If Memento and Fight Club don't make the list I'm just going to go ahead and quit voting. These are certainly two of the defining films of our generation, and they MUST be on this list. Memento Fight Club Silence of the Lambs North by Northwest Rear Window Se7en Sixth Sense The Birds Vertigo .....

  3. Those are some pretty sweet sets, Buckeye. If DC ever put out one like that for Batman, I'd defintely consider picking it up. That's a great deal. I never really got into comics, but when a couple of "graphic novels" were recommended to me by some friends, I decided to pick them up. I have: V for Vendetta (Wanted to read it before seeing the film) Watchmen (Still reading) Batman: The Long Halloween (Wanted to read it because BB2 is supposed to play heavily off of it; Havent read it yet) Batman: Year One (Haven't read yet) Batman: Dark Victory (Haven't read yet) Batman: Haunted (Haven't read yet) I thought they would just be silly little books, but I have actually grown to enjoy graphic novels just as much as I enjoy books, and definitely have a great deal of respect for the medium. In fact, V for Vendetta is one of my favorite literary works of all time.
  4. I'll see Poseidon (only because it's in IMAX, and I see every movie that is in IMAX) and the Da Vinci Code. Other than that, I'm not very interested. Might see X-men, probably not though. BTW- I heard Miami Vice sucks as of now (obviously they still have time to correct any problems). Just what I read. Seeing as how I live within walking distance of the Museum of Discovery and Science, I might give that a go as well. I've never seen a 'movie' at IMAX. I originally saw Batman in IMAX and have been hooked ever since. Every movie that appears there I have seen. V for Vendetta should still be in your local IMAX, so if you get a chance you can still hit it up this weekend. Poseidon will be in IMAX as will Superman Returns in June. Check those out as well.

  7. Ah...I remember when I used to moderate here... We used to barely crack 30 posts a day, now I imagine MB gets 30 posts in 30 minutes. Can't believe everyone is still around who I used to moderate with - Ross, yenta, Joe, Admin, Adam. Crazy.

  9. They have had very good coverage of the Hockey playoffs so far, I will give them that. I heard they were milliseconds away from landing the NFL as well, but the NFL backed out at the very last possible moment. Comcast, who I believe they are owned by, is definitely willing to shell out the bucks to make this a big network. You'll probably see MLB or the NBA move to "Versus" in the near future.
  10. Also, while I'm still rolling, Goya's Ghost and The Departed should also be films to look forward to in the fall, just as The Prestige.
  11. Movies I'll see: 1. A Scanner Darkly 2. Superman Returns (Only because it's in IMAX) ... Yup...Weak. We have some solid films coming out later on in the year though, The Prestige being the highlight of them, at least so far, for me. That book was fantastic, hoping the movie is just as well done. With Christopher Nolan at the helm, Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as the leads and Scarlett Johannson as eye candy, I don't see how it can disappoint.

Someone please vote Amadeus so we at least have a somewhat respectable list.
  13. I don't know many AL rookies, but it's hard to argue against Papelbon. We're 13 games into the year. Frame of reference has clearly been lost.

  17. I guess they want to make him a martir leave him alone. Hah. So I assume they should just let him off the hook for lying to the grand jury? Amusing. I hope Bonds rides the steroid train straight to the cell he belongs in.

  20. Great episode. That one bigot who kept talking about how Gay people didn't meet the boy scouts standards was hilarious. Penn's response- "MOTHER f***ER!"

I think Hoop Dreams is the only one people "must see".

Are you kidding me? That letter from V for Vendetta was so cheesy and OTT political nonsense. If you want something that'll make you cry, go watch Hotel Rwanda. Sweetheart, step away from the ledge please. You need to settle down. Movies are seen and interpereted differently by different people. I have seen Hotel Rwanda and I never came close to crying, while Rwanda is a great movie and greatly displays the horrors of even the modern day world, I never felt enough of an emotional connection to get teary-eyed over it. It's not because genocide isn't something to cry over, it's just that I never had an intense emotional connection to it. I'm sorry you thought it was cheesy, and political -- I found it to be incredibly heartbreaking and very powerful. Everyone is going to have a different emotional reaction to each scene, most people I know found that scene to be incredibly moving. Some people, like you, did not. "Different strokes for different folks." Now, I suggest you turn off attack mode and return to normalcy. But first, I have to ask you: Angrily attacking someone's opinion on a segment of a movie on an online message board....Are you kidding me?

I think Hotel Rwanda is more of a drama, but that's not one of the options. Really the whole movie is Paul holding off the troops, there is no war, there is no thriller quality to it. It's just a story about one man, doing everything possible to survive.

Gotta agree. V for Vendetta is a drama, with 4 minutes of action stuffed in there to keep the moronic masses from going insane.

I hadn't cried seeing a movie in years...Until I saw this... V for Vendetta, Valerie Page's Letter : I know there is no way I can convince you this is not one of their tricks, but I don't care. I am me. My name is Valerie.I don't think I'll live much longer and I wanted to tell someone about my life. This is the only autobiography that I will ever write, and God, I'm writing it on toiler paper. I was born in Nottingham in 1985. I don't remember much of those early years, but I do remember the rain. My grandmother owned a farm in Tottlebrook, and she used to tell me that God was in the rain. I passed my 11 plus and went to Girls Grammar. It was at school that I met my first girlfriend. Her name was Sara. It was her wrists. They were beautiful. I thought we would love eachother forever. I remember our teacher telling us that it was an adolescent phase that people outgrew. Sara did, I didn't. In 2002, I fell in love with a girl named Christina. That year I came out to my parents. I couldn't have done it without Chris holding my hand. My father wouldn't look at me. He told me to go and never come back. My mother said nothing. But I had only told them the truth, was that so selfish? Our integrity sells for so little, yet it is all we really have. It is the very last inch of us. But within that inch, we are free. I'd always known what I wanted to do with my life, and in 2015, I starred in my first film, The Salt Flats. It was the most important role of my life, not because of my career, but because that was how I met Ruth. The first time we kissed, I knew I never wanted to kiss any other lips but hers again. We moved to a small flat in London together. She grew Scarlet Carsons for me in our windowbox, and our place always smelled of roses. Those were the best years of my life. But America's war grew worse, and worse, and eventually came to London. After that there were no roses anymore. Not for anyone. I remember how the meaning of words began to change. How unfamiliar words like collateral and rendition became frightening, while things like Norsefire and the Articles of Allegiance became powerful. I remember how different became dangerous. I still don't understand it...why they hate us so much. They took Ruth while she was out buying food. I've never cried so hard in my life. It wasn't long til they came for me. It seems strange that my life should end in such a terrible place, but for three years I had roses and apologized to no one. I shall die here, every inch of me shall perish. Every inch, but one. An inch. It is small and it is fragile. And it is the only thing in the world worth having. We must never lose it or give it away. We must never let them take it from us. I hope that whoever you are you escape this place. I hope that the world turns and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that, even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you... I love you. With all my heart. I love you. Valerie
