to your point Piazza... here is what I call a good and "easy on the eyes" advertising color requirements. granted they are color specific, but all one color.. it is still so much nicer. look at the difference from the green monster scoreboard advertising to the bullpen advertising... Exactly, it looks so much nicer. Less of an attack on our eyes. If you hadn't of pointed out the advertising on the Monster, I wouldn't of noticed the CVS or WB Mason. I hope they stick with that. Let the color ads be in the programs, and each color coordinated hallway. When you pack that much ad's together, its like ambush marketing and advertising. Eventually, it's annoying. I'd like to go to a ballpark, not a nascar event. I'm sure Loria wants to have a museum of art, but I'm also 99% sure he won't over burden us with it. The ORANGE BOWL letters are a nice touch, as well as the colored concourses and fish tanks. The Outfield thing probably is dead already.

El Penguino- Whats great and unique about this park is what is going to make it stand out against others. Miami is a vibrant city, and the colors in the concourses reflect that. Abandoning the common grey that is in most ballparks should be a welcomed change, and the colors are basic--which will always be somewhat in style. What I like most is the lack of out of place sponsors. One of my biggest gripes today is how much of a mess most stadiums look with 18 different colors everywhere, reminding me of Euro Hockey Jerseys. Limiting the colors of each sponsor to a certain section will eliminate the all out war on your eyes marketing and signage has become in the 21st Century. Does this really look good to anyone? What about the last photo? It's no contest to me. The Willingham trade is news to me, so it didn't even make a blip on most radars. I am sure I would have heard it on ESPN as a throwaway once by now if it mattered. Casual fans only see in the paper the Nationals signed a good player. They don't dig deep enough to see the Blurb about a trade or a Article from the AP saying Dunn agreed to terms with the White Sox. And it matters what casual fans think? Well, die-hards alone don't fill the seats Okay. So you get the casual fans in for a couple of weeks. Casual fans leave when the team begins to suck; which will quickly be the case with the Nationals, as long as the Phillies, Braves, and Marlins are better in '11. Not to mention the Mets who will have a lot of money to spend after the '11 season. If they did this to increase attendance, it's not going to work with their current team. Fans pay to watch winners, and to watch exciting stars. Jayson Werth will not make the Nationals a winner with his massive contract alone, and he's not the typical franchise player that would get a fan excited to come to the ballpark, either. No, but the cynic in you fails to see that Signing a Major Free Agent shows the marginal ones that the Nationals want to compete come October. It also shows the bigger ones they won't be alone and have to face the task of "Saving a Franchise" rather then becoming a part of it. Face it, Werth's signing won't make a big impact on the top tiers- the Tex, Crawfords, Lees- but it will make a effect on the Derrek Lees, Carlos Penas, Orlando Hudsons, and Brandon Webbs. The guys with something to prove or with a bit left in the tank. They want to build up the talent level, and ONE big overpaying signing will bring those fringe stars and marinal improvements heading there way. Right now, they are at the top of the pack for those Marginal guys-- as they are above most average teams in terms of choice of desination. Once Harper and Strasburg come back, I have this sick feeling FA's will take their highest offer from the Nats instead of the lesser contract from the Sox and Yanks. Before Werth, they couldn't even over pay for a FA. Now, they have a fighting chance. Which is what this is all about.

I'm happy Loria is atleast the following: He's had experiance running a team into the ground (Expos) and knows now exactly how not to do it. He has a great business model, which is stay out of the limelight and let his Managers and Employees run a good ship. He has a great sense of when to open his mouth, such as the Delgado signing or this past Winter Meeting when he got the fan base excited that the Marlins were not done shopping. He puts his money where his mouth is when he believes something can put us over the top, (Delgado, Pudge, Vazquez). He doesn't think we are always a player or two away from a World Series or Playoffs, which prevents us from having numerous bad contracts with Hopes and Dreams riding on one Player. And HE FINALLY GOT A STADIUM DEAL DONE, not by holding press conferences and show me sessions (John Henry), not by trying to bully the team and signing bad lease deals with himself (Huizenga) but by bluffing a move (although I wouldn't have blamed him if they did move) and decent negotiations. He put the time in, and got it done with his people, while he stayed out of the papers. He's not Steinbrenner, he's not Henry, he's not Peter Angelos but he's not George Shinn or Time Werner either. He does things his way, and it's worked. When I see the team making this many moves (Trade, FA's, Oranizational Depth) I know we are not joking. We believe were close, and I can't wait to see what our Bullpen Depth and Prospects can bring to us long term (Greinke is a hope). One thing he's said is he wants to go into the new Stadium a World Series Champion. I can't wait to see what else Beinfest and Hill are working on. It would be some opening day!

About 20% inflation per year: Yr / Nominal value / Real value @20% inflation '11 10 8.0 '12 13 8.3 '13 16 8.2 '14 20 8.2 '15 21 6.9 '16 21 5.5 '17 21 4.4 Tot 126 49.5 The current real value of 49.5 million assuming 20% inflation closely follows a realistic guess of what the guy is likely to actually be worth in current dollars right down the line for the entire term of the (ridiculously long) contract. So, it would seem either that the Nats ownership is VERY worried about inflation or they're idiots. Nothing else explains this contract. If they're right (and they might be considering current monetary policy) they could end up with a great bargain instead of looking like fools as they do now. The Nats offered this contract to Werth because they felt in order to get other FA's aboard, they would have to overpay for the first one. In other words, they got tired of coming in second (Texiera, Dunn) and went for broke on the hopes other FA's will notice and want to end up there too. Probably not thinking long term guys like CC, TEX, Crawford, Dunn, but the marginal ones who can make a small difference who just went to other teams who can compete.

Where Becketts game 6 performance against the Yankees? Without Marlins bias, you believe that game was better than the 3 represented? Still vulnerable. Offense isn't much imo, and no bullpen. You don't need a bullpen when your top 4 pitchers could go to the 8th inning every game. You just need a Closer and a Plan B.

I truly believe once the playoffs expand the Marlins will be in it every year. Right now though--- What do you think Admin Beinfest and Michael Hill are doing? After banging their heads on their bedroom walls :banghead, I have a very very good feeling Zach Greinke will be a Marlin by Spring Training. They can't just sit on their hands and watch this. They put alot of effort into the team this year, and I see them getting Greinke for whatever it costs outside of Hanley, JJ, Stanton, and Morrison.

Didn't you know? If you GET FROM the other team enough crap, it will make it seem like WE are getting a great deal simply by the large volume of crap WE are attaining. It would require a 3rd team IMO If they got those guys, every other team would know they have no leverage, and they'd get sh*t in return. Being left with them isn't a bad thing. Nunez can step into the Closers role, and they can finally unload soria for the prospects they have been holding out for. Nolasco can step into the Greinke role, partially---until the trade deadline, when a team is desperate for an arm.

Because that's a terrible package that won't save them any money, doesn't give them any impressive specs with upside? They're not a contender next year. Nolasco and Nunez will absolutely not be desirable to them. There's a 0% chance this happens without AT LEAST Dominguez or Morrison ++++++ I see them reflipping Nunez and Nolasco to COL and TEX to be honest, trying to maximize their prospects quantity. Prediction: Yanks outbid Texas for Cliff Lee. Desperate, Texas overpays in prospects to KC for Greinke. Alternate prediction: Texas outbids Yanks for Cliff Lee. Desperate, Yanks finds way (using 3rd team) to secure Greinke's services. I don't see any scenario (short of dangling Stanton) that we get Greinke. Either the Yanks or the Rangers will be desperate enough after losing Cliff Lee that they will outbid any package we'd realistically put together. And, besides, we are in no position to pick up a guy who's headed for a $100M payday in the near future. We'd be giving away too much talent just to rent Greinke for a year. Unless we're one SP away from a WS title (which we are decidedly not), then the FO cannot trade away a player with Stanton's upside. There is never a situation where you can trade someone with Stantons upside. The only way I see Stanton being moved is if he somehow fails as a Prospect and becomes a Jeremy Burnitz or Mo Vaughn,. Even if he underdevelops his bat and never gets close to Pujols, a Adam Dunn like clone is still highly likely to be kept. Isn't Greinke signed for 11 and 12 too? I see the Marlins having the prospects outside of Stanton and Morrison to get it done--but I don't know if they will considering the 100 million it'll take to keep him soon. I see any deal contingent on a extension. With any team. I also see the Marlins wanting to make a big splash for the new ballpark and getting him and a big time free agent before 2012.
