Scott Olsen
He's pitching well and that's the one thing he controls. He doesn't control the bullpen or the defense or the run support. I wish pitchers wouldn't put so much empahsis on their win / loss record.

Gonzo instead of Hermida
If Hermida was still slumping then yes but he's playing better now. He has an eleven game hitting steak and is also walking again.

A-hole of the game
The ump doesn't belong on there.

Marlins Bullpen
The Jacobs mental error had a lot to do with it. He gets the blame for two of the runs.

Dave Hyde can SUCK IT
Anyone else read the 5th comment down? NICE PIECE. I LIKE YOUR STYLE. FOR ALL GAY BASEBALL FANS, CHECK OUT MARLINSBASEBALL.COM TO CONNECT WITH OTHER HOMOSEXUAL BASEBALL FANS IN MIAMI AND ACROSS THE USA. TALK BASEBALL AND OTHER HOT TOPICS WITH OTHER GAY MEMBERS! MARLINSBASEBALL.COM IS THE ONLY ALL GAY MARLINS SITE ON THE NET! STOP BY TODAY! Probably some clown from Teal and Black.. My guess is that it was Festa. It has his signature blunt, juvenile, falling-on-its-face humor about it. As far as Hyde goes, between his articles portraying Norm Braman as some kind of Everyman fighting for the rights of the people of Dade County and his jabs at the organization and fans like this one - it is clear he is no friend of the Marlins. That's my guess as well. He, whoever it is, has posted those type of comments before.

Hanley having a down year?
First and foremost, RBI is a context stat, meaning they are dependant on who bats in front of you and how many at-bats you have. It is probably the worst stat to look at when analyzing a hitter. I think Jonah Keri of Baseball Prospectus says it best. "Albert Pujols is not a great hitter because he gets a lot of RBI. Rather, he gets a lot of RBI because he is a great hitter who gets a lot of RBI opportunities." The reason Hanley only has 33 RBI is because has has been horrible driving runners in in his RISP opportunities. One way I like to look at RISP productivity is to look at the ratio of RBIs to outs made in the RISP PAs. Hanley's ratio is .35 which is horrible compared to the league average which is .51. Pujols' career ratio is .86. That's pretty good and that's the primary reason he has so many RBIs every year.

Beinfest on the Marlins defense
Range Factor is right there with CERA in the bucket of retarded stats. I can't believe people use it.

"The Cantu dive"
Cantu might have not only saved a win but Gregg's job. What a play that was. I remember in 03' vs. the Red Sox Jaun Pierre made a diving play with runners on, in a close game to end it. Cantu is very solid at 1st, and ti may be tough for Jake to get back at 1st. He did which is interesting because of how Gregg threw him under the bus in Atlanta.

Beinfest on the Marlins defense
What type of trade value does a first baseman with below average defense, OBP, OPS, AVG have? None.

Dan Uggla - Your 2008 NL MVP?
We are almost halfway through the season. It may be a little early, but I think we can still discuss. The question becomes can he sustain this pace through the second half? And will sportswriters take notice of what he has done if he does so? Berkman and Utley are the only ones that I think are more likely to win it than Uggla. Pujols and Chipper will both miss 20 or more games and that will take them out of it.

C.C. Sabathia
His season ERA has decreased after each of his last 11 starts: Jun 15 - 4.26 Jun 10 - 4.34 Jun 5 - 4.81 May 31 - 4.72 May 25 - 4.74 May 20 - 5.14 May 14 - 5.47 May 9 - 6.55 May 3 - 7.51 Apr 27 - 7.88 Apr 22 - 10.13 Apr 16 - 13.50 Not quite, but it just means he's pitching like he "should" be I guess I missed that one...

Your current HR leader in the Majors is Dan Uggla!
I wouldn't trade Uggla but I guess it depends on what they offer you. I wouldn't sign him to a long term deal. If he keeps this up he'll probably win MVP or come in 2nd and would make close to $10 million next year. Coghlan led the Southern League in errors last time I looked (about a week ago) but other than that I don't know anything about his D but leadign the league in errors is not a good thing. I also don't think it's a given he would OPS .800 at this level.

Calling Shake N' Bake.
We are tied second in the MLB in errors from the catcher posistion. Only 6 more teams have given up more SB Treanor, the one who is supposed to be the great defensive catcher, gets all the blame for the errors and almost all the blame for the stolen bases.

Fish of the Game 6/15
Obvious choice. Mike Rabelo hands down. He called a great game. Yea, but Noly was the one who threw the ball . I know and I agree, Holly, Nolasco gets the credit. I was just messing around.

Marlins history with signing Latin American prospects?
I don't know why the Marlins don't really do it much anymore. It's been productive in the past, brought us Luis Castillo and Miguel Cabrera, two of the best players in franchise history. I mean going after high ceiling top latin america talent, like the domincian pitcher this year. Who could have been the top selection in the draft had he been in the draft. The Miggys of the world, those that you might have to pay a little more to out bid another team for. That type of talent has not being courted since this current ownership took over its a really shame. That is probably your answer. It is 100 times more expensive to sign a player like Skipworth than a 16 y/o kid in San Pedro de Macoris The "can't miss" 16 year olds cost a lot of money and Loria / Beinfest are not willing to spend a lot on Latin American prospects.

The myth(?) of youth.
I've always had a problem trying to quantify why so much emphasis is put on "youth" when it comes to the game. Obiously I see why its better to have Hanley Ramirez playing SS for you rather than Omar Visquel right now, but some people when arguing youth seem to argue it the "wrong way" as far I can tell. Looks at it this way; why is a 22 year old CFer batting .290/.384/.560 with a 10 FRAA better than a 32 year old CFer batting .290/.384/.560 with a 10 FRAA? Even more confusing than that, often times the argue is made that the 22 yeard .290/.384/.560 CFer is better than a .313/.388/.584 32 year old CFer. It not about how young a player is, its about how valuable his play is. Whats the use of having a young stud who's hitting way below average? By the time the guy's hitting is producing the adequate value to the team, he's not that young anymore. Some players pay immediate dividens why they are really young like Hanley, Jose Reyes, and others we could name, but they are the exceptions, not the norms. Of the top 10 OPS+ batters last year, only Upton was under 27 in the AL. In the NL, three of the top 10 were 27 or under, but after that, in the next 20, 13 of the players were 28 and older. The numbers were similar in the AL. Youth has its advantages, the only one that counts being that you have the chance to have the player when he's consistenly providing his max value to the club, at which point history and statistics shows us that the player wont be so young. So is it better to have that 21 year old right now than it is to have that 29 year old right now? The 29 year old is doing right now what the 21 year old is going to perhaps be able to do years later, so why is that better? Thats just the way I see it any, Id appreciate different points of views on the subject. It depends what the time frame is. If you're looking at the present, go with the 32 year old guy who is more productive right now but if you're looking at what they project to do 5 years down the road then go with the 22 year old guy because 5 years down the road the older guy may be over the hill. I find many of the "well he's younger" arguments to be retarded.

Nolasco *ding* (Post Game Thread 6/15)
He was awesome, but there was no reason to leave him in for over 130 pitches. He exceeded his career high by 20 pitches.. 132 vs 112. Fredi does some strange things with the starters. He shouild have taken him out after the 8th.

Calling Shake N' Bake.
Rabelo: .206 BA, .250 OBP, .304SLG 24K's, 6BB Treanor: .248BA, .303 OBP, .305 SLG, 36K's, 9BB With the way they've been hitting, I'd rather have Treanor and his defense out there. Treanor's defense? He has a bad arm and leads the league in errors. We need two new catchers.
