Icky Thump
Is there any major band out there right now making better music than the White Stripes? Just about all of them. I can't stand the White Stripes, their music drives me crazy. Their last single gave me a headache. No, no one is making better music right now than the White Stripes. There are a few bands making better music than the Stripes, but not too many. Jack White is so ridiculously talented, it's not even funny. "You Don't Know What Love Is (You Just Do As Your Told)" is great. "Conquest" took a few listen to sink in, but driving around with it blasting has definitely made me love it.

Marlins interested in Michael Barrett
I actually agree with Spud. Amezaga has been pretty respectable in the leadoff spot. Anyone know what his avg/obp/slg are when he leads off? Those could definitely make me change my tune if my eyes are deceiving me. I think Amezaga is absolutely worthless anywhere else in the lineup, but at leadoff he sees much better pitches. I could care less that he is fast. .292/.346/.367

He's the 4th best hitter in all of baseball at the age of 24. That is pretty incredible. I wonder how high Pujols ranked as a 24 year old. I can't tell what your point is, actually. Pujols might become the best hitter ever if he keeps it up, so of course he's better than Miguel at the same age. That doesn'tn make Miguel any less impressive.

You know what else is an important difference? 109 OPS+ in 03 171(HOLYSHIT!!!11!@&$@*) OPS+ in 07 :o Bob, where can you find these kinds of statistics? http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cabremi01.shtml His OPS+ has improved every single year. That could be a record. '03 - 109 '04 - 130 '05 - 151 '06 - 159 '07 - 171 Bonds' OPS+ is 185 this season. Miggy is second in the NL. A-Rod and Ordonez in the AL also have him beat. So he's the 4th best hitter in the entire league at the age of 24. Thats incredible.

Olivo's best year isn't as good as Barrett's average year. Do it.

We need Elijah Dukes
Careful what you say about De Aza. He has a quirky set of followers that think he is a sure fire hall of famer. And there's an equal number of people who seem ready to dismiss him, despite what he's done before going on the DL. In ten games. Reggie Abercrombie has had good 10 day stretches. After all his personal problems, I don't think he should be on the top 10 list. I don't care if he has the talent of Babe Ruth or Barry Bonds. These type of player tend to be a bust. If a player has the talent of Barry Bonds, I don't care if he pisses on the pitching mound between every inning and steals candy from children and has 40 illigetimate children. You keep that guy. Because he's good at baseball. And thats all that matters when you are talking about baseball. Reggie Jackson got into a fight with his manager and I"m pretty sure they won a World Series that year. Jeff Kent and Barry Bonds got into a fight in the dugout the year they went to the world series (I think). Chemistry doesn't mean anything. Also, there are tons of players with problems who turn into great players. Mickey Mantle was a raging alcoholic, Ty Cobb was the biggest racist in the world, Albert Belle had all types of run ins with the cops, but it doesn't matter because they were great players. If this guy is the next Albert Belle (with speed) then we should trade for him right now.

What doesn't the front office understand about buying out arbitrat
I'd say the odds are in his favor. Look at it this way. If he had one more hit per week, he'd be hitting about .250 with on OBP of .350 and an OPS of .750, which is actually above average for the NL in a the Marlins ball park. He's had a mix of bad luck and a slump. He's hitting for power and has a strong 10% walk rate, so the skill is obviously there. And once the luck evens out he's gonna go on a tear.

What doesn't the front office understand about buying out arbitrat
Why is that spike? Is he really hitting .300 and the stats on MLB.COM are wrong? What about the unbelievable amount of whiffs? And the fact that he can't catch a flyball? Because he is 23 years old. Many players suck at 23 years old and have great careers. not everyone is Miguel Cabrera. Mike Lowell wasn't even in the Majors at 23. He's done ok for himself. At the age of 23, David Ortiz had 0 hits in 20 major league at bats. At the age of 23, JD Drew (Who is extremely comparable to Hermida, I'd say) hit .240 and had a 92 OPS+. Hermida has an OPS+ of 95. He's gonna be fine.

Boone will get at least 3 starts a week when Jacobs comes back. Thats not a bench player. Thats a platoon.
-
What doesn't the front office understand about buying out arbitrat
The point is that Boone is a bench player when everyone is healthy and he's by far the best reserve player on the Marlins. No, the point is that Boone isn't a bench player right now. Especially since even when Jacobs comes back, they want to keep Boone's bat in the lineup. He's too good to be sitting on the bench getting 1 at bat a game.

Yankees catching fire
The Yankees have interested for Dunn and David Weathers, or so I have heard. People think A-Rod gets booed, could you imagine Dunn and his strikeouts? I laugh thinking about Dunn playing 1st for the Yankees. Thats because Yankees fans are dumb. Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

What doesn't the front office understand about buying out arbitrat
Aaron Boone has been starting for like a month now. He's not a bench player right now. And I think everyone knows my opinion on BA and K's, so I'm not going to go there. Actually, he's about as equally crappy as everyone else on our bench. But it's a bench. You don't expect much out of them. Cody Ross is our best bench player when healthy. Borchard at least can draw a walk and hit with some power, something neither Wood, Amezaga, Reggie, nor Treanor can't do.

What doesn't the front office understand about buying out arbitrat
So you don't think the Marlins could have got anyone better than Abercrombie and Amezaga with a couple of million bucks? LOL. They would've saved like 10 million dollars overall for the past 4 years assuming they did sign them. That's enough to get you a Rob Mackowiak or Scott Podsednik. Better than Amezaga and Reggie, but not the answer we need. It really wouldn't have made a huge difference. And Joe Borchard has been our best bench player.

Yankees catching fire
The Yankees will win more games with Giambi than Cairo. No question. Cairo's bat is so bad (And Giambi's is so good) that he could be the best defensive first baseman ever and still not be more valuable to the Yankees than Giambi. They can probably afford to do it, and they'll still be a good team, but they are a much much better team with Giambi. No question.

Yankees catching fire
I have really like Cairo's glove at 1B, though. He's saved the Yanks several runs already which pretty much makes his bat a wash. LOL @ His glove making his .540 OPS a wash. He's awful, and you are absolutely better with Giambi there every day.

What doesn't the front office understand about buying out arbitrat
How would we have a center fielder if our best chances for getting a good center fielder is by trading Willis or Cabrera. That makes no sense. The like 8 million dollars we would've saved overall would be enough to get us like 2 years of Scott Podsenik or someone else equally sh*tty.

Broward County wants to dump WIOD over Rush
The gist of this thread so far is Liberal=evil, stupid, etc. Nice to see the other side is just as capable of making idiotic knee jerk statements as we are. This is a really stupid idea, but I think it's more symbolic than anything. I really don't think anything will come of this. The majority of people, no matter how liberal, aren't stupid enough to see this as a positive.

Hermida=bust im not gonna go that far...but if he doesnt get his act together soon...then id say we need a right fielder much more desperately than a center fielder...a rf that is hitting .210 and plays poor defense should have no part of the big leagues WE HAVE NO CENTER FIELDER. THAT IS A MUCH MORE PRESSING PROBLEM THAN A GUY WHO WALKS LIKE A MILLION TIMES A YEAR AND IS LIKE 22 YEARS OLD AND WAS ONE OF THE BEST POSITION PROSPECTS TO COME THROUGH OUR SYSTEM. first of all...STOP SCREAMING...secondly...right now...the tandem of AA and abercrombie is playing better than jobo and hermida...jeremy cant make a career of beating on tampa when we only see them 6 times a year Hermida OPS+: 92 Borchard OPS+: 88 Amezaga OPS+: 77 Abercrombia OPS+: 58 Stats are fun.

Did he hit him or did he throw inside? Becuase my sportsline game line says he hit him. Thats different than throwing inside, and it makes much more sense to toss him (since it's like, a rule).
