So this potentially helps the MLB team more than the minors: injured Dickerson and his salary are gone, at least we got something for Cimber who was on his way out anyways, Jesus Sanchez stays in the lineup, Isan becomes irrelevant, and Panik improves the bench in the short term if not being flipped for an asset later on...

This goes along with the "this isn't a sell move" spin that they seem to wanna give today.

That’s what it is and like you said, moves should have been made a month ago. It’s way overdue with Isan, Dickerson and holding Sanchez down as long as they did. 

So the Marlins did send money? How much is still left on Dickerson's deal? 

 

Marlins and clearing money, name a longer lasting relationship

A few things:

 

-Adam Cimber was not "on his way out" or on "an expiring contract" as I've seen here and on Twitter. He will have his first year of arbitration in 2022 and is not a free agent until 2025.

-This is not a "sellers" deal, as Corey Dickerson is not a good baseball player and isn't even going to be able to play until maybe after the trade deadline anyway. Think of the deal as Cimber for Panik. The Marlins gave up a decent middle reliever that their manager did not know how to utilize and got back a league average backup infielder. Panik takes at bats that would have gone to Isan Diaz or pinch hit appearances that would have gone to Sandy Leon or John Curtiss.

-This is not a "good trade" nor a "bad trade" for the Marlins. It's just a trade. It does absolutely nothing to move the needle on our under 1% chance to make the playoffs.

-Andrew McInvale will probably never pitch in a major league game.

As I said earlier, conflicting reports on the financials but Passan has a pretty good reputation with his info so I'm trusting his reports. Seeing if he puts out an update. Either way, they cleared salary off the books with the deal when they did not have to, just a matter of how much they cleared. Doesn't change the overall problem.

With all this, it leans towards a buyers move for the Marlins. It helps the bench and starting lineup and does little to nothing for the minor league system.

It is something, but barely. They didn't give up much, so it's not much of a buyers move either. It's just, kind of...a trade. That's it. Just a trade. Like when the Marlins acquired Cimber in the first place.

I agree with this... and I know you're up in arms at the moment and there's no reason to believe otherwise but could they clear salary and still be trying to improve the MLB team?

Again, at the moment, this move improves the Marlins and does little to nothing for the minor league system ----> on June 29, 2021 this is a buyers move.

What they do next will cement it or not.
