Every time I turned around it seemed like Luis was on base--gotta give it to him this week.

I was wondering why the hell Messenger had been closing games for the 'Topes lately.

We have a more talented and balanced team than we did in '03. Our lineup on paper looks incredible. Our top 3 starters are among the best, and the projected "weak link" in the rotation has been pitching extremely well to this point. It's all coming down to one word: clutch. We have the talent to win this division, hell to win the whole thing, but the one thing that's been lacking has been coming through in pressure situations, whether on offense, pitching, or defense. But I don't think that'll last forever. Keep the faith.

As much as you don't want to over-tinker with the lineup, you can't send JP out there to go 0-5 every day.

In ESPN Magazine, Steve Phillips suggested the Marlins go after Miguel Batista. I know his name was also tossed around in the offseason--it'd be an interesting idea since he's a pitcher who can start and come out of the pen but I don't know who the Jays would be looking for from us.

Good to see that he's progressing well in the minors--I'll be excited to see him out there. Hopefully we can get him a few AB's late in the year so he'll know what he's up against when starting in RF next year...
