January 24, 20233 yr Well, 1) the MLB job is probably more secure - they're not firing you after a couple bad seasons, and 2) Maybe he dealt with Loria enough and he's heard of the relationship with Crane and Click and doesn't want to deal with that?

January 27, 20233 yr Serious question, could money be a thing here in the sense that he turned down a pay cut from the Marlins so maybe he's well paid now with MLB and isn't certain the Astros GM job would pay as well? Not trying to make him sound greedy but it's something to consider. Pay cuts are no fun especially if you already have a secure and well paying job.
January 27, 20233 yr It could be that after years and years of working in a team front office, he is over it and doesn’t want to go back. I can understand the feeling, there have been some jobs I worked and then left and afterwards thought to myself, maybe I could do that again, but then I applied for it and I remembered all the reasons that job sucked and why I didn’t want to work there anymore in the first place. So I ended up taking myself out of the running. 😂 Probably the MLB executive job is better for him. Less stress and responsibilities and being blamed for teams performance. Hill ain’t no spring chicken, so probably he wants to have his remaining working years be more chill after years of working as a GM and in front office. Probably went to interview for Astros job and thought like “do I really want to deal with all this day to day grind in a front office again? Nope.” 😂 Or, conversely, maybe he’ll holding out for an even bigger market opening like a Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers or Cubs GM job. Edited January 27, 20233 yr by SirFishFan
January 27, 20233 yr Could also be maybe he wants more control and Houston seems so analytically driven (not a bad thing) that they probably make decisions on a group basis.

Plus...the weather absolutely SUCKS and they can't even keep the power on.

Plus (and hope this isn’t politics) with all the hoards of people moving to Texas from California and other states seems to be driving up the prices and changing personality and culture quite a lot. Don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. But I think for a lot of years most Texas had pretty good cost of living compared to a lot of other states. Probably that is changing everyday. Getting more and more expensive by the day. That seemed to be one of the benefits of living there. 😂 Edited January 27, 20233 yr by SirFishFan
