Danny Graves designated for assignment
Danny Graves is ready to make a South Florida return. Designated for assignment by the Cincinnati Reds Monday, the former University of Miami standout has told associates he hopes to land with the Marlins. He doesn't have a choice, at least for the next 10 days. That's how long the Reds have to trade him before putting him on waivers for the purpose of releasing him. The Reds would likely swallow the bulk of Graves' remaining 2005 salary, about $4.5 million, in return for a minor-leaguer. Graves is in the final year of a three-year, $17.25 million deal with the Reds, with whom he lost favor due to a 7.76 ERA and making an obscene gesture to a fan after his latest rough outing Sunday. A right-hander, Graves has 10 saves in 12 chances and played for manager Jack McKeon in Cincinnati. In addition, he was one of pitching coach Mark Wiley's charges in 1996-97 with the Indians. If Graves is not acquired via trade and he clears waivers, he is free to sign with anyone for the prorated league minimum (about $225,000). 781483 imo i think danny graves would be a good pick-up, let wiley work with him and am sure he could be a quality RP. i don't think he's closer material anymore but he could eat up some inn. for us

The Marlins better make a play for him b/c the Braves are trying to work out a deal for Graves RIGHT NOW 780660 exactly, we can't let the braves land this guy

Lowell To Dodgers?
Why is everybody so opposed to trading an overpaid 3rd baseman who isn't hitting to a team with a nice crop of young and cheap talent you could get in return? Gotta pull the trigger if you can, plus that guy in left field isn't a bad 3rd baseman.... 777854 I get into this argument with my buddy -- a diehard Dolphins fan -- all the time: starting around 1995, should we have traded an aging Dan Marino for young talent? I say "hell, yeah," as long as we improved the team. He thought we should never trade Dan because he was the "face" of the franchise and it would have been disloyal to Dan to trade him. Imho, being a fan isn't about rooting for a particular player -- it's about having your team win championships. If the team is comprised of a bunch of thugs, then I can see not wanting to root for them no matter how many rings they win, but there's no one player I'm so attached to in any sport that I wouldn't trade anyway if it improves your chances of winning a championship... 777857 dude don't compare Marino with Lowell, if the Dolphins would have traded Marino there would be no Miami, am talking about there would have been Riots. If Lowell gets traded it will be sad to see him go but Miami would learn to live with it, Trading Marino the city of Miami would still be hurting and talking about it
