I work for a minor league ball club, and we get stadium ballots as well, so what I've been doing is taking a stack of them and punching through them all at the same time. It's an easy way to get 10 of those things done! Also, my website's email is set up in a way that anything "@miamidolphinsbahamas.com" is forwarded to my email. I use a different email everytime at mlb.com and I always get the thank you for voting confirmation email. I really don't buy the "they will fade" argument because of the back end of our rotation. Miller and Badenhop are improving with every start, and Mitre and Sanchez should be off the DL later this season. Josh Johnson is probably out until September right? What I don't get is that everyone loves the Diamombacks and their "young" team, but then they think the Marlins won't last when we are the same thing...full of young talent with one of the best players in the game.

It's different in Boston though. I go to BU and Fenway Park is basically in my backyard. It is so hard to get a Red Sox ticket to any game, whether it's against the Yankees or the Devil Rays. However, just a few years ago, you could walk up to the stadium box office at game time and get pretty good seats, just like you can at Dolphins Stadium, except Dolphins Stadium holds about 65,000 (for baseball) and Fenway Park only can hold 35,000. It's safe to say the Marlins average about 20-25,000 fans per game at home, it just looks so empty because the Stadium is so damn big. This is also in a town where football is the main sport and the Marlins (to most) are a fun way to get through the football off season. In Boston, it's all about the Sox. When the Pats played in the Super Bowl last season, you wouldn't have even known it. I saw one person on the streets wearing a Patriots hat that day. When the Red Sox were in the playoffs and WS last year EVERYONE was wearing Sox apparel. Even the high rise dorms had "Go Sox" in their windows. Sorry to be rambling on like this, but the point is that the Red Sox have been around for decades longer than the Marlins and are in an established baseball town surrounded by about 100 colleges in a 10 mile radius with a bunch of people (like me) who wanna see some good baseball. Dolphins Stadium is in the middle of about three big counties in South Florida, but nonetheless you have to drive to get the stadium. For colleges here, all you have to do is jump on the T. The Marlins have "no fan base" for many reasons, the Red Sox have a huge one for even more, it doesn't make them a better franchise though. Having said that, I like the Sox, I'm rooting for them, but at heart I love my Fish and if they were to ever play the Sox either in an inter-division game or the WS, I will proudly sport my Marlins apparel on the streets of Boston.

I'm leaning towards Hermida because not as many people will have his jersey yet and certainly not up here in Boston. But it's so tempting to go with a guy who's a shoo in for .300, 30 HRs and 100 RBIs each season.

Looks like Hermida will be in the starting lineup for next season, and then probably for the next 5 years at league minimum. Cabrera has 2 years left I think before his contract is up? I'm not too sure about all this, that's why I'm asking. I just wanna get a jersey that I can wear for a while while the player is still with the team. Do you think Cabrera will stay a Marlin for a long time to come or not? Do you think Hermida will live up to his hype? He sure did finish the season strongly. So basically, which jersey would you invest your money in at this point in time?

Hmmmmfff, I wish we had a real ball park, at least that way a 20-29K crowd would look big!

I thought it was an excellent article and brings back good memories. Everyone in baseball knows that Steve Bartman is not the reason the Marlins won that game. Cubs fans however, have year after year needed to find an excuse for failing. Unfortunately, Bartman had to endear the wrath of years and years of Cubs' failure.
