June 26, 201016 yr Win 3 lose 2....wow weve never seen that before. volstad cruises and then falls apart.....wait as per usual.....he just cant go an outing without giving up at least 2-3 runs. well i guess just about every other team is going to gain on us tonight. at least veras was good. oh and wes helms continues to be f***ing useless as a pinch hitter.

He was fine, he was decent enough. Volstad wouldnt have been a problem today if we actually had an offense.

Bench and bullpen need to improve... Kept Helms got rid of Gload, Added a bunch of crappy relievers, got rid of Arthur Rhodes
June 26, 201016 yr How did Veras look? I missed all of the game from the sixth on but from what I caught on the radio it seemed Veras did well. How did he look either at Sun Life or on TV? I see he pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings, I know he threw one pitch to the backstop, caught that, but just looking at his line is appears he had a good outing. Or did he?

He was better than the Veras we saw in April but still nothing spectacular. He threw six straight balls at one point but overall he had better command than his previous outings.
June 26, 201016 yr This time sure finds new and exciting ways to kill its own momentum. Still, even if we lose tomorrow, we will still have a .500 week, which I guess isn't too bad. Though I prefer Jack McKeon's philosophy of winning one game over .500 each week. So let's get that win tomorrow.
June 26, 201016 yr Unrelated and related at the same time, Tom Mastny started again tonight throwing five innings of shut out ball for the second time in four starts (and 6 IP in his other two yielding 2 runs in each) and Armando Benitez pitched a scoreless inning for the second night in a row earning his first save

June 26, 201016 yr Same exact team we have seen the previous 4 years dating back to 06. Its not going to change gents, teams dont just all of a sudden start playing like a team that they are not. Thisis what they are, an around .500...maybe even a little over and thats about the extent of it. I dont know what the shock is. There has not been a single upgrade or addition made to this team since Girardi took over in 06. Not a single one, everything is the same if not a little worse because ofthe bullpen. This is what you get

There hasn't been any significant upgrades brought in and they've remained the same free swinging, crappy defense playing, decent but not good enough to make the playoffs team.
June 26, 201016 yr Willingham isn't here, Coghlan is. Hermida isn't here, Stanton is. Mike Jacobs and Lindstrom aren't here, Gaby Sanchez and Nunez are, The list goes on.. Making up arguments with no basis in fact are easy. But in the end they're worthless. How many threads and posts did we have about how cheap or poor judgementally the organization was for letting Kiko Calero go, it seemed like fifty posts a day berating ownership or management for month after month but now the whole world knows what the Marlins already knew, his freaking shoulder is a minefield waiting to explode. Or how cheap we were for not re-signing Nick "The Stick" Johnson and how smart the Yankees were except oh my goodness Nick has spent the season on the 15 and 60 DLs and when he was playing hit about fifty points less than his weight. But i guess some here think that Cashman got it right signing him for $5.5 million this season and we're the fools. For years the fan's cried for some stability from their Marlins teams and now they are beginning to see it, Johnson and Ramirez signed, paying Dan Uggla $8 million rather than shipping him out and big raises to a number of other players who until now have been fanbase favorites, in Ross and Cantu and others. You wrote "...There has not been a single upgrade or addition made to this team since Girardi took over in 06. Not a single one, everything is the same if not a little worse because o fthe bullpen..." and that's a *fabrication*, but you knew it was lie when you posted it but you did it anyways.

Faces have changed but his statement is still true, in a sense. It's still the same team that sucks at defense and strikes out 458734587485 times. Coghlan, Stanton, and Sanchez are all home grown guys that are still cheap. Yeah, they signed Hanley "long-term" and now JJ (because MLB yelled at them), but their business model still seems to be "Try to be as cheap as possible and HOPE to win." No key offseason free agent pickups, just mid-season trades for guys that are cheap rentals. I hope I'm wrong, but I can very easily see this team becoming like the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers, who don't make the playoffs for multiple decades.
June 26, 201016 yr it isn't true at all, and being a long-time poster this argument is beneath you. I realize everyone's frustrated with the losing lately. Are you guys just waking up from like a 10-year nap or something with the salary stuff? We've been through all this a zillion times and thank you 2003 for having the patience. Coghlan, Stanton, and Sanchez are all home grown guys that are still cheap. what does that even mean?! those are all good players!! who gives a flying crap what they make? I don't suppose LoriaPleaseSell with his clever name and 7 posts will stick around though.
June 26, 201016 yr At least we SHOULD even the series tonight with JJ Not if the offense puts up a fat 0 again
June 26, 201016 yr Last night is like a lot of games lately. We get enough hits, but not enough in a row to score runs. The Padres had 8 hits; we had 7 yet they had 3 runs. Like others have said poor Volstad pitches a good game but no one scores runs for him. Or half axx attempts catching the balls. "lollygate" :confused
