May 1, 201610 yr Also, comparing Dee Gordon to Ray Rice and Johnny Manziel is ridiculous. I do think ALL PEOPLE are subject to second chances unless it's murder. He should be given a second chance but always keep an eye out on him. At this moment he is a thug and the only way to change my view is to never get a suspension of this type again
May 1, 201610 yr What was so violent about Dee Gordon's actions that make him a thug? This is like not liking the actions of a drug dealer and comparing him to a murderer. Comparing Dee to Ray Rice and Johnny Manziel is apples & oranges. With that said, can someone create a Dee Gordon thug life meme? I need a new avatar.
May 1, 201610 yr I like to retract my statement on Gordon as a thug as I was sort of contradicting myself. everybody makes mistakes and do indeed deserve second chances and Erick was right that comparing to rice and manziel is different. however, he definitely deserves to be punished by the league.

May 1, 201610 yr I think I've just always wondered why so many people were so hung up on DD; especially before last season. I just don't really see anything really special about him.

Probably for the same reasons many people are still high on Ozuna who is not white. They're young players who have shown flashes. If anything, Dietrich's recent history is actually more impressive. He had an .864 .OPS against right-handed pitching last year. Also, at the moment, I think the majority of people are just saying that he's better than Miguel Rojas.

May 1, 201610 yr ozuna is also one of my favorite African American baseball players. Vince going for a culture of trolling today.
May 1, 201610 yr People naturally like an underdog story. This is the guy that was chocked by the hitting coach which made the owner start to hate him. He's been sent to AAA and made to ride the bench even though he's been a better option then most people in his place. A .780 career OPS is great from a 2nd baseman as well.

I think a lot of people like Dietrich because we had to put up with Donovan Solano getting playing time over him for years just because he hurt Loria's feelings.
May 1, 201610 yr I think I've just always wondered why so many people were so hung up on DD; especially before last season. I just don't really see anything really special about him. I've always been down on Dietrich myself and still am. I've also been down on Ozuna as well and still am. But I think it's silly to say that race factors in at all. I feel like the same people who are high on Dietrich are also high on Ozuna. The fact of the matter is that people on this board tend to overrate players who are mediocre at best unless those players demonstrate a long history of sucking (Hechavarria in his first couple of years).
May 1, 201610 yr That's a good point too. I think a lot of people like Dietrich because we had to put up with Donovan Solano getting playing time over him for years just because he hurt Loria's feelings. This point reminds me of all of the douchebags on this board who were up in arms last season when the Marlins demoted Ozuna to avoid super 2, despite the fact that he was really sucking.

To add to what other people are saying about young players with power, one of the main things was that we're talking about a time when Solano was our starting second baseman. I think it was the same thing when we traded for Kike but didn't start him. Personally I don't like him starting anywhere besides 1B, unless there's just nothing else to even put there (like in 2013-2014, and now)
May 2, 201610 yr ozuna is also one of my favorite African American baseball players. Lmao he isn't African American bro

May 2, 201610 yr How the Marlins handle Dee Gordon's absence in the long-term will be a point of fascination in the East. Derek Dietrich comes equipped with defensive questions, but he's an interesting bat. In talking with Marlins people this spring, it was clear there was an organizational understanding that depth is not a strong suit at this juncture, which means a sustained injury to, most notably, Giancarlo Stanton would ruin them. But because of Dietrich, second base might have been one of the few spots the Fish could absorb this sort of blow. http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/175700570/
May 2, 201610 yr I feel as if Dietrich is a really solid bat off the bench, that can be serviceable in a starting role for a limited time. Obviously you have to move him around because of defensive limitations, but offensively, I think he can hold his own in a starting 9. Don't beat me up here, but he reminds me of a less refined Daniel Murphy. Even through his 20's, Murph never had a +.809 ops and was regarded as a defensive liability. Dietrich is a valuable piece, although not as valuable as Murphy, he can hold his own for 162 games. The same cannot be said for Rojas, Solano, and others we have rolled out there.
