Soto turns down 440 million, Nats could trade him

Featured Replies

efff off with any 15 year deal. i don't care how good a player is.  no way.  i hate 10 year deals as it is but for certain players, maybe.  Soto would be one of those fwiw but NO way on a 15 year deal.  insanity.

also, this means he'll either end up playing for the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, or.....Mutts considering almost half a billion isn't "enough" unless he just really wants to play in a higher profile city (see above list again).

I really think it just comes down to the AAV in the end. If they offered him like 8/350 he'd probably take that, plus he'd get a chance at another huge contract at 31.

I'd empty the farm for him

Would need a handshake deal he'd be willing to sign long-term with is though beforehand. But yep, he's a generational talent and young so take what you want from the farm.

Yes. The farm + the 8/350 deal.

Yeah I can't imagine any team is going to be willing to empty the farm without negotiating a long term deal as part of it.

Biggest downside is negotiating with Boras among all else. He loves him that free agency money.

How much longer is he under control for before FA?

Depending on how long that is, I’d be hesitant to trade for him, as you know we’re not paying that mega contract.

He is a free agent after the 2024 season so a team trading for him today gets 2.5 years roughly.

So you’d be getting him for 2 seasons?

eh at this point do it.  Who cares lol.

Plus this current one if your team is in striking distance

There doesn’t seem to be a plan aside from hoarding prospects anyway lol

Plus even if you can't sign him long term, it isn't like he would have zero value to spin and trade to someone else before he hits free agency. Obviously less value than he has today, but there'd still be interest in that off-season before the 2024 season.

No team trading for Juan Soto is trading for him to then flip him.

Well no that wouldn't be the intent obviously but if it comes down to that last offseason and he hasn't signed an extension, then all bets are off.

That's of course assuming any team makes a deal for him now without an extension being worked out as part of it.

Pretty sure there would be wink wink back channel negotiations going on before a deal is done at a minimum.

No team is acquiring him without having an idea of the basic parameters of a contract that it would take.

8/350
