  1. As much as I hate Tony LaRussa,he is a baseball legend.. those guys don't grow on trees. You don't find managers like that midseason. I hope like hell that Ozzie gets fired this offseason and the fish get him I think we should all hope for the White Sox to implode the rest of the season There has been a big rift between Kenny Williams and Ozzie as the season goes on.. you can tell that Williams is distancing himself from Ozzie.. something he hasn't done in the past. It will not surprise me in the least to see him get canned at the end of the season.. which will make me a very happy man. How "good" is Ozzie? I only really read about him when he says something "naughty."
  2. Is there a website that breaks down when we commit errors, in terms of innings? Would be interesting to see how many Es the Marlins have in the 7-9 innings.
  3. Apparently, 8 times in a JJ start has he left the game with a lead and saw the BP blow the game. Hair pulling. So he should be 19-5. What happened to the good string of closers we had? From 04-07 we had guys that ended up being awesome closers for us. You could even say 2003. Looper / Urbina Benitez Jones Borowski Gregg [after he took over - if I remember] Then 08 til now? What happened? Gregg faltered Lindstrom was it? Nunez WHAT HAPPENED? Through my nostalgic, hazy memory, it also seems like our closer fold in the late months, when the playoff pressure starts to mount (at least for us fans). They fall apart in July/August/September Then again, I remember Lindstrom not looking too good against the Phils at the beginning of last season too.

  5. It just seems when the team unravels, it epically unravels.
  6. Didn't Edwin say a few weeks ago that he was going to keep a close eye on Nunez?
  7. i think a smart choice by the team and i am inclined to agree with them. people are talking out of their asses and dont see the big picture that even with that 49 million we are still 106 million short to fund our end of the stadium on top of all of the other cash it takes to run a franchise. Agreed, people are talking out of their a$ on this one and should leave the explaining of the statements to finance professionals... I happen to work in corporate finance and have read the financial statements... One thing is a clear fact, Samson has not completely truthful in that the team cannot take higher financial position in financing the new ballpark and remain profitable. Jorge Costales (he is a CPA) has written some pretty good blog post on the leaked financial statements http://www.2thinkgood.com/ ... good read for the finance geeks like me.. the DoublePlay consulting company payments are very sketchy but are 100% legal Keep in mind, numbers do not lie... people do, and that these financial statements were never meant to be seen by the public. please explain to me if the statement were not meant to be seen by the public, does that mean their are not truthful, if you have nothing to hide anyone can see them. Because if you do release it, the numbers can be "manipulated" to tell whatever story the media wants...like the Marlins are making a great profit with no debt...like, uh, what happened? Figuratively, sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut then to open it and have someone try to jam your foot in there.
  8. Fisaro remarked that Noalsco's fastball was where it usually is, so no injury-impact there, but speculated that Ricky was hesistant to test that knee. If that's the case, then Ricky should be shut down or at least skip a start. I don't want him pitching "scared." Especially if it ends up like tonight.
  9. Maybin id day-to-day but is confidant that he will be ready for tomorrow, according to Fisaro's Twitter. Dan is one away from 30 HRs!
  10. Nice move by him. Though I wonder if he used the label maker I gave him on those boxes to ID what was in it...
  11. It's just disappointing that we were coming off a 5 game win streak and now we have lost two straight. Not really that bad, and really it depends on tomorrow's game, but it definitely feels like the team is a two-steps forward, two-steps back (with sometimes a bonus step backwards!) sorta group this year.
  12. Helms should hold another team meeting tonight to talk about how much he sucks. Aahahahaha This is an Erick post I've been waiting for! Murphy needs to balls up and just play hurt, him hurt is probably better then Helms 100 % Healthy. Not a great start from J.J. but his defense could've been a lot better behind him. Offense was Solid and Spider Cam came up with 2 solid hits which is a good sign. Now We Have to hear Craig talk about the Mets winning... Where the f*** is my remote! Craig is secretly Mr. Met No way. Mr. Met's head is way smaller.
  13. Talking about financials, is Logan Morrison making a jibe at the organisation in his most recent tweet: This is the longest cab ride of my life. Y don't they put us up n something closer to the field? Bet money is involved some how I think its a jibe, but I think its a pretty generic one. Most employees would complain in that style about accomodations.
  14. Since financials are so hard to understand even with a degree in the field, how one interprets a report like this is going to be heavily influenced by any bias coming in: If you are anti-Loria, you see the recent profits and declare the team profitable in the longterm and that means the team should increase spending (and lower that profit) If you are pro-Loria, you see the loses incurred before those profits and the fact that no business wants to run at a loss rather than a profit and say that Loria has been doing the best he can. What one really should do is to take the profits, take the losses, add them together for total profit for this team since Loria took over then compare that to other teams. So what if the Marlins make X amount of profit if most other teams make X+Y in profit? That means the Marlins, while "making" money, would still be a small market team and can't afford to spend like other teams. If the average profit margin of a MLB team is above the profit margin of the Marlins, then they can't afford to take risks on players, sign them to big deals, because if something happens to the revenue stream (let's say another poor lease or luxury boxes don't sell), then the room for error is less. A friend once said this: "When you play with numbers, all you get are more numbers." It is hard to tell what exactly is going on, and even then, how that relates to MLB as a whole.
  15. Additionally, the team is still competitive, even with a low payroll. Sure, we haven't made the playoffs, but we have been in the thick of the wildcard race going into a few Septembers and it really hasn't made that much of a difference in attendance. We aren't like the O's or the Pirates or The Royals who have had losing season after losing season. Loria and the FO have, for the most part, fielded teams that can win. The Marlins still need to get over the next hump and be a perennial playoff caliber team, but fans need to realize that baseball probably has the hardest postseason to get into and while settling for a .500 or above record shouldn't be the status quo, it still means more than say the Dolphins squeaking into the first round of the playoffs and getting eliminated. Exciting, winning teams don't make it to October sometimes. Is it disappointing? Yes. But that doesn't mean going to a regular season game is depressing or not fun. Believe it or not, I think Loria has built somewhat of a foundation of winning here, by which I mean in the regular season. We've had more winning seasons under his reign than under Huizenga and Henry combined. That is a great first step in building longterm legitimacy. It is just a shame that some fans are "Playoffs or Bust" and won't come out until the races become tight.
  16. It has been revealed that Ricky Nolasco tore the meniscus in his right knee when he was attempting to tie his shoe. Bad news certainly does come in threes, as over the last month the Marlins have lost Chris Coghlan to a shaving cream pie-related knee injury, Ronny Paulino to a suspension for performance enhancers, and now Nolasco in a shoe-tying incident. The Marlins and Nolasco are still holding out hope that the right-hander will pitch again this season, but it seems extremely unlikely. Aug. 22 - 1:58 pm et I think it's time to get someone to tie his shoes for him.... Velcro!
  17. Maybe trading Cody and leaving Maybin with no "safety net" is akin to promoting Miller over the rest of the guys in the minors: it is time to put up or shut up. Here are the keys, now show me you can drive. Beinfest has admited the Cabrera trade has not turned out the way he wanted it to and is severely disappointed in it. These final few months (into next year as well, I'd imagine for Maybin at least) will let Beinfest and company evaluate, on the major league level, the two prime aquisitions one last time. Miller pitched well today, but I bet if he struggles in his next couple of starts, he will be buried so deep in this organization he will barely see the light of day, if not traded. That is not a slight against Miller, but I think the FO is at the end of their rope with him. If Maybin follows, he may not be bured, but I bet they explore some trade options. I think Maybin has more time to "develop," but I think the FO is getting antsy. An ignorant question: What happens if Maybin doesn't work out for us? What would be our options for centerfield for the future? That I have no clue. I don't think we have anyone in our system, so I wouldn't be surprised if we trade for a Juan Pierre-type. Regardless if we kept Ross past this season, he was going to have to make way for Maybin soon. I think this just shortens the timetable of when the FO "knows" how Maybin will work out. Heck, if he falters, I wouldn't be suprised if a new "future" is in CF by 2012.

  19. He was the most effective pitcher in our BP!
  20. CODY! But who will pitch for us in blowout games now?
  21. Nice to see Sanabia come up and pitch like that.
  22. 80% of me wants Miller to turn into a good pitcher, either out of the bullpen or as a start. 20% of me wants him to go down in flames and get the heck out of the organization, being sick and tired of hearing of how he is improving/regressing and seeing him up and then down. Does that make me a bad person?
  23. Really, Loria is giving Helms a million dollars to go to Vegas and try to increase it. Unfortunately, Helms does not hit on 15. Or any value.
  24. I agree that we need a proven, solid starter in the rotation next year. Someone a step up form the Robertsons of the world.
  25. I'm not worried. Even the best pitchers have an off game and I am sure he is a little bit tired, but he did go 8 last time (and then took himself out for being tired). He's got to work through this stretch and get his second wind.
