  1. At least we SHOULD even the series tonight with JJ Not if the offense puts up a fat 0 again
  2. Great run support again for Volstad .. not!
  3. Nolasco makes me nervous. 2 more homers and his 4.90 ERA goes up but guts it out and actually gets the win. The player of the game goes to the offense even though its the terrible Orioles. His home runs need to stop. Sweep.
  4. I thought Fox had a 3 run homer against Tank in the 7th..very fortunate it wasnt 6-6 then. Several hard hit balls off Anibal but they hit them at people and the defense was great especially Cody. We should sweep against this crummy 19-51 team.
  5. Forget luck, we have terrible fielding, our pitchers cant field either, we have terrible plate discipline, and we cant get from the 7th to the 9th while holding a lead and our starting rotation has been solid but also somewhat inconsistent. So no, we arent unlucky, we just dont have a very good team. According to fan graphs Nolasco has 3 errors, Johnson has 3 errors, Robertson has 2 errors Sanchez has 1 error and Volstad has 0 errors. The infielders seem to make too many errors. Plate discipline is weak and our bullpen needs to step it up. Even though Vandenhurk got roughed up last night and Badenhop gave up all 3 inherited runners again those two seem like the best options
  6. Imagine if Boston would've given us what we supposedly wanted. Josh Johnson and Jon Lester in the same rotation would've been really nice. To answer the question, the Marlins shouldn't really trade Anibal right now. SP is thin; nothing is certain on this team after Josh Johnson. You never have enough pitching. Ricky Nolasco's regression is not helping the cause, either. Chris Volstad gives solid outings. Yeah Volstads a solid #3 right now and only 23 years old. In acouple more years with more experience he'll become a #2. Hes had a lot of bad luck ( a run scored on an infield sac fly? and another on a passed ball called a wild pitch? and another on a ball that Paulino misjudges that allows a runner to score that would have been out by 10 feet? and many double plays not turned that lead to earned runs?) and many inherited runners scoring and poor run support. Hes a long way from an experienced pitcher but doing very well for the Marlins
  7. Nolascos having a real problem with all these home runs this year. Needs to keep the ball down. Robertson did great. Glad to see Coughlin turning it around
  8. will jj be only one get 15 win of marlins pitching staff???? and only one gave us must wins? With reasonable run support Volstad could have 6 wins by now. Johnson seems to get the must wins and is clutch.
  9. I know this is supposed to be all, "OMG Stanton," but does anyone else feel that Volstad does not deserve to be 3-6??? He hasn't pitched that poorly and it seems whenever he goes up to pitch he gets no run support. Very true. Even Conine said during the Brewers game that Volstad could easily be 6-3 instead of 3-6. Run support has been horrible while he pitches so instead of maybe getting no decisions at the worst he gets losses while throwing quality starts
  10. How would I feel if Johnson got screwed like that by the umpire? Just the same if it was Sanchez, Volstad, Nolasco or Robertson.
  11. Right when Jays fans finally had hope of catching the Rays.. In the 9th inning 2 outs, HOW CAN SOMEONE SUCK THAT MUCH?! WTF!! Y
  12. Ronny comes through with the big 2 out hit to barely give Ricky the win. Ronnys been clutch several times. This year its Nolasco with the problem with home runs and it's troubling. Can the offense come through tomorrow facing Milwaukees best pitcher? That will be a great test.
  13. The Marlins need one other guy getting on base above .350 in the leadoff spot (in addition to Gaby hitting second). I think that will jump start the offense. Hey all, visiting Brewers fan here. What I fear is that our pitching is what will jump start your offense. They did it for the Braves as well as others. Too bad for you that Bush is pitching the 3rd game, because I see him getting lit up. Maybe you'll roll after that though. Bush 5.05 ERA is pitching the 2nd game against Nolasco not the 3rd and he probably will get lit up for an easy win for the Marlins.
  14. I'm glad I came back to Sun Life today after last games loss and it's been a pleasure to watch Anibal pitch as well as he has this season. He has shown stellar composure with men on base which shows with his 2.89 ERA even with a WHIP of 1.30 and he's been the true # 3 guy this year. If he and J.J. keep dominating along with success from Nolasco, Volstad and Robertson this team will be well over .500 whenever the offense gets back to form. Dont you mean Sanchez has been the true #2 guy ? Hes been pitching great. All Volstad needs is run support which has been terrible--which he probably wont get again as hes facing Milwaukees ace Yovanni Gallardo next. . Nolasco should improve his 4.65 ERA .
  15. Congrats to Halladay. The Marlins website says Johnson was as dominant as Halladay. 7 hits in 7 inns to 0 hits in 9 inns and 11 k's to 6 k's is not the same dont make me laugh. Johnson pitched good but he had base runners almost every inning. The offense scores no earned runs for the second night in a row. This year the starters are great and the bats stink. Stanton up and Coughlin down . We need step it up NOW.
  16. Volstad is so unlucky its unbelievable. Another quality start loss after an inherited run scores. 4 inherited runners this year so far and 3 scored. Pitiful run support again. The offense doesnt score late in the game again. Hanleys probably hitting under .200 when Volstad is on the mound. The weak opposing pitcher pitches lights out again no earned runs. This team is to inconsistant to contend. Sad when you pitch well and keep losing again and again. Robertson got screwed out of a win too. This team better turn it around fast. Volstad was at 115 pitches through 6 1/3 innings. Its not like he pitched bad or he deserved to get the loss, but I don't believe that wins and losses are entirely based on luck. If Volstad had been a little more efficient, then he would have been able to go longer in the game and wouldn't have another pitcher letting in an inherited run cost him. To reiterate, he didn't pitch poorly, but to get the win in some games it requires more. He gave up 3 runs, it would have been irrelevant if the Marlins had gotten more than half of what a team gets on average. Yeah I think the Marlins have scored 5 runs in Volstads last 4 starts and according to fangraphs 28 for his 10 starts so far. Thats why hes 3-6 record. Could easily be 6-3 instead. Just cant even get a no-decision at all. Compared to the Marlins scoring an amazing 59 runs for Johnson in his 10 starts this year. Wins and losses are not entirely on luck I agree but mostly they are.
  17. 18. Lack of run support and bad defense has caused 3 of Volstads 5 losses and ruined some quality starts. Our offense needs to pick it up or the quality starts losses will continue for a long year. With this team if the starter avoids a loss hes lucky.
  19. So far this year now its Ricky with the home run problem 9 starts and 9 home runs.
  20. Since Hanleys game of lazy kickball the starters have thrown 17 straight innings without giving up a run.
  21. Lets see, the offense scores 7 runs for Nolasco, 7 runs for Johnson for easy wins and 0 runs for Volstad. What do the baseball gods have against Volstad? The inconsistency of the offense is a problem hope it gets better.
  22. While Hanley dogs and dings, the Marlins fall 5-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. W: Edwin Jackson (2-5) L: Chris Volstad (3-4) Coghlan, Ross, and Cantu all had 2 hits, but everyone else had an 0fer. Edwin Jackson struck out 12 over 8 innings, while scattering 4 hits and walking just 2. Chris Volstad struggled to a 5 IP, 4 R (3 ER) performance. At least he only walked 1. 2 earned runs. They took him out for a pinch hitter and couldnt pitch the 6th or it probably would have been another quality start. "Struggled?"
  23. Cogz is my FOTG easily. Like people above me said, his 3-run HR was the deciding factor. Also, can someone tell me why Cody Ross was charged with an error for that throw? Why couldn't the official scorer ruled that the runner just advanced to 2nd on the throw? I don't get why he had to get an error, especially because it wasn't a bad throw at all. I asked myself the same question. I believe the reason was becase the runner advanced to second because of the throw. Thats ridiculous. Cody is being blamed for being an aggressive outfielder there. That was a bad error call on Codys throw. The runner clearly advanced to second on the throw home. This bad call did allow Ricky to get lucky and get away with the 3rd run being charged as an unearned run when it should have been earned.
  24. Here's why we owe our starting pitching a big thanks... Florida (17-18) has won three of four despite batting .214 and averaging 3.0 runs. Yeah if the scorekeeper had'nt screwed Volstad with that "wild pitch" the starters would have had 12 or so straight quality starts. They are doing great The offense needs to wake up.
