  1. Why did Gonzales wait until the end of the inning? If you are going to really make a point, you send Barden onto the field immediately. If Hanley can't or won't hustle on the field, why wait? There's shortstop at Jacksonville that's hitting the ball really well.
  2. I was being facetious. People are idiots. Good thing you aren't one of them.
  3. Goodness sakes. Nobody hates or dislikes Cameron Maybin. I just dislike that he is playing for the Marlins. And it is trolling to believe that Mike Stanton will be the best Marlin hitter this season? What reason is there NOT to believe it. His time has come.
  4. Maybin just isn't going to make it. Better to admit it now than continue the .300 OBP any longer. The strikeout rate for a non-power hitter are unacceptable as well. Trade him to the Pirates. It isn't as if the Marlins are lacking for options. Ross is a better center fielder and a mediocre (not awful) hitter. Stanton was the best hitter on the team in spring training, the best hitter in their minor league system now, and will likely be the best hitter on the varsity .... this year. Bring him up now. These games mean as much as the ones in September.
  5. I have given up on Maybin. Chisel it in stone.
  6. Four starts for Jacksonville for the 22 year old pitcher ... WHIP under 1.00, a stikeout an inning, ERA under 1.00 in about 27 innings. While he doesn't appear in any list of top Marlin prospects, he's showing more talent than the pitchers that do ...
  7. 22 year old pitcher has started four times for the Suns this season, after spending last year at Jupiter and going 9-5. He's basically given up nothing ... less than 1 h/w per inning and an era under 1.00 while striking out a hitter an inning. It may be early for Sanabia, but if the Marlins need a pitcher soon ... and they likely will ... he's doing a lot better in AA than any of the current staff ever did. He is not listed among any of the top team prospects.
  8. Stanton: Six homers in sixty at bats. Batting avg. over .300. 16 walks and 17 strikeouts. Time for AAA.
  9. Stanton on Saturday night: 1-3 with two walks and two runs, no strikeouts. Overall, 6-10 with 2 hr and no k's. Heyward thus far: .300 BA with 2 hr and 6 rbi. Both totals would lead Marlins.
  10. Funny thing ... you posted Heyward's numbers ... and they looked just like Maybin, Ross and Coghlan numbers ... except of course Heyward has homered and they have not.
  11. I may be a clown, but Stanton is in my outfield right now. You've got Maybin.
  12. What's with all the beating around the bushes? 1) Of course none of us is the Marlin GM. The proof of that is that Pinto is in the bullpen. 2) I believe that Stanton is the most dangerous hitter in the Marlin organization RIGHT NOW. Who do you sit? Coghlan? Maybin? Ross? Who cares? Cut cards. Stanton needs to be in the Marlins lineup. PS: Hanley never hit for squat in the minors. PSS: Oohhh, Jayson Heyward. PSSs: Ooohhh, people in the stands at Dolphins stadium in the summertime. How do these AA numbers strike you? In 2005 at Portland, in 122 games and 465 at bats, Hanley hit .271 with 6 hr and 52 rbi's. He was thrown out stealing once every three attempts. That was Hanley's last year in the minors. If you were waiting for Hanley's minor league numbers, he'd still be there.
  13. Pinto is worse than herpes.
  14. Stanton at Jacksonville in the opener. 3-4 with homerun and double.
  15. Congratulations to Tim Wood on making the team and earning his first Major League save last night. He looked great.
  16. Thoughts: 1) Can't believe that there is some defensiveness about Sanchez and his failure to stretch for throws ... it's inexcuseable, period. It's like failing to run out a ground ball or pop up. 2) Using Stanton's numbers from the minor league last year do not translate to his current ability to perform. He hit well in spring training and off some very good pitchers. His strikeout rate was a lot lower than some of the Marlin starters. His power potential is a lot higher. Having him in the outfield right now would give the Marlins a better chance of winning.... see the Atlanta Braves and Heyward.
  17. Is there someone out there that thinks Maybin is a better player than Mike Stanton, right now?
  18. Well, Maybin's asset is speed and he doesn't steal bases. A bad sign. No way I would have him in center field. I like Cody Ross in center, personally. Stanton would be in right field right now. The homerun off the Marlins' very best hurler, Nolasco, should have constituted his diploma from the minors. Johnson stunk it up on the mound, much as he did all spring. Predictable. I would have traded him to Texas for one of their good, young (and cheap) pitchers and Nelson Cruz, who would be playing left field for the Marlins right now. Coghlan would be at second base, where he belongs, and would be signed long term right now. I would never have kept Uggla. I like the way Sanchez approaches things at the plate, but the first base defense was unacceptable. .. notably the failure to stretch for the ball. I haven't see a first baseman stand straight up to take a throw since Little League. Paulino didn't quite come through at the plate yesterday, but I really like him and the whole catching platoon situation. The bullpen will be disappointing all season.
  19. NOW, you can worry. The Marlins lost to the METS!
  20. I don't think the offense is sharp at all and I don't believe the Marlins will get it going at the start of the season, so that definitely worries me. The pitching always worries me, but this year more than anticipated.
  21. I'm worried about the 1, 3, 4, and now 5 spots in the rotation (with the addition of Robertson). Nolasco looks really good. Johnson seems very iffy to me, sorry. Sanchez looks downright shakey. Volstad lost my faith last season. Hensley I was excited about. Now, Robertson. And I'm not nearly as confident about the offense as many seem to be.
  22. What in the world is he doing wearing a major league uniform? And one that says Florida Marlins no less?
  23. Stanton was the best and most productive hitter for the Marlins in spring training ... thus the reference to the best hitter on the Marlins right now. If you figure "right now" should mean last year or the year before, okeydoke.
