  1. If you had ever heard of him in the Tigers organization then I give you major props. If not, then you've only known of his existence for the past 15 months, and have only seen him pitch for the past year. What has he ever done to impress all you people??? This is a minor deal in the long run everybody, minor. He's been a very serious RP prospect for awhile now.... as in, years I'd rather have Jose Ceda, and its not even close. That's debatable, and even if it isn't....and? What does Jose Ceda have to do with ANYTHING about DLC? Seriously? This wasn't a choice between Jose Ceda and DLC. It was just my way of pointing out that even though Beinfest may have to cut loose some average talented relievers (De La Cruz, Nelson, Waechter, etc.), he will also bring in guys with at least the same talent level or even higher (Ceda, Calero, Proctor) to fill out the bullpen.

  3. Obviously Beinfest wasn't too worried about losing one of the more intimidating (ahahahaah) pitchers on the staff. Its a possibility that he is better than what we have left, but we have mixed and matched our bullpen for years, De La Cruz is very replaceable. That's not the point. The point is how you get every last bit of value out of everything you do. We may have given away Nelson, and now Cruz, away for free. And each of them is capable of throwing 60+ innings at under a 4 era. I have a problem with these kinds of moves, even if we can just acquire the next Calero, or whoever, to basically do the same thing. On the surface, the move is frustrating. But then I realize that there is no reason to cry over spilled milk, and that is all De La Cruz is, spilled milk.
  4. Wouldn't you think that there's a reason the 40 man is now the 36 man, I know I do. You can't look at DLC in a vacuum, the same thing is going on at 29 other spring training sites. I like DLC, have for a pretty long while but time marches on. There's another kid coming up through the system, and another, another, maybe he'll find his niche with the Padres but obviously the front office is executing their plan and he wasn't part of it. 5. He'll be out of the league in three years. Very unlikely with his pure stuff and age. He'll at minimum bounce around for 5 years to see if he is a late bloomer. And you should really check out how Petco helped Linebrink, Bell, and Meredith. That place create relievers. And regardless, that's not the point. You can't name many better RP right now that are better or offer more upside than Cruz, and that is the problem. Keeping a Badenhop (with options) or C. Martinez (with options) on your team over Cruz, is atrocious player management. This is an abysmal move. It's hard to defend them when what, the 3rd or 4th worst team on waivers claims him. It's not like he even got through 5 times on waivers. Doesn't that tell you something? Obviously Beinfest wasn't too worried about losing one of the more intimidating (ahahahaah) pitchers on the staff. 6. He'll be out of the league in three years lol
  7. The Padres have reportedly claimed RHP Eulogio De La Cruz off waivers from the Marlins. Because he was out of options, De La Cruz appeared to have a very good chance of making the Marlins, and he had hardly embarrassed himself while giving up four runs -- two earned -- in 5 1/3 innings this spring. He's an excellent pickup for the Padres. With his 92-95 mph fastball and plus changeup, he has the stuff to serve as a setup man or maybe a closer someday. He's easily a better bet than either relief prospect the team picked up from the Cardinals in the Khalil Greene deal. ---- DUMB Nothing we can't replace.
  8. Robert Andino wrecked a ball in the bottom of the 10th to end the game. Reminded me of those walk-offs from early last season.
  9. I had no idea it would be on MLB.TV....i'm pissing my pants right now. Baseball!! glad we showed up today.
  10. Wow... we're loaded. Those young hitters are something. Seriously. There really is no reason for the Marlins NOT to take off in the coming years. A STACKED farm system + the returns from the Uggla/Cantu/Hermida/Ross trades = A plethora of talent. Hmm, except for the fact that we have no guarantee that the young guys will actually pan out and adequately replace guys like Hermida, Ross, Uggla and Cantu. I'd take Maybin or Morrison over any of those four. Stanton and Dominguez are good-to-great bets IMO.

  12. Well on on opening day 2010, Mike Stanton will be 20 years old. Miguel Cabrera was 20 years old when he was brought up from AA, and Stanton is actually held in a similar regard to that of Cabrera in the minors.
  13. I think I'm going to tear up, but I'll hold that off until Feb. 13th!!
  14. Opening 2007 was $30M. Opening 2009 is around $38M. Two years, minimal increase. Really? How are you getting to 38. Assuming Uggla wins arbitration: C John Baker $405,000 1B G. Sanchez $400,000 2B Dan Uggla $5,350,000 3B Jorge Cantu $3,500,000 SS Hanley Ramirez $5,500,000 LF Jeremy Hermida $2,250,000 CF Cameron Maybin $400,000 RF Cody Ross $2,250,000 B Dallas McPherson $500,000 B Wes Helms $950,000 B Alfredo Amezaga $1,300,000 B Emilio Bonifacio $405,000 B Mike Rabelo $405,000 SP Josh Johnson $1,400,000 SP Ricky Nolasco $2,400,000 SP Chris Volstad $405,000 SP Andrew Miller $1,350,000 SP Anibal Sanchez $420,000 RP Matt Lindstrom $420,000 RP Leo Nunez $420,000 RP Scott Proctor $750,000 RP Logan Kensing $660,000 RP Reynel Pinto $420,000 RP Eulogio De La Cruz $400,000 RP Meyer/Kroenke $400,000 $33,060,000 < - or $5 million less I was just guestimating. Thank you for proving my point even more though.
  15. Whats it projected to be? $38M?? It was $30M+ for the 2006 season. In two seasons it has raised less than $10M, that is not a real significant number. Marlins Opening Day payroll in 2006 was $15M. That means that the payroll for next season, which I very quickly estimated at $36M, is increasing about 140%. I meant 2007. Opening 2007 was $30M. Opening 2009 is around $38M. Two years, minimal increase. Why go two years back as opposed to one? How about three? Plus, find another business who's payroll increases 26% over two years. And, in the end, he wasn't talking about two years, or even three. He was talking about an increase from last year to this year. A 72% increase from your estimation. Bro. Impressive calculations. You rounded off nicely.

  17. Ivan Rodriguez-C-YankeesJan. 22 - 11:41 am etTeam president David Samson said Wednesday that there's "zero" chance of the Marlins signing Ivan Rodriguez. Florida was seemingly Rodriguez's most likely destination, but apparently not. The Marlins will go with John Baker as their starting catcher. "Our payroll has gone up significantly and I would say we are set," Samson said.Source: Palm Beach Post Rotoworld I guess it's Baker and Rabelo to the rescue. I think I'm going to puke. We havn't even signed anyone. We literally have only signed one new person who is guaranteed to make the team (Scott Proctor), and even he could be easily released. Samson is saying were "set" after adding only a relief pitcher with many question marks. I love the Marlins more than most, but jeez, they're killing me. I'm not looking for them to go out and foolishly start spending money on overvalued prima donas, I respect the Marlins for not doing that. But free agency exists for a reason, and that reason isn't for teams to have an outlet to release players. WE AREN'T TAKING ADVANTAGE OF FREE AGENCY. For us to be "set" is absurd! Just because we haven't signed anyone doesn't mean our payroll hasn't had a 60% increase. not hard for the payroll to not increase when your team payroll the previous season is less than half the 2nd lowest payroll in the majors And? It's still increased significantly. Whats it projected to be? $38M?? It was $30M+ for the 2006 season. In two seasons it has raised less than $10M, that is not a real significant number.
  18. jsprt picked up on something I miss - if we take these words as true, Samson is saying that they aren't going to spend any more money, whatsoever. I sure hope McDallas can play LF then.......... "...and I would say we are set..." does not mean they aren't going to spend any more money, whatsoever. If he wanted to make that proclamation he would have. If Samson meant the statement "I would say we are set," if it is how he truly feels, then doesn't that mean no transactions worth noting will be made? Whether he mentioned money almost means the same thing. He means that Samson will never shy away from flat out saying something. If he said we're set, I think Samson is saying we don't need Pudge, and we don't plan on overpaying for him. If he meant we weren't going to spend any more money, he would come right out and say "We're done spending money, we've reached our limit." I'm saying he did say that, in other words.

  21. Uggla and the Marlins going to arbitration? Not great news for the Marlins or for us fans. Uggla may end up the highest paid Marlin after all said and done. This would mean his ticket out of S. Florida by the All Star Break That's what scares me. It shouldn't. We traded Miguel Cabrera and stayed in contention. Dan Uggla's departure will amount to next to nothing.
  22. Per Sun-Sentinel... Nolasco signs for 1 year, $2.4M (can earn another $50,000 in performance bonuses) Amezega signs for 1 year, $1.3M (can earn another $125,000 in bonuses depending on plate appearances) http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports_baseb...rbitration.html Sounds like an absolute steal for both of them!!
  23. I have voted for Fishing for October since survey 1. HOORAY!
  24. I got 89-73....2nd in NL East. Barely miss playoffs. Is it too early to guage?
