December 21, 20223 yr Author Quote Cohen, who recently lamented falling short on Correa, worked out the deal from Hawaii, where he was, with Correa’s agent Scott Boras over what was said to be a four or five hour period following what Boras termed a “difference of opinion” over Correa’s Giants medical.
December 21, 20223 yr What the actual fuck lol. Gotta love that the Mets luxury tax penalty is now higher than 1/3 of MLB teams entire payrolls.

December 21, 20223 yr Probably angry Giants front office too. I can't imagine they expected to lose out on him if a press conference was already coming. I bet they'll say they weren't given a fair chance to renegotiate.

December 21, 20223 yr Wait maybe renegotiate was the wrong word. I meant to discuss whatever the medical concern was. Giants might have said he call me back about something on the physical and five hours later Correa is a Met!

December 21, 20223 yr Author Quote “While we are prohibited from disclosing confidential medical information, as Scott Boras said publicly, there was a difference of opinion about the results of Carlos' physical examination. We wish Carlos the best” - Farhan Zaidi, President of Operations of the Giants
December 21, 20223 yr Boras' side: Quote “We reached an agreement. We had a letter of agreement. We gave them a time frame to execute it,” Boras said. “They advised us they still had questions. They still wanted to talk to other people, other doctors, go through it. I said, ‘Look, I’ve given you a reasonable time. We need to move forward on this. Give me a time frame. If you’re not going to execute, I need to go talk with other teams.” It still isn’t publicly known what issue the Giants found during Correa’s physical, but Boras frames it as an old injury that precedes Correa’s time in the majors. “You’re talking about a player who has played eight major-league seasons,” Boras said. “There are things in his medical record that happened decades ago. These are all speculative dynamics. Every team has a right to go through things and evaluate things. The key thing is, we gave them (the Giants) medical reports at the time. They still wanted to sign the player and negotiate with the player.” https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/12/scott-boras-comments-on-carlos-correa-situation.html Edited December 21, 20223 yr by rmc523
December 21, 20223 yr That sounds like the Giants started getting cold feet. The fans are gonna rip them. Though I'm curious if Giants fans will boo Correa whenever he plays in SF.
December 21, 20223 yr MLB Network with an interesting thought... did Correa not really love the idea of playing in SF and took this opportunity to bail on the Giants? They were hours away from his press conference in SF. If he really wanted to be there, why not figure this thing out in a day or two and make it work? But to kinda wake up and eat breakfast thinking about being a Giant and suddenly by lunch you're agreeing to jump to the Mets? Sounds like a bride running away from the altar to me!

Mets just get him closer to Miami, his true love.

Yeah, the whole thing sounds weird. Why the rush to make another deal if it's supposedly a minor thing from pre-MLB days? It's not like the Mets coffers are going to run dry if the deal falls through in another couple of days.

Joel Sherman implies that Correa wanted to play for the Yankees because he wants to be a big star on a big stage team but didn't get offers from them and so he may have settled for the Giants but when this happened he jumped at the Mets because they give him a chance at the big stage atmosphere especially with the Mets acting like the Yankees these days. It's speculation but I think it makes a lot of sense.

And he's been fine in terms of ankle stuffs since then? I think they just backed out themselves and this was their ready-made excuse.
