f*** Fowler W: Sanchez (1-1) L: Chacin (3-1) 2B: E Bonifacio (3) HR: G Sanchez (2); C Coghlan (2) Seriously, a f***ing Marlins pitcher will throw a no-hitter this year. And watch it be Volstad Volstad couldn't throw three innings of no hit ball He has many times

Tough luck from the bullpen for Volstad . Swinging bunt, a soft hit and hit batter lead to all 3 of his inherited runs scoring. Volstad pitched much better than his line. Only 4 hits and 5 strikeouts in 5+ inns. Too many walks though the only bad thing. Did foxtracks show the pitches? Perhaps he should consider going the full six against a mediocre lineup next time. Plus, 3 walks in 5.1 innings + more flyball outs than groundball outs. If anything, he was lucky the offense supported him enough to get a win. No 5 ground outs and 4 fly outs The bullpen really let him down ESPN says 6 fly outs, but whatever. And it's partially his fault for putting the runners on base, in the first place. The pen also had some sh*tty luck in that inning as well, for what it's worth. The two hits were garbage. True. Though the sh*tty luck and hit batter affects Volstads ERA bad and not the bullpen. The walks were bad

Rotation Change
Bad news is there is no game today. Good news is there's now a doubleheader on my birthday. Finally, the Marlins may actually WIN on my B-Day! Edwin does not trust Vazquez or he's working on his mechanics or something like that and needs some more days. As stated by Admin in his article on this site's front page, Edwin did this to try and keep the rotation on normal rest for the most part. Skipping Volstad and giving Vazquez more rest played a big part in it, but it's more to keep guys like JJ and Ricky active. Admin's article corrections---if Sanchez pitches tomorrow he will have 5 days rest if he pitches on Friday not 4 days, Volstad was originally scheduled to pitch tomorrow not Tuesday, if Ricky pitches Wednesday he will have 6 days rest not 5 days. Vasquez ERA 7.43 Sanchez ERA 6.97 Volstad ERA 5.59 are ALL struggling this year. Nolasco ERA 4.09 is OK for him I guess .I only feel great about Johnson

Where is Sanabia?
I want to know where this guy is at? I really have little confidence in Volstad anymore And you have confidence in Sanchez ERA 6.97 and Vasquez ERA 7.43 ???????

Where is Sanabia?
I like Sanabia, but he's being treated like a friggin' savior to the rotation. Which hes not

Vasquez was getting hit hard. Many deep fly balls near the wall. He'll be gone after this year.

4/14 Post Game
Nolasco was lucky to give up only 5 runs tonight and not get the loss. He has pitched some great games and several bad ones. Volstad has pitched some great games and several bad ones. They both have almost identical career ERA's. Nolasco is 4 years older and you would think he would be more consistant with all that more experience by now. Anibal and Vasquez both have very high ERA's now. Cogs great catch saved a win from a loss for Sanches and the Marlins. This team gives you a headache.

4/13 - Florida Marlins @ Atlanta Braves
Hudson the ace is pitching worse than Volstad did last night

4/10 Post Game
Can't win them all, but I wish anibal pitched better than that. It wasn't a good start, but it really was just one of those days where the balls always landed where they needed to be hits. It wasn't like he was leaving pitches up and just getting shelled, many of the hits were ones that just fell in or got through. Thats typical of a lot of hits Volstad gives up too.

4/8 Post Game
I'm surprised at Ricky pitching more to contact this year, and K'ing less hitters. I don't know if his success will hold up, doing that. 2 starts. you're suggesting it's deliberate? It's not deliberate. Batters except for pence in tonights game are learning to lay off his many out of the strike zone sliders. We won because the defense played good. Great pitchout call by the coaches to end the game.

4/7 Post Game
Our scorekeeper generously ruled that the speedy Desmond would not have scored from second (had he been there instead of third due to Bucks error) on Zimmermans hit (Bonis arm is such a weapon!) to change an earned run to an unearned run for Johnson. With Murphys terrible throw allowing an obviously out Ankiel to be safe at home the night before, why wasnt that an error on Murphy and an unearned run for Volstad? Then the two extra "earned" runs that scored after Murphys miscue? Volstads ERA got royally screwed. Two of his four walks were on the terrible umpire Tim Tschida (is that pronounced "cheater"?) :Livan had five walks and he got screwed too.

Coghlan in CF
Hes doing great so far. His miracle catch royally saved Anibals ERA and his game.

4/7 Post Game
every inning from the 8th through 10th i kept getting more and more pissed off. everytime you dont score in extras you play with fire and we had several chances to win and we didnt. eventually someone is going to hang a pitch and there you go. im really f***ing pissed off how we can come back from 4-0 and back volstad but cant win for johnson who would have gone at least 7 had hanley the genius not botched back to back plays. *how interesting that the difference in the game is the 2 unearned runs. if the majority of losses are like our 3 so far its going to be one painful year. The Marlins did come back for Johnson and got him off the hook for the loss. Volstad would have gone 7 last night too except for all the miscues.

I had to vote for Buck. 1) his clutch 3 run triple. 2) have to give him some of the credit for the pitching, which was good (even Volstad). BTW, love the bullpen, though Leo scares the sh*t out of me. Volstad pitched good enough to win the umpire messed him up and bad defense cost him 2 runs in the second inning and the error in the fourth another run. Bullpen did great again. Oh I know that. without the defensive miscues, Volstad gives up only 1 run and goes deeper into the game. From what I saw today, I hope he comes out and does the same exact thing next start, and I guarantee he'll go 7 and get the win. Only issue with him today was walks. Unfortunately, though, as a pitcher sometimes you have to deal with defensive blunders, and Volstad has to be able to shake those off and go after the next guy and get the next guy. He hasn't done well in picking his team up when they screw up. The defensive blunder cost him two earned runs and a quality start since he had to come out early a defensive wonder saved Anibal two earned runs a 4 run turnaround big difference. Volstad and Anibal seem to have good poise.

Chris Coghlan's fully extended outfield catch got #1 Webgem of the night on Baseball Tonight Yeah Anibal owes him a steak dinner for saving those two extra runs that would have scored.

Spring Training Starters
Starters spring training ERA's Johnson 4.95, Nolasco 8.40, Vasquez 4.57, Sanchez 1.89, Volstad 5.30. Sanchez looked great all spring.

Big Four in Florida?
call me crazy, but i liked the way that chris volstad was pitching in the 2nd half...a better bullpen will make the starters look good...so will actually playing defense...im ready for a good year...and who knows...maybe my cousin makes his debut in florida...or at the sox...oh god that would be sweet and bittersweet at the same time Your not crazy at all. I agree Our entire rotation will be great

Volstad to SEE a Good Season?
Ohh, is THAT why he gave up so many home runs? He only gave up 17 home runs this year. Your confusing him with Nolasco That is not good and barely acceptable, especially combined with the 29 the year before in 159 IP. ^^ This man gets it. 17 homers in 175 inns. this past year is good and better than barely acceptable. 2009 as a 22 year old was a learning experience and he did learn. Nolasco 157 inns and 24 homers this past year is unacceptable esp at his salary level.
