Willis is a starter. He was last year and he is this year. If someone just put Pavano in the pen through his early career struggles, we wouldn't be talking about him right now. Nobody talked about Gagne UNTIL he want to the pen. Why does everyone think this is some sort of gulag? Wouldn't it be nice to have someone who could come in real early in case a starter implodes? or give a reliable 3 inning bridge when our "throwers" are spent before the 5th is over? Gagne went into the pen because he was downright terrible as a starter. Willis has had a few bad games like any other young pitcher. He doesn't have an above 5.00 ERA. His ERA is 3.50 and he's 5-3. That's good for your number 4 starter. You can't have 5 aces. The bullpen will get better. Just who do you expect to replace him in the rotation? If you've got a solid 2-3 inning long guy and a drop dead closer, I see no need for a 5 man rotation. The whole idea is so they can get their beauty rest, but for the majority of them the extra day doesn't seem to be extending their durability to any great degree. If someone needs an extra day you can always do a patchup game. Your right but the 2-3 inning guy couldnt pitch every day. IMO he was the rookie of the year as a starter, we usualy win when he pitches (although i think the marlins have a losing record when he pitches, but he is 5-3 which meens when he leaves the game most of the time the teams has a better chance to win than lose) The fact is we do have 5 aces beckett penny burnett pavano and willis would all be the aces for the reds, tigers, royals, indians, texas, tampa bay, milwaukee(Sheets is having a good year though) pittsburgh, colorado and maybe baltimore (i think theyre all ebtter then the overrated ponson)
