  1. Sparano deserves the award more. Atlanta was in just as much hell as miami. I disagree. lol Atlanta had a coach that left without any notice, they had their franchise QB go to jail, there defense was terrible last year, and they had to start a rookie QB. There franchise was in dissaray just as much as the Dolphins were. Hell we had the advatange having an experienced QB. LOL The Dolphins also had a coach that left without any notice (Saban), then had to deal with the worst coach in the NFL (Cameron). They had no franchise QB to have something bad happen to. The Dolphins as a whole were terrible last year. And Pennington was a waiver wire pickup in training camp.

  3. Could they at least sign some guys to minor league deals so that we can have something to get excited about? Like a backup catcher or a 1B to battle Sanchez for at bats? I'm honestly not that upset they haven't done anything. 1- I don't think there is much out there that would warrant spending money 2- I look at what the Yankees have done and it seems so ridiculous to me, especially signing an injury-prone pitcher like Burnett to a 5 year contract. I think they're going to be in for a real shock when the recession really hits and they can't fill their stadium every night. I say we sit pat and make wise decisions. I honestly think we have a very good time going into '09 The Marlins have brainwashed you.
  4. It's mid December, give it some time. Free Agency overall is behind this year. Usually the way it works is all the big name FAs like CC, Tex, and K-Rod sign first, followed by the 2nd tier FAs (Burrell, Dunn, Abreu etc ), and lastly the lower FAs, which is who we will most likely go after. Trust me, moves WILL be made. We obviously need a platoon mate for Baker, plus a 4th outfielder. It'll happen eventually. Your basing your confidence on modern baseball logistics. The Marlins (mostly) do not operate with that logic.

  6. "Furthermore, on December 9, Obama said he had no idea what was going on in Illinois, directly contradicting what David Axelrod said on November 23 that he knew Obama had talked to Blagojevich about his seat." I don't think what Obama said directly contradicts Axelrod's statement. When Obama said that he had no idea what was going on in Illinois, he was probably referencing the scandal as a whole. All Axelrod said is that Obama had talked to Blagojevich about filling his seat, he didn't say that Obama knew about the scandal or who the Governor was leaning towards choosing. Obama was never quoted as saying he had hadn't spoke to Blagojevich. So you can not conclude that Axelrod's statement has revealed Obama to be a liar. I thought obama said he never talked to Blagojevich about the seat and there is audio of him talking. Obama did say he was releasing more info on this during christmas week. Another good time for him to place info :whistle Just like when he let the Rezko information leak during the Wright stuff... I don't recall there being any audio of Obama talking to Blagojevich about the seat. Please provide a credible link. Also, Obama will release the details of the staff contacts next week at the request of the prosecutor. If the prosecutor didn't make that request I am sure we'll hear about it. I am not saying that Obama did or didn't speak to Blagojevich. Just that his statement that he did not know what was going on in Illinois does not contradict anything said by Axelrod.

  8. I can't believe we got more for Kevin Gregg than we did for Scott Olsen and Hammer. Unbelievable. Kevin Gregg has more value than either. He will get back A compensation next year, doesn't have off field issues or back problems. He's also a damn good reliever. Arguable.
  9. I would like to say hello to everyone from northsidebaseball.com! Kevin Gregg is very up and down. One outing he'll shut down the side. The next night he'll walk the bases loaded. That type of inconsistency has caused certain Marlins fans to throw chairs, lamps, books, etc.
  10. Baseball Prospectus (notably Kevin Goldstein) had Ceda as the Cubs #3 prospect heading into the 2009 season 3. Jose Ceda, RHP DOB: 1/28/87 Height/Weight: 6-4/275 Bats/Throws: R/R Drafted/Signed: Dominican Republic, 2004 (Padres) 2008 Stats: 4.80 ERA at High-A (54.1-41-28-53), 7.17 DERA; 2.08 ERA at Double-A (30.1-26-14-42), 2.89 DERA Last Year's Ranking: 4 Year in Review: The top closer prospect in the system began the year as a starter in order to work on his overall game, and returned to his dominating ways when moved back into the closer's role at Double-A. The Good: Ceda brings presence to the mound with the size, stuff, aggressiveness, and intimidation factor of a shut-down closer. He has the classic closer's combination of fastball/slider, both knockout pitches, with the fastball sitting at 94-97 mph and touching 100, while the power slider features plenty of depth and tilt. The Bad: Ceda overthrows both pitches at times, which can lead to control issues, as can his arm-heavy mechanics, which involve a significant amount of grunting. He experimented with a changeup while starting, but it was never any more than a show-me pitch, and nobody argues with the fact that he's a reliever only. His size is a bit of a concern, and he started to put on some soft weight last year. Fun Fact: When pitching in the ninth inning or later for Double-A Tennessee, Ceda allowed just two runs over 16 innings while striking out 28. Perfect World Projection: He should become a dominating closer. Glass Half Empty: Unless his control problems become a constant, or something else unpredictable happens, it's hard to not see Ceda pitching in the late innings. Path To The Big Leagues: The Cubs are set in terms of who pitches late in games for now, so Ceda's rise to the closer role with his current club could take a while. Timetable: Team officials think that Ceda is close to ready for the big leagues, and depending on the numbers game, he'll begin the season closing at either Double- or Triple-A. He could be up by the end of the year, giving the Cubs one of the most power-armed bullpens in all of baseball. Are the Cubs aware that Kevin Gregg isn't very good?
  11. Best way to judge a trade? Find out how the other team's fans are reacting. AND CUBS FANS DON'T SEEM TOO FOND OF THIS! http://www.bleedcubbieblue.com/2008/11/13/...re-closer-gregg
  12. For a 21 year old reliever? Man, it's not terrible but I am starting to think Beinfest is rushing these trades. What did you expect to get for Kevin Gregg??
  13. This isn't even like a Manny Ramirez free agent scenario where the only reason we don't go after him is because he costs too much. Griffey would become one of the highest paid players on our team, but the 10th greatest contributor.
  14. Bonaficio- 2B Amezaga- CF Hanley- SS Cantu- 1B Uggla- 3B Ross / Mcpherson- LF Hermida / Ross- RF Baker- C I don't see Hermida staying here, Bonaficio, Amezaga and Hanley would provide great speed at the top of our lineup, and I didn't put Maybin in CF because the FO doesn't want him up here yet, although a great Spring could easily earn him a spot up here. I want Baker at the bottom of the lineup due to his knowledge of finding spots to move runners. Oy, the logic. :banghead :banghead :banghead What do you mean they don't want him up here yet?? I guarantee you Beinfest wants him to be our starting center fielder, leading off on opening day.
  15. I have always been behind Beinfest 100%. Always. Perhaps I am letting this trade piss me off too much, but his recent trades have been overall dissapointing.
  16. http://miamiherald.typepad.com/fish_bytes/...s-you-thou.html Theres a list of who is wearing what here.
  17. Come to think of it. Its pretty weird that we have a couple of hall of fame caliber guys in Tony Perez and Andre Dawson working in our front office. I doubt this is the case for most organizations.
  18. im good with Maybin Baker Hanley Cantu Cody Gaby/McDallas Coghln hermida as a lineup The beauty of this lineup is that it doesn't include any of the talented players were going to receive in the offseason for Uggla, Jacobs, Olsen, Willingham, etc.
  19. This has been one of the crazier Marlins seasons I have followed. Hot streaks, slumps, just the inconsistency has been unbelievable. But the bottom line is that they are in line to become the 3rd best Marlins team in franchise history record wise. Something I think we are all proud of this team accomplishing. Record in final 10 to reach 3rd: 4-6.....sooo doable!!
  20. If I recall, Miggy wanted 24 and had to "earn it" according to Tony since 24 was his number. I just saw Maybin is wearing 24 did he just get a pass? I mean, Miggy had to earn it. Does anyone know any details about this? Your right. Miguel wanted #24 when he got called up in 2003, but it belonged to Tony Perez, so he wore #20. After that season, Perez said Cabrera had earned it, thus he started the 2004 season with #24. I dont know about the number in Maybin's case. My best guess is that Perez has had a new number since he gave 24 away like 4 years ago and Maybin picked it because it was available.
  21. Graham Taylor is quietly becoming one of our top 10 prospects.
  22. Hopefully he's not around much longer, so this won't be an issue.
  23. This is excellent news, IMO. All those guys are not only easily replaceable in our system, but they also are probably at peak value right now, meaning the return will never be better. I hope we do move all those guys mentioned, except Hermida. Should be a fun off season. Agreed Its obivous changes need to be made. This off-season should be veeeerrrry interesting
  24. Florida is a state of transplants, what do you expect! booooooooo
  25. Put Hanley second. Mix it up for him. Let Amezega/Ross lead off the game. Who knows.
