Are we talking philosophy or baseball? You won’t find many in the mlb that don’t make baseball a big part of their life. It is actually what separates the merely talented from those who make it. As a fan I want those types in our organization. My assertion is that isan failed to commit enough. I use Covid as an example. I could be wrong but I am not the only one who questioned his effort.

Making baseball a big part of your life is fine. Making it "your life" is not. It's still their every day job. People forget that.  Putting that before all else is not what makes you an all-star player. There are loads of players who have families out there and I will guarantee you that the bulk of them would step away if it came down to choosing their family first over their job. Dedication to the craft is fine, great, and appreciated but people expecting you to put your job over everything else generally make shitty bosses and poor companies to work for.

I can see you have issues with this theme😂 sorry for you problems at work. But your trying to twist my argument to beat your hobby horse (I.e your argument relies on semantics) many won’t even think of it as “a job”. It is a passion and a way of life. Most successful people find their hobby and livelihood in sync in such a way.

but you can claim a semantical victory in my admission that,yes, it is not literally their whole life. Nothing is the whole except the whole. The presocratics had an interesting debate about this when they spoke about the “one and the many”
