Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
This movie was deep? Unless you guys are talking about the depth of the sea, I just didn't see much depth in this at all. Still a really fun popcorn movie. It wasn't deep really, but in relation to the first POTC, it was, so I guess I could see where everyones coming from. The second one had a little more character depth and development, specifically with Jack Sparrow and his fighting the coward within himself and Elizabeth screwing Jack over despite her obvious liking to him. It's really not deep at all though, just a lot of fun.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
It looks like POTC:DMC just broke the single day record at the box office. HSX is reporting that it made 55 million on Friday, which would beat RoTS by a full 5 million. Unbelievable numbers. It could make over 100 million in 2 days. Those numbers are unheard of. It absolutely crippled Superman. Very poor numbers for Supes.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Really good sequel. It takes about 20 minutes to get going, but once it gets rolling its A LOT of fun. It's not going to win any awards, the writing isn't perfect, the acting isn't flawless, it is ridiculously over-the-top but it's TONS of fun and laughs which is exactly what you want a Pirates movie to be. 4th best movie I've seen so far this year behind Thank You for Smoking, United 93 and VfV. Really good.

This season of The Sopranos was terrible. I have no idea how they got a nomination. Very nice to see Carell and Leary get nominated.

Superman Returns
84 Million in it's 5 day release. http://joblo.com/index.php?id=11923 Yeah. Warner Brothers is in very bad shape. Poseidon did very poorly and Superman has not done well considering how much it cost to make it. I believe I posted this last night. My fault. The article brings up a good point. Batman Begins made 48 million in it's opening weekend and then grossed over 200 million. I don't think this movie is in danger on not turning a profit at all and I wouldn't be suprised if it had a second wind and took a bite out of POTC2:DMC's opening weekend as well. Should be in the 115-120 million range after 2 weeks not bad at all. Batman Begins had some of the best legs of any movie ever, which reflected its great quality. I highly doubt Superman Returns has similar legs. I really don't think the BB comparison is applicable here. SR is much more frontloaded, while BB had amazing legs and a terrible opening weekend. POTC:DMC may cut it off at the knees next week, as well. Don't worry about WB, though. They'll be fine. They are probably going to make about 180-200 million on the domestic BO, and quite a bit more overseas (of which they only get a moderate percentage of). Then, with TV deals, merchandising, and licensing they will undoubtedly get into the black. I would be shocked if this endangers any future sequels. Much like Batman Begins, Superman Returns was a setup movie. It was built specifically to recreate a franchise. Look for Batman Begins to make over 300 million in 2008 and Superman Returns to make over 300 million in 2009. WB did lose a killing on Poseidon, though.

2006 All-Star Game Selection Show
According to NESN, Mark Loretta overtook Robinson Cano at the end of balloting. Cano is hurt, Loretta would have gotten his spot anyway.

V for Vendetta, DVD
More misleading stuff from WB. Classic movie, though. I'll be picking up the Special Edition the day its released and watch it on the big screen with surround sound blasting. Can't wait.

The Dark Knight
http://uk.filmforce.ign.com/articles/714/714752p1.html Robin Williams wants this part bad. I actually don't feel that badly about it either, he seems to really get the character being a big collector of comic books/graphic novels himself. Not my first choice, but he wouldn't be the last on my list either.

Bleacher Creatures Section 39
Here are some videos for those of you who don't know what the hell he's talking about: ROLE CALL: SONGS: Theres many more on Youtube if you care to look them up. Unfortunately these videos don't do it justice. You can hear them every game during the first inning doing the role call and yelling "BOX SEATS SUCK"...They are LOUD even on TV.

David Ortiz
Wow, calm down. I used to like you in the fact that we could disagree and yet still have good debates but the way you just went overboard and talking down to me like I'm 11 with all your capitalization, punctuation, and flippant language I'm done with that. Where did I talk down to you? I didn't really disagree with anything you said. Though I didn't appreciate being accused of something that I didn't do. I never started the steroid conversation in this thread. Capitalization and punctuation was for emphasis, I'm trying it out, it's kind of a hybrid writing style I read on another message board. Guess it didn't go over too well. And I didn't notice any particularly flippant language. I have no idea why you went off on a tangent on Barry Bonds, but if it made you feel better and was some sort of release from the thrashing in the Bronx today, cool I guess. I recommend masturbating though, less effort and much more satisfying. I went off on a tangent on Barry Bonds to show that every single one of these players has a story about how they "improved" their game. You can't buy into any of them. They're all rich, lying douchebags. By the way, I'm taking your response as a graceful waving of the white flag. Good game. 'Twas fun. See you in the next Red Sox/Yankee thread.

David Ortiz
HGH......???? Steroids????? Are you serious? If you don't think theres a possibility that Ortiz went on the Giambi juice you're nuts. I think you people are nuts for thinking everyone and there mothers were on HGH or steroids just b/c they either A) Gained size over time B) Improved there game Only thing Big Papi is guilty of is being on too much Aunt Jemima While I didn't bring up the subject of Ortiz being on steroids, I think it's naive to act like it's not possible either. Is it possible David Ortiz became a workout warrior and has improved his game greatly through practice and repition in the cage? It's possible. I'd say its also possible that he took an UNTRACEABLE HGH to do it. People don't go from hitting 15 HRs a year to hitting 50 HRs a year from eating pizzas, sweetheart. He either completely turned his life around with his workout regimen and practice habits, or he went on something. Both are entirely possible. And I don't want to point fingers, but in todays MLB EVERYONE is a suspect. I wouldn't put it passed ANY player. If anyone says it's not possible, they are naive to say the least. But, keep living in the rose colored world, I wish I could. Shocking that Yankee fans keep bringing this up when dealing with Ortiz. Their own personal LCS killer. I didn't bring up steroids and Ortiz, a Marlins fan did. But don't let facts get in the way of a good rant. I responded to someone who made it seem like Ortiz could not be accused. He was beyond accusation! NO ONE should be given a pass here, EVERYONE is a suspect. Right now, how could you put it passed any player? After what we've learned and know about this stuff, how could you not be suspicious of everyone? Also not suprising that you fail to mention some other more reasonable and plausable facts. First of all Ortiz had wrist surgery to remove a chipped hamate bone in his wrist. He also had his left knee repaired. He hit 20 HRs and drove in 72 his last year for the Twins and some of the reasons why the Twins let him go was a poor work ethic, injuries, and what he would have been awarded in arbitration coming off a solid season and entering his prime. I had heard that the reason the Twins let him go was because they didn't think he had enough power to play a corner position in the American League. I'll dig the article out if you care to argue over it, though it's really trivial, just let me know. So wadda you know, entering into a new situation with two Domican stars already on the team, injury and pain free for the first time in his career, and getting taught by Ron Jackson who altered his stance and approach to the plate that took time when he got here. He batted .212 his first month with the Sox. He improved steadily before really breaking out in August and September that year and then having the full monster season in 2004. Certainly did have a monster year. I wonder what Bonds story was. Anyone want to check it out? A new hardcore workout regimen? A new batting stance? Did he just have surgery following the 1999 season? Was he finally healthy for the first time in years in the year 2000 where he began his ascent to legendary status? Anyone care to look it up? WELL YOU KNOW WHAT? I CARE TO! Funny...Following the 1999 season, Barry Bonds had knee surgery. FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS BARROIDS WAS HEALTHY! He also began a new hardcore workout system which his trainer Greg Anderson spoke about in several weightlifting magazines! I wonder how he did that next year...Hm...You guessed it! He hit 15 more home runs than the year prior and increased his SLG by almost 70 points. The year after that, as his weight/muscle mass continued to balloon Barroids added another 73 home runs to his total. Funny, the stories are so similar. I bet if I dug deeper I would learn about Barroids new batting technique and how he had finally gotten some teammates that he liked (obviously Jeff Kent is the exception). I really can't believe we've all been suspcious of Barry this entire time. Well, now we know the truth. He had been injured those years early on in his career. He's just finally healthy and slamming balls all over the park. Good for you Barry! You're now beyond being accused of using steroids, love ya homie! God, I can't believe ESPN wasted all that time talking about this, it's obviously injuries. Idiots! Steroids is an easy way out for a Yankee fan instead of looking at health, Fenway Park, new work ethic, consistent at bats, a better team around him, Ron Jackson, and playing for Boston at ages 28, 29, and 30. Again, I NEVER said that Ortiz did steroids. I just said that it's ridiculous to not consider him a suspect. If you don't think it's possible, you're out of your mind. You're really picking a fight over nothing here. I never accused David Ortiz of doing steroids, I just said that it's a possibility, as it is with any player in baseball that goes through an insane level of production increase. Every player has a story as to how they improved so dramatically, as is the case with Barroids (injuries), Brady Anderson (working out) and Luis Gonzalez (new batting technique). In this era of baseball, suggesting that David Ortiz cannot have possibly done steroids is assanine. THAT'S MY POINT. I NEVER said he did anything, I just said it was possible.

2006 NBA Offseason
Really really interesting. Raptors are now very intriguing. PG-Ford SG-Peterson/Graham SF-Bargnani PF-Bosh C-Rasho For the future, they are intriguing. Right now? They are still a 20 win team. That's a BAD team next year. Period.

Rescue Me
Can anyone summarize the last part of the episode? I got cut off shortly after the crew was on the truck responding to a call. About 39-40 minutes in. Thanks in advance. I seriously cannot even remember. Was this before or after Franco came to the fire station?

The Twins were completely justified in letting David Ortiz go. He sucked. How he stopped sucking and became one of the most prolific hitters of all time, I'll likely never know or understand.

Superman Returns
Good luck finding a seat. That was the one thing I lucked into having been self forced into not catching a night showing. Less crowds which in turn meant more room in the theatre and less noise in the theatre. My IMAX theater was 100% full at 1 PM on a weekday. Luckily I got there early, but everyone was essentially sitting on top of one another.

Superman Returns
Yeah, "Would you like to see my mask?" wasn't over the top. Batman's villains are CRAZY. Of course they're over the top. They should be. They're as much apart of the story as Batman. Theres a difference in the "over the top" element seen in Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow and Jim Carrey's Riddler.

Superman Returns
Oh dear god no. I am not saying I like Joel Shumacher's Batman films. I'd rank them like this. 1. Batman C- (Solid. However, The Joker was the main character) 2. Batman Forever C- (With some edits and less camp the film could have been decent) 3. Batman Returns D (I'm sorry. They got pretty much everything wrong. The backstories and styles of the villains were way off base. Far too gothic for my tastes. The plot was ludicrous.) 4. Batman and Robin F- (Let's not go there) I just find Burton's films to be overrated. None of them are even allowed to hold Batman Begin's jock in my mind. Buckeye, I disagree with you. I know it's called Goth-am, but I hated the city in Batman Returns. Some gothic elements are fine, like what you saw in the building shots from Batman Begins, but I believe Gotham to be more gritty and dark than over the top gothic as Burton seemed to interperet it.

Middle of the theater, about 4 rows from the top.

Superman Returns
Agreed. This movie wasn't great, just good. However I could see the sequels being great. Batman Begins was clearly the better film in my eyes in just about every facet except special effects (really impressive SFX wouldn't have fit into BB anyway), but Superman Returns was fun and exciting nonetheless. I haven't been able to get the Superman Theme out of my head all day...I also loved the visuals. And while I had problems with the story/plot/writing, it was very well acted by Routh, Spacey and Posey. Wasn't really feeling Bosworth as much, but there's room to improve there as well with improved writing. Also, despite what the critics say, I thought the pacing was solid. Fortunately we'll have two great franchises running for the next 6 summers or so with two great directors, Chris Nolan and Bryan Singer, leading the way. Well you see, thats the key. As great as Superman II was, imagine how much better it could have been had Richard Donner been allowed to complete it? Or what Superman III and IV would have turned out? And what about the Batman franchise? If Tim Burton said on to do Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, do you think they would have needed the reboot of Batman Begins? I think the important factors for these two franchises is that the studios find a way to keep Singer on the Superman franchise and Nolan on the Batman franchise if they want to enjoy future successes with these two franchises. While we agree that they need to keep the directors on, I disagree about Tim Burton. Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns were bad movies, and his direction really didn't help matters (over the top gothicism, more concentration on villains than Batman himself).

Rhinoplasty..
Anesthesia shot? I don't know if mine was different because it was more than cosmetic, but there wasn't any shot in my case. I was given general anesthesia--you know, via IV--and I think the procedure was a few hours. Once again, I don't know if this is normal, but for me they made an incision around me upper gums, went in that way, bashed the crap out of my nose, put everything back in place, and then stitched me up. I sure wouldn't want to have to go through all of that with local anesthesia. As for the packing, it's not really a feeling I can explain. It only takes about 5 minutes to remove, though. Not sure what it costs. Mine was covered by our insurance. Wow. You must have had a really messed up nose. They fixed my deviated septum by making a small break and then realigning it correctly. They didn't have to make an incision. Christ.

I still can't get over how terrible the National League is. This can't really be the National Leagues best can it? I think the top 5 teams in the AL are all better than the best team in the National League. Pathetic. By the way, Tom, good job laying down this inning. Your team gets you a lead and you promptly decide to revert to 2004 Tom Glavine mode. Go take a shower punk.
