This is a common issue with 80s and 90s athletes. It's crazy.

That explains their bodies but facial features and hair still looked like old dudes more often than not. 

In this picture Brett is 27 and Schmidt is 31.

I don't think drugs and alcohol are responsible for them looking much older than that. I'm now 39 and still don't look like that.

Bad nutrition

Drugs both legal and illegal

Hard living as a ball player

not really giving a fuck about 5 years down the road

And yes, probably fucking some real ugly women  too.

Pretty fucking easy to look 10-20 years older even today if you live life hard enough in your 20s-30s.

Man ... I remember he had probably the best start of his career, one where he finally kept his emotions in check - generally if he felt he got a bad call, you'd know it, but that game - bad call, OK, fine, is what it is, let me throw the next pitch. And he did great!

 

And then he went out and got a DUI that same night. 🙄
