McGowan should be better than he's been. Not that he's great or anything but that fastball velo with that slider he just threw can be effective. Stuff is there, it seems. 

 

The big hit came from Joyce. Not surprising because McGowan doesn't really have an out pitch for lefties so that's an issue with him.

i was overreacting. If you take away the inherited runners it's a nice inning

Howard is an outlier. He hasn't hit his career average SLG% (.514) since 2010.  That's how good he was and also how bad he's been
