This is the most blatant attempt at a sponsored post I've seen yet.

Can you blame me for wanting to be sponsored by money?

All for it. Would have preferred Correa but I feel he’s gonna do great at Fenway peppering doubles off the monster. Glad they took advantage of a contingency plan for Bogey’s inevitable opt out after this season.

Story's gonna love the AL East.

Neither. he got a job on the pier shucking oysters so he’ll be renting a place with plans of buying a house in the future when he gets settled in.

Lifetime .241/.310/.442 slash line away from Coors.

Buyer beware.

Hangover Effect. He'll be fine.

Notice Arenado, Walker, etc were all fine away from Coors once they were on other teams?

Arenado's numbers dropped tremendously in STL. He went from OPSing around .950 in Colorado to posting an .807 OPS in STL. He's still good obviously, but that is a huge dip in production.

Same goes for Vinny Castilla, Dante Bichette, Jeff Cirillo, etc.

The Coors splits are a thing. Not for every single Rockies player in history, but they are a thing. We'll see how Story does (luckily he is in a very hitter friendly park).

Matt Holliday also as an example. Fine after leaving. Heh.

Arenado still hit 34 homers. His OPS+ was the same as his career average. His career OPS in Colorado was .890 so the .807 drop isn't as bad as one might think. Now another year in St. Louis, maybe he has a better second full year like Goldschmidt did.

Arizona has a slight Coors Effect too, actually, one reason Chase Field is such a good hitter's park.

DJ LeMahieu, also, went from Coors to the AL East and absolutely went off. Story doing the same in terms of location. He'll be fine. 🙂

Arenado's prime in Colorado (between 2015 and 2020) consisted of OPSes of .932, .959, .935, .962 and then .738 during the COVID-shortened 2020 season. He was a .950 OPS guy for four years in a row. Dropping to .807 is no small drop.

Like I said: plenty of other guys (Castilla, Bichette, Cirillo, etc.) fed off Coors and sucked elsewhere. I'm not saying Story will definitely follow that path, but it is absolutely something to keep in mind.

As for Holliday? He was always good away from Coors, so not the best example.

The other guys listed were all 90s/early 00s pre-humidor Coors, though. And in Bichette's defense, when he left Colorado, he was near the end of his career. Vinny Castilla is the best example listed and I have no argument against his inclusion. Heh.

I'm not discounting the effect Coors has on offense overall, simply saying it's not as drastic as it used to be, and that the Hangover Effect of playing games elsewhere immediately after playing in Colorado has to be recognized. I don't mean season to season, either, I'm talking series to series.

To the Arenado point - yes, going from those four years of .947 to the one of .807 is more drastic, I'll concede that. I still think his second full year in St. Louis will be better, similar to Goldschmidt.

[FWIW - Holliday had a 1.095 OPS 2006-2008 at home, 0.857 on the road, so not exactly a "bad" example either]

His OPS+, which is park adjusted, was 121 last year. That is the exact same as it was in his career as a Rockie.

No, he's going to tell a story.  It's right in the title.....Story goes to Boston.

I do think it's worth noting that he had a .848 career OPS at Busch prior to the trade. Last year it was just .722.

That was after 24 games prior to last year, so it was not because of a single game where he hit a couple of homers or something.

Wtf? So if he opts out the Red Sox can retain him which means he loses his opt out?

I'm guessing those terms they can keep him at include increased pay. Only way I can understand his agent taking that kind of thing.

Yeah that's the only thing that makes sense here.

He opts out and the contract extends for more, maybe. Weird for sure.
