time I've been up here, and those guys just waiting around. Those guys are on the prowl all the time. When I let up, they took advantage."

Read Conley's comments in this article humbly admitting how much he learned from the seventh inning last night. I'm liking this kid more and more.

Just threw some bad pitches that inning besides that Conley was amazing. Loving that power arm that he brings now this year. Especially the way he attacked Harper every single at bat.

As bad as Werth is this year and the steep decline he is on, he took care of that fastball when Conley missed his spot.

Mat latos, 3-0. 0.49 ERA

but seriously, what is Mattingly's obsession with using Chris Narveson? Maybe if he was actually a control pitcher I'd get it, but sucks at not walking people as well. So he gives up too many bbs, doesn't strike people out and gets hit really hard. He's a -.4 WAR pitcher in 8innings

Veteran and lefty. That's probably it. If he had clearly better options I don't know if he'd be so inclined to go with him.

He did have better options: every singly guy in the bullpen including leaving wittgren in

every other team, DFA narveson. marlins, keep him. that's the way it is. C0L.
