I think that he's bullshiting the organization, and that there's something wrong with that knee. He's had some games like this, but I don't ever recall a game when Nolasco had more walks than innings pitched. He looked like Andrew Miller, at times. Speaking of Andrew Miller, he still sucks. At least he gave the team 4 innings, I guess.

Nolasco is not a legitimate 2 on a contender. We need to acquire a legit, veteran, proven number 2 (preferably a lefty) and a closer this offseason and with the lineup we have right now i would think that is a contender. Nolasco as a 3 and Anibal as a 4 is a phenomenal rotation and our young lineup is going to be among the best in the league next year.

We're not getting a legit #2, nor are we going to find a closer.

That's either built from within, or it's just not happening. Seriously, those things are not easy to find.

I don't think Nunez is the issue for long term stability on this team. He's not a bad closer and isn't going to cost us many games. I think he's a great set up man long term, but he can suffice as a closer for now.

I've also said quite a while that a good bullpen can be found for cheap in free agency. Mix and match that with the good parts of our current bullpen, and we should be at least respectable next year.

And I 100% agree with h2r09, this team needs a legit #2 option before they are ready to succeed. I don't care how we get one, but this team isn't going to make the playoffs until we get one, and given Nolasco's inconsistent history, he isn't the answer to be that #2 guy right now.

At least Miller used to throw hard now he tops out at 91. The guy pretty much has nothing going for him other than being a lefty.

I think every team in baseball wants a proven #2 lefty starter.. but they don't exactly grow on trees.

I have a hard time putting any stock in a game where a guy hasn't pitched in 11 days and is doing so on a bum wheel

Fisaro remarked that Noalsco's fastball was where it usually is, so no injury-impact there, but speculated that Ricky was hesistant to test that knee. If that's the case, then Ricky should be shut down or at least skip a start. I don't want him pitching "scared." Especially if it ends up like tonight.

Agreed. Changing things to accommodate a bum knee can lead to arm problems too.

I didn't see the game, I'm out of town, but I did see the box score. I have to say, props to Nolasco for trying to pitch through the injury, but we need to shut him down whether he wants to be or not. It's risky to pitch on a knee injury as it is, and it's hard to say that the results weren't affected tonight, even if things didn't look different. Let's get the issue fixed before something worse happens.

If this was a position player he could play through an injury all he wanted, but a pitcher throwing off a mound has to be able to use his full body effectively just to complete the proper throwing motion without compensating and either hurting his arm, or getting his mechanics seriously out of whack.

I didn't watch the entire game. I caught the first few innings but it was enough. First off, Ricky didn't look good at all. It most likely had to do with his knee, whether it was pyschological or physical or both. Also because he hadn't pitched in quite some time. Yes he can be inconsistent at times (but so can many pitchers or players of any kind), but I don't think I've seen him that bad. I agree with those who say he should probably go on the DL. Putting him out there could just make things seriously worse for him. I think his next start with be the key to determining that (unless something changes prior). If he goes out there and pitches horribly again, I say shut him down also. If you can't pitch well because of your knee, then there's no sense going out there and taking a risk of making things worse.

In one respect, it was great for Andrew Miller to give us all those innings...but ya know, you see your team is down by 6 when you come in..the last thing you should do is give up more runs! Just a really bad game. That whole inning where the Braves scored 6 runs (I think it was in one inning, from what I remember) just didn't go our way. Nothing seemed to go right from whatever of the game I saw. So it wasn't our night. We have JJ going today and here's hoping that JJ pitches well. Let's at least win this series!

It was good to see Maybin in there again, btw. At least he wasn't hurt badly and was able to play.

Yeah, if one part of the machine is messed up, youve gotta shut it down. You're gonna start over compensating and that's where more serious injuries can come from.

Not to mention the rest of the team compensating for him. See how far Gaby had to come in on that bunt? It's one of the things I didn't like about Gaby"s defense before. He was usually "over charging" bunts, which really puts him out of position.

I would prefer they just shut Ricky down. But then.......If there is no swelling and he got some form of confidence from this outing......

He didn't look right at all last night.

If he blows up again next start and they don't shut him down I'm going to be pretty frustrated.

It may be Ricky's own fault by him not telling the team he's hurt but if he's not himself like he was last night again next start then need to just shut him down and put Miller or someone else in his spot in the rotation and prepare for next year.

Nolasco will pitch again in 5 days, apparently the knee did not get worse.

Even if it didn't, it's still not 100%. Why risk anything?

Good question. My biggest concern about him pitching is him hurting his arm by changing his mechanics to alleviate the knee pain.
