  1. Andrew Miller pitched a heck of game till the latter innings, and Hanley came up big. "Why am I suprised" Great game! Go Fish 7 hits including 2 homers , also lucky for the wild pitch when it happened
  2. Volstad needs to keep the ball down if he want's to constantly win ball games. Good Nights for Cody and Johnny Bake, rest of the lineup not so much. Hanley ends the RBI streak and we are out of 1st place. Have to win the next 2. Two bad pitches up hurt bad. When the ball was down he had 6 groundouts and could been 7 if Uggla turns the easy double play.

  4. My FOTG vote goes to the bullpen. Not necessarily because they had a good day, but because the bullpen went 5.2 today and we won. Hanley and Cody both had very good games as well. We PWN the Nats. Yeah the pen held them. Plus Badenhop saved Johnson 2 inherited runners which can kill a starters ERA. Volstads really been hurt by inherited runners scoring.
  5. Sean West hasn't been that great, but he's better than most 5th starters out there. Until we can replace him with a solid and dependable arm, he stays. Yeah West has been very fortunate this year but I would not trade him. He's practically the only good prospect we have. To give him more seasoning and to delay his arb clock they will move him down soon and go with Anibal or maybe bring up Vandenherk to replace him.
  6. I hate playing Pittsburgh. Despite how inept their team is against anyone else, they're almost never out of a game against us. We can take San Fran, Washington, and Arizona. Of the remaining 4 series before the allstar break, Wash and Arizona are easier than Pittsberg and San Fransisco, by their records and Nolasco, Johnson and West should pitch to 1 harder and 2 easier ones, so they should do good, Miller 1 harder and 1 easier and Volstad will have the tougher time with 2 harder and 0 easier. Just the way the scheduling works
  7. Pinto isn't trash. When his concentration is there he's very good. He just seems to lack that concentration at times. Like the blown call, after that he was lost. He gets paid to do this. Concentration is not an issue, he's walked plenty of batters before today and at times has been lucky to get out of the jams he gets himself in to and the 1.50 WHIP speaks for itself. Hanleys homer luckily just got Johnson off the hook befor the bullpen blew it
  8. So you say Andrew Miller is better than Volstad? I think, in a battle of upsides, Miller wins... as of right now, it's still close though Miller seems to have figured things out pretty nicely. And he has the capability of being other-worldly once he gets comfortable. Volstad is a good pitcher but he doesn't have dominant stuff. To me only Johnson has dominant stuff. Volstads sinker , curve and change are very good but at just 22 hes learning to be consistent.
  9. Ricky 2.0 has been awesome. He's exactly what the Marlins have needed to turn things around. If Volstad and West rebound a bit we are in pretty good shape rotation wise. Volstad already has
  10. I have to say, I am incredibly impressed with Sean West thus far. Incredibly? 5+ inns with 4 er and 4 walks is not good. Lucky to get the win. Run support is the great saver for pitchers.
  11. For the first time in his career, Chris Volstad allowed more than 4 earned runs. He had allowed 4 runs four times in his 28 games. Today he gave up 6 earned runs to the Cardinals Is having a game like this good for his development or is it a setback? He's needs to regain that command he had last year as he is leaving plenty of pitches up usually because he is behind in the count. Did you see has last two starts prior to tonight? Yeah they were great starts and could easily have been both wins instead of both losses. This was his first game after 27 starts with over 4 earned runs. The kid is awesome.
  12. Called the Walk off by Hermida in the top of the ninth inning. Glad he didn't dissapoint. Thanks for that, the Marlins fans appreciate this! I predict Volstad will pitch a no-hitter tomorrow. Stay tuned. Pujols is 0-16? He crushed one off Johnson to the deepest part of the park for an out? Is he ever due . Volstad look out youre very unlucky so far this year A Homerun Hitter vs a pitcher who has given up 12 Homeruns this season does not look so good. Hopefully he's smart and hits his spors especially with the curves. last night Santana gave up FOUR home runs in the game and still got the win?? Must be nice.

  14. Our pitching is much improved but I'd still like to see more progress with the offense. How many did we leave on base this series? LOB isn't a indicator of anything. Teams who score tons of runs usually leave tons of guys on base and teams that are terrible can also leave tons of guys on base. LOB basically means nothing in the big picture. More importantly, we were only 7-35 with RISP. And 2 of those 7 resulted in no runs as Cantu had to be held at third and did not eventually score.
  15. love this quote from west after last nights game: "I try to throw a no-hitter every start," West said. "If a hit comes up, I try to throw a one-hitter. If two hits come up, I try to throw a two-hitter, and so on." This quote has been used by many pitchers in the past
  16. west is last season's volstad, if not better. No wayyy too early yet
  17. I agree with Erick. I'm still not sold on West and Miller. I would feel alot more confident If Nolasco goes back to his 2008 form. I agree also. West had a great game tonight but struggled last time so its way too early to tell
  18. good improvement by ricky and we can thank bonifacio for not making the routine play that cost us the game. i knew that if uggla didnt get on wilson would close it......cant beleive he had him 3-0 and got him. it seems like every game now is by 1 run. typical marlins. Improvement by Ricky? They loaded the bases four times and he lucked out to strand them three times. On a normal night, this would have been a drubbing. He got lucky. Plain and simple. Very true 6 doubles and guys out at home could have been 6 or 7 to 2 easily
  19. we lucky at the end Millers lucky too . both his wins were 5 innings for him and then the bullpen barely hangs on for the win
  20. Here is a good point from Frisaro on Twitter: Marlins are 4th in NL in runs scored. Yet, when they don't score a key run, the argument is they have a low payroll. Not buying $$$ excuse. We are 4th best in NL in runs scored? And Volstad is near the bottom in baseball in run support? That makes his tough luck even uglier
  21. Nice job hitting with RISP tonight. And, as usual, Volstad gets no run support. Another quality start and another loss about the most tough luck pitcher around actually zito has more "tough luck" than volstad.... MLB TV said tonight that after this game Zito now has a 2.45 avg run support per game the 2nd worse in baseball. Volstad has 12 starts and I think 29 runs scored while he pitched which is 2.41 so he must now be the unlucky leader. Might be wrong
  22. Nice job hitting with RISP tonight. And, as usual, Volstad gets no run support. Another quality start and another loss about the most tough luck pitcher around actually zito has more "tough luck" than volstad.... Not tonight he didnt he was in trouble a lot in this game

  24. It's extremely frustrating to get a good pitching performance from Volstad and lose like this. Cantu looked completely lost at the plate today. His AB in the 8th was just terrible. With only one out and a man at third, that run had to come in- no excuses. Another quality start from Volstad wasted. Between swinging bunts and a bloop double and another infield bunt and a great 14 go/ 4 ao game he just cant get any breaks.
  25. The "Bust"! But another great start for JJ His numbers don't look gaudy (lack of wins), but I'd be disappointed to see JJ not earn an all-star bid if he turns in another solid month. He's pitched well enough to win in every start this year that I can remember. He had one bad outing only...JJ is a superstud! Why were David Wright Luis Castillo and Gary Sheflied out of the lineup Saturday Sure made it easier for Johnson.
