  1. My guess is that he has had it basically all year or he had a separate issue and started compensating which ultimately caused the sprain. It was blatantly obvious that something wasn't right with him right from the start of the season.
  2. And this is just a sprain, so there's certainly hope.
  3. Can't argue there. It was obviously a financial decision (surprise, surprise) by the team. But to be fair, no one else claimed him.
  4. Horrible ground ball rate and his strikeouts have fallen off a cliff. He really hasn't been great. Definitely better than Cueto, though (not that that's saying much).
  5. I think they've already done that by going 8-2 over their last 10 (and against some good teams, too). The confidence is back. It's just a matter of whether or not they have enough juice to finish this thing off, especially with both Sandy and Soler out.
  6. To be fair, Clevinger hasn't really been great the last couple of years. He stunk in San Diego last season, and his peripherals haven't been great at all in 2023 (29.8% GB, 4.21 FIP, 5.27 xFIP, 7.8 K/9, 2.47 K/BB). He has had some injuries (missed all of 2021 and has had two TJ surgeries) and it has definitely sapped him (his strikeouts have plummeted). It would have definitely been nice to have him for the rest of this season for sure, but I'm not so sure I would have wanted to commit $12 million to him in 2024, especially when starting pitching is far from the team's biggest need. We know Bruce probably isn't going to spend that much, so whatever he does spend needs to be allocated to the biggest holes.
  7. Yeah. I think they have to take three out of four from the Brewers considering we have the Braves right after that. A split probably won't cut it, and losing the series may end up being a death blow. So far, they've been doing what they have to do by beating both the Dodgers and the Phillies. Yeah a sweep of Philly would have been nice, but can't really complain too much about taking two of three. They need to win five of the seven games against the Brewers and hopefully come up with sweeps in two out of the three series against the Mets and Pirates. That should leave them room if they lose the series against Atlanta. I think going 14-5 (maybe 13-6) over these last 19 games all but makes them a lock, and based on the way they have been playing lately, I think it's doable. Anything less than 13 wins and it probably gets dicey.
  8. Yeah for sure. The team isn't built very well. I understand she went out and added guys like Bell and Burger at the deadline, but had she focused more on filling holes in the lineup during the offseason, the need for Bell and Burger wouldn't have been as pressing. Of course, I do think Bruce has handicapped Kim a heck of a lot. It's pretty clear she's on a tight budget. But at the same time, some of her moves (or lack thereof) demonstrate that she doesn't have a very firm grasp on roster construction. And that's not even including her refusal to call guys up from the minors when it's clear the lineup could use a boost.
  9. Basically the only tiebreaker we would probably lose is against the Giants. Pretty cool to know that all the Marlins don't even have to have a better record than most of these WC contending teams; just tie with them and they're in.
  10. She is decent at trades. Trading Marte for Luzardo was brilliant. The Tanner Scott trade was great, and the Bell and Burger acquisitions were good. But that's pretty much where it starts and ends. While she is decent at seeing value, she is not very good at properly constructing a roster.
  11. They kind of have to win three out of four here.
  12. The only other team that comes close is 2006.
  13. The Marlins do seem to like to live on the edge.
  14. This team has so much heart.
  15. The Muts are finally getting their chance of payback from 2007 and 2008 😂
  16. Don't look now, but the Marlins are now only two games behind the Cubs for the second WC spot. Sucks that the Cubs' losses come at the expense of the D'Backs getting wins, but it is what it is. Marlins own the tiebreakers over both the Cubs and D'Backs, too.
  17. I'm more worried about the Mets and Pirates than the other teams. I'm actually fairly confident that the Marlins will take care of business against the Phillies and the Brewers (God help us against the Braves, but if we can at least get a game in that series I think we will be alright depending on how many we win against PHI and MIL). It would just be so Marlins to beat all three of the Phils, Brewers and Braves and then go 2-4 against the Mets and Pirates.
  18. For those people who felt we would be in the same position with Mattingly as we are with Skip: there is zero chance this team would have shown this type of resiliency under Mattingly. They would have completely folded and mailed it in a month ago. These guys are letting their cajones hang.
  19. They took two of three from the Dodgers which was huge. Now go and take three of four from Philly. They can do this.
  20. I liked Rice Krispies Treats cereal (which they discontinued for some reason). Rice Krispies on their own were just so bland.
  21. I think this is just because cereal isn't very good. Lol. It's funny: I would much rather have a bowl of oatmeal than a bowl of cereal (even though oatmeal technically is cereal).
  22. Imagine willingly eating McDonald's.
