Soto turns down 440 million, Nats could trade him

Featured Replies

From Mlbtr:

Soto is reportedly looking for a deal that is at least a decade long, gives him the most guaranteed money in baseball history, and gives him an AAV at least close to the highest average annual values.

Half of a franchise too

he was quoted as saying he didn’t want to be too greedy.

So 10/440 should do it.

Ng: "But we already have Avisail in right, where would Soto play?"

that probably also applies to Don

Now the rumor is that the Nats want to package Corbin and his contract with Soto.

that's cool, i'd package Avisail in ours.

Too soon. 😢

Are we hoping the Nationals end up with a Cabrera like haul. I am, with the benefit of foresight.

hope they find a badenhop, Rabelais, maybin and miller!

I'd gladly take a Miller on this team - problem is the Marlins would still insist he needs to be a starter.

AKA Holloway!

You'd think that most teams would try a guy in the pen if he stinks as a starter to see if letting them to max effort makes a difference. Apparently the Marlins never got that memo and insist on guys being defined only as one or the other no matter what. I think Max will end up being a "bust" with us as well but will get moved as a semi throw-in in a trade at some point and will slay it as a closer.

Absolutely should.

No arguments. Even if it's a prospect "overpay" you 1000% make this trade because guys like Soto don't come available very often and odds are fantastic you will get the better end of the deal.

But yeah, I expect Ng to be all...ehhh..we like what Max Meyer did in his first start and think Bleday will be a superstar in another four years. Eury is the best pitcher in all of baseball so we won't even do a 1 for 1 swap there.

If we take Corbin's contract too (unlikely), might be able to get away with a much lesser deal. Just IL Corbin for the remainder of the year. Lol

Yeah God forbid Sherman spend more to keep better prospects from going back. Either way, trade them what they want for Soto.

Except ...

... nah just do it.

There aren't many guys who would increase attendance but I do believe Soto would do that. He would create buzz, he would show this team wants to win, and the team would improve. All those things together would boost the attendance a bit. Not enough to offset his price, but that shouldn't be the main focus. If Sherman ever wants this team to succeed again, he needs to make a big splash.

It won't happen though.

Yep. You really would love to see what some of the uber cheapskate owners would actually do if they suddenly did start packing the house every night. What would their excuse be then? Would they actually spend?

But yeah, ain't nobody coming to see this shit show of an offense. So he'll happily keep up with his hackneyed excuses as to why we can't have nice things.
