  1. Dont know why but Turner reminds me of Roy Halladay. Looks and build wise. Please god and thank you. Well I don't see the resemblance but pitching wise he doesn't throw as hard as Roy Holliday. If I were to compare him to anybody I would say Greg Madsux or Kevin Brown because he has a great two seemer fasty that is devastating when he has his good command. Turner can be a monster if he finds that command. I'm looking forward to this game big time and I will be there for sure.
  2. I can't wait to see Solano make so many people eat their own words for dinner. Bon apetit everybody hope your hungry. The guy almost hit .300 last year and was heating when he went on the dl. What do you guys want from a second basemen?? Sigh. I want a lot more than Solano's terrible offense and defense at 2b. So far this year, he's a negative WAR player. His .657 OPS is more in line (if not still too high) with what Solano will do the rest of the year and that's terrible especially considering he's a minus defender. In the minors he never hit .700 OPS or higher once and is extremely unlikely to ever reproduce his line from last year considering he had that unsustainable .357 BABIP. It's not like he has much speed either so he doesn't help their either. The guy stinks and shouldn't be in a mlb starting lineup. I respect your opinion pollyvonwog but I use my eyes to judge players because ops is unreliable sometimes. Sure it can give you an IDEA of a players ability but it doesn't tell the whole story. If we judge Luis Castillo y his ops nobody here would want him on this team ever and he is probably the player I would compare Solano too the most except for Castillo had better speed out of the box and probably a stronger arm. I use my eyes and old fashioned stats (they worked fine for over 100 years didn't they) and I have been right more often then not. Not always right but nobody is 100% of the time. Give Solano a chance. He defensively passes my eye test and offensively even more. Just take a look and you might see something you missed while looking up his ops.
  3. I'm glad to see that my topic has started so much discussion (isn't that the poi t of a forum on the inernet???) but I'm getting pretty sick of being called a troll by you penguino. I know you are always sarcastic and pessemistic towards other members but just because you don't agree with someones opinions doesn't mean you need to call them a troll or a idiot or whatever. It looks like unless a poster wants to bash the team and the Front office around here there are some members who just dismiss them as crazy or stupid or trolling. Believe it or not it IS possible for someone to have a different point of views than you and not be joking or stupid. There is even a possibility that (gasp!!!) you are wrong. Think about it before you start jumping all over people for there opinions. I'm not a dummy or a child I'm a man and you need to show me respect.
  4. I can't wait to see Solano make so many people eat their own words for dinner. Bon apetit everybody hope your hungry. The guy almost hit .300 last year and was heating when he went on the dl. What do you guys want from a second basemen??
  5. Another huge piece from the Detroit trade. He will be throwing to Brantly I hope. Seeing two players in the mlb from that trade looks pretty good to me. Hopefully he lives up to the ace potential he has always been labeled with. Guy could be a monster in the rotation if he puts it all together. With him and Fernandez and Evoldi in the rotation we will be looking at another potential BIG 3 in Miami if you know what I mean.
  6. It's true that the record is bad right now but the 1962 Mets had no star power on it and the 2013 Marlins have to many monsters coming up to lose 120 games. This team ha the ability to turn it around soon unlike the 62 mets who struggled for the whole season.
  7. Just as an answer to the topic; because this team is playing at an all-time bad level. The 1962 Mets, widely considered possibly the worst team of the modern era, were 16-38 through 54 games. We're 13-41. We're on pace to go 39-123, which would be the most losses in modern history and the second worst W-L%. And while our pitching is only bad and not super awful, we hit like it's 1964. I think being historically bad is worth being down on.
  8. What a tangled up web that will be weaved when the first practice is to deceived..... I never said that Miguel Cabrera was a incomplete hitter. I said he was an incomplete PLAYER. He is a statue on the field with no range or instincts and a below average arm. Carlos Lee is a better defender than he is for crying out loud. In fact one can make the comparison that in his prime Carlos Lee was a VERY similar player to Cabrera before he ate his way to where he is now. Cabrera was a very good hitter in FLA but didn't have the monster power he has developed. Now he is one of the best in the game. But still he will decline quickly because he is in terrible condition and he obviously doesn't take care of his health off the field. But again why are we talking about him when it has been 5 years since he has even played here?? If he does go to the hall of fame at least we will have a player with our uniform in there finally. So you should all hope that he doesn't decline so at least we can see that. If we still had Cabrera we wouldn't have Stanton. Anyone who would rather have Cabrera than Stanton might need to go to the mental health hospital in New York called "BELL VIEW" lol.
  9. I don't know how this got turned in to a Miguel Cabrera thread. He doesn't even play here anymore and I for one am glad. He is a good hitter but we can't afford one salary on this team that is the size of his salary it would cripple us for years. Watch what happens to the Tigers because in a couple years when he declines and they still have to pay him they will be pereniel celler dwellers thanks to his contract and untradability. He can't play any positions in the field so he has to stay in the American League also lets not forget that. Anyway enough about Cabrera we all have to move on. Back o topic this team has very good players coming in and there is no way that a team with this much amazing talentt ends up being a historicaly bad record at the end of the year. There is no way. I think we have a chance to finish 3rd in the division and there is a chance that when stanton and solano comes back and yelich comes up and ozuna keeps hitting like a monster and Cogz keeps on his great pace we can make a run towards 500 in the second half. It wouldn't be that crazy. I think it would be MORE CRAZY if this team with all this talent loses 100 games. THAT is what would be crazy. The pitching has been tremendous this year. We need to start scoring runs for the starters and that is going to happen when we finally get everyone in there playing their positions. With a lineup like this how can we say that the team will lose 100 games? LF OZUNA (monster in training) CF YELICH (superstar talent) RF STANTON (monster when healthy) 3B COGHLIN (got to keep his bat in the lineup and polanco has to go) SS HECHAVERRIA (Ozzy smith 2.0) 2B SOLANO (steady bat and gold glove potential defense) 1B MORRISSON (young and ready to prove himself) C BRANTLY (could be another Paul LaDuca if defense improves) P- we have Nolasco (well above average), Evoldi (potential ace or no 2), Slowey (breakout year), Alverez (brings the heat) and Koehler or Wade LaBlanc who are both great for 5th starters. Add in that we have a very solid bullpen with one of the best closers in the MLB (cishek hasn't had enough chances yet this year) and I just do not see any way that this team loses 100 games. That is a GOOD lineup that is potentially GREAT when we get the injured players back and Yelich hits the scene. And the pitching has already been tremendous. We have been injured and unlucky. It is still early and we can dig out of this hole. It really isn't that bad. Oh My God what
  10. Look.... it's not about this year (although i do expect this team to surprise the bejeezus out of all the "experts" in the second half)... It is about next year and beyond. And we have a heck of a group of guys who can flat out play. Defensively we are going to be so solid in the outfield with monster talent and on the infield we have the best defensive shortstop in the game, a rock solid second baseman and a catcher being mentored by a gold glove caliber veteran named Mathis. The only spots that are below average right now are the corners of first and third and they will be getting better hopefully when they move Cogz to 3b and Lomo gets settled in and adjusts to the infield. I expect to be in the top 5 in team defense next year. We will probably have the best defensive outfield in baseball (DEFINITELY in the NL). The infield might not be that solid except up the middle with Hecheverria and Solano, but really they can sign a good 3b and Lomo will improve. I dare anybody to take an extra base on Stanton, Ozuna or yelich. This is the best core we have had in place since the 2003 team. Actually there can be alot of coparisons made to the 2003 team but maybe in another thread because that would be interesting.
  11. Also dietrich just hasn't shown me that he can be an everyday starter in the MLB but he could be a good bat off the bench since he's a lefty and has a little poop. I wish his poop was bigger. you are gross.
  12. I think I'm done here. Dietrich is adjusting, just like all rookies do. I have a lot more faith in him being productive than Solano as an every-day starter, and that's more from Minor League track record as well as what I've seen from Derek thus far. But, refer to first line of this post. I respect your opinion bro. I disagree and think that Solano is a far superior defender and hitter than Dietrich, but I espect your opinion and hey it's up to Mike Redmond not us and I'm sure he knows more then we do and will play the best guy to give the team the chance to win. I do agree that Ditrich has more pop like I said before so having his bat out there everyday isnt a bad thing either maybe.
  13. Also dietrich just hasn't shown me that he can be an everyday starter in the MLB but he could be a good bat off the bench since he's a lefty and has a little POP.
  14. Wow you guys are like a wolfpack why are you attacking me????? I'm just a lamb for some of you now I see why piazza31 doesn't post or brocobob because you all jump down there throat sometimes. If you do not like the lineup idea i posted tell me why don't just dismiss what I say because Im a new memebr. I have been reading the forum for YEARS and just didn't register for reasons I told you all before but this is the only place I can talk about the marlins because NOBODY ever talks about them not the media or anything!!!! its like they don't exist down here except to us. So come on we are all on the same side and i know alot about the game so i can probably even teach some of you about it and i can learn from some of you maybe also. dude you are totally right i left out fernandez and put alverez instead lol. So yeah bender i see why YOU thought i was crazy. I got the names mixed up sorry. but don't you think that can be a very good rotation bro?
  15. LOL that was pretty funny. I like a good laugh thanks OP
  16. When Solano comes back from the DL we should try and see how Coghlan performs at third base. If we can get Juan Fransisco for nothing I don't mind having some depth in the minors since we don't have that many 3rd base options. I know that Coghlan has played 2nd base before (a harder position) and is athletic enough to play the outfield pretty good or at least average so I don't see why he can't make a transition to third base. We need to keep his bat in the lineup. Now that he is healthy and finally getting an oprotunity he is tearing the cover off the ball like he did as a rookie. It's good to see I know he has alot of faith and it looks like it is paying off. I like to see good people succeed and prove the haters wrong. Fransisco would be good for depth though so yeah if we can get hoim for nothing I'm good with it just not at the expense of playing time for Coghlan or Solano who are better players (proven). Fransisco is terrible defensively.

  18. Cabrera was an incomplete player with a bad attitude. The Marlins were able to get great value for him and whether the players worked out for us or not is completely irelevent because being a good gm is about getting the best value back in a trade and not looking at all the trades in hindsite and at the time Maybin and Miller were considered a bounty for Cabrera who had worn out his welcome with us. Hanley was overpaid and had a major attitude problem and Beinfest got us a potential number one starter in Evoldi and Hanley has played badly with the Dodgers since they got him and is injured this year surprise surprise. Some of you are so down on Solano for some reason but he had a great year at the plate last year and plays a very solid 2nd base. His average was on the rise when he got injured and this team really misses his defense so I for one can't wait to see him back in the lineup. Mathis was brought here to teach Brantly how to catch so if he hits at all he is a bonus because he brings gold glove defense and gives Brantly a mentor. We can argue all day about the Cantera trade but like I said there is nobody who knew he would be a triple crown threat and his attitude and defense with us made him such a bad fit that he had to go. We got back a bonanza in the trade but sometimes players don't work out. Try and focus on all the players that DID work out and you will all be in a better mood believe me. And more players have worked out than haven't worked out for this team. The glass is half FULL. We will still finish with a better record then last year's joke of a team. Oh and how is Toronto doing this year? Hmmmmm... ...
  19. Okay I was debating whether or not to even register because I have seen how some of you like to attack other members on this forum especially new members. That is why it is always the same 5 people replying and commenting on all the topics. If you disagree with me fine but try and have a discussion instead of just calling me a troll or an idiot or whatever. Nobody here knew that Cabrera was going to become the player he is now. Cameron Maybin was a great prospect and Andrew Miller was as close to a sure thing can't miss as it gets at the time. Every baseball person in the business thought we won that trade by a landslide. The players didn't work out for us and Cabrera is really good. Cabrera will begin to decline soon and that contact will handicap the tigers for years so I hope it was worth it for them. The jury is still out on the Anibal Sanchez trade and the Blue Jays trade. Name one bad trade the team has made since the Cabrera trade. I'm serious, that I would like to know. Because the others we can't judge yet. It is one bad trade. Name me 10 general managers that are better than Beinfest. I know Michael Hill is supposed to be the GM but everybody knows he is not making any decisions. This is Beinfest's team. I am just a realistic fan and I believe in this team. I see a very bright future. Some of you are just mean and like to complain and attack other people who don't share your opinion. GO FISH!!! Call me a troll all you want. No wonder Piazza doesn't post no more. You guys are mean and just hang out in a pack like wolves on the hunt for meat.
  20. I meant that Brantly will be a top 5 catcher offensively in the NL not Rabelo.
  21. Some of you really need to stop with the blind hate of Loria and Sampson and Beinfest. You need to trust them to know what is best for the team they are professionals and it will just take a little time. Have faith and enjoy watching this team developed. Look at Toronto blue jays season this year. Is anyone missing those "awesome" players? Nobody could have predicted that Miguel Cabrera would become as great as he is and we all forget so quick how bad his defense and attitude were when he was here. I'm glad he has figured it out but he just was not going to work out here. Same as Hanley Ramerez. The players we got back didn't work out but that happens sometimes to everybody. Nobody gives them credit for finding Solano and Ruggiano or Mike Dunn. And Rabelo will be a top 5 offensive catcher in the NL within 3 years. It takes a while to build a winner and patients is what we all need. They will get it done.
  22. Beinfest is easily one of the best in the business. He has a proven track record that is way more positive than negative.
  23. beinfest has brought alot of great talent to this team since he has been here. i dont know why people forget so much about all of the great players we have had the chance to watch thanks to him and the rest of the front office.
  24. I have been reading on the site for a while and i have never seen so much negativity as i see recently these days. I know that our record is not very good right now but there is alot to look forward to on this team and i don't know how there is so much negativity in a place where we have all been here before in the same situation. remember how in 2002 we were bad? what happened in 2003? remember when we had the team in 2005 that was underperformed and beinfest cleaned the roster up? what happened in 2006? i know it has been tough for the marlins and for us fans but i have confidence in this front office that has rebuilt this team so many times with good trades and stealing unknown players from other systems and watching them explode in to stars before our eyes. im so passionate about this team and i know alot about the game and i know that this team will contend sooner than alot of you think. it seems like its the popular thing to hate the marlins these days around town but as the real fans maybe we should take a step back and we can see that things are not bad at all. we do have the worst record in mlb right now but we also have so many injuries that have hurt the offense and our pitching. the young guys are playing great and the veterans are going to start to hit like they always have soon. we are missing our two best hitters with Solano and Stanton and our second and third best pitchers with Eovaldi and Alverez. id there a team in the mlb that can have that happen to them and not be with the record we have? i think if the team hangs in there until the all stars break and stanton and solano and eovaldi and alverez come back we can make a run towards .500 and things will look great going in to next year when we have christian yelich added to the team and also logan morrison. some of you have forgotten a little bit about what beinfest has done for this team in the past. i trust him and maybe some of you disagree and like to look at sabermetrics more but i for one trust the eyes alot more when i evaluate a player and im glad that this front office does the same mostly because it has brought some great and exciting players to this team. we always rebuild and it will be no different this time. GO FISH!!!!!!
