  1. Not interested, but then again I'm sure the Marlins don't care what I say about it.
  2. When 60000+ people came to the playoff games in '97 or '03(can't remember which), that's still a record for a baseball game isn't it? Not even close, in the late 1950's when the Dodgers had just moved to Los Angeles and played in the Coliseum they had over 90,000 at one game. And in the American League, Yankee Stadium used to hold 84,000 back in the 1930's. I think old Cleveland Municipal Stadium also held over 75,000 for Indians games. So no, our 67,000 at playoff games is no where near a record.
  3. If we hadn't won two World Series wearing teal I wouldn't mind. Would the New York Yankees ditch navy blue? Dude the Marlins aren't the Yankee's so its a moot point.:whistle
  4. Occasionally the other team is going to win and today was the day they did. This is not a bad Nationals team, at least not as bad as their record might imply, we took two out three, we won the series and now we go to New York in hopes of doing the same. Don't get me wrong it's a painful loss not to mention the waste of an afternoon a) there's nothing that can be done now and b) I suppose the rest of the day will be spent playing the blame game. I hope not. The really disconcerting thing was how at peace Zimmerman appeared during that his last bat as if he knew what was coming, he was mentality already making the turn around first... He's a starter on the anti-Marlin team. Matt Diaz, Aaron Heilman, Jamie Moyer......... Chipper Jones
  5. I hate comcast, can't wait to swtich to UVERSE in a couple of weeks I had UVerse for 4 weeks, couldn't wait to get it out of my house and go back to DirecTV.
  6. We aren't making the playoffs with Nunez as closer and probably not with Lindstrom. But given that Nunez has displayed a key thing that you absolutely can't have in a closer (giving up the home run at a constant rate) it's not going to do us well to keep him there anyway. Now when does the FO learn that you have to go out and spend a litte $$$ to get a closer ? You just can't plug in young players there very often and have it work. Next year if we see the same crappy bullpen, don't expect the season to end any differently.
  7. The reason he did it, is because he could. We are but a very small voice, and he knows that. It was wrong, but I always saw him as a kind of thug/bully type of guy, and I guess I was right.
  8. Congrats CC, well deserved. So when do the people on the board have him traded for prospects ? :whistle
  9. Good to hear the surgeries went well, let him know we're rooting for him to do well in rehab and wish him the best. So he's expected to basically miss all of '10 now? And there's always going to be a h2r09 in a fan base so I wouldn't really pay any credence to what he has to say, he doesn't speak for us as a whole. Yeah Nny, he will miss all of 2010. I could see him getting a few innings in the minors just to see what he could do but I am hoping the Marlins will give him the full year to rehab. It's not just TJ he is recovering from, he also has the flexor tendon. When he went to Alabama he was hoping to just have the Flexor Tendon surgery because it is only a 4 month rehab. From what Andrews told him he willl do the TJ rehab which will also rehab his FT. Im know Dallas will work hard to come back 100%. From what Ive read over 85% come back from this surgery just as good as they were. Some even come back stronger. We shall see. Im thankful for fans like you and Erick. Guys who see the big picture Bro, I'll go even farther, I am hoping he comes back and strong, not just for the Florida Marlins, but mostly for himself. Let him know that there are some fans here that care that he is just back to normal, even if he doesn't play ball ever again. His health is more important than if he ever throws a baseball again.
  10. Why does everyone bring up payroll? It says which would you WANT the Marlins to sign. Why ? Because its the very reason this team is struggling right now. This team had a chance, a legit chance to make the post-season, but the management DID NOTHING to help. They got an injury prone Nick Johnson, who did his usual thing, get hurt, and didn't help us much in the month of August. Johnson, when healthy is a good addition, but his history is he gets hurt, and he did it yet again. And trust me on this, Nick Johnson is not going to put any team over the top for a playoff run. I do believe that was a move just to make some of the players think they were doing something, anything at the trade deadline As for the pitchin help this team desparately needed -- Luis Ayala......huh ???? That is your big playoff run move for pitching help ? Again the management, was unwilling to take a chance and give up some organization depth to make a run for the playoffs. You have no guarrentee's and this year they were close. Next year could be another 2007, and we end up 10 or 12 games below .500. This was the year you had a chance, and this ownership showed not only this team, but I believe the rest of baseball, that the bottom line is more important than winning. You can talk about 2003 as much as you want, but it was not the aquisition of Urgeth Urbina that won this team a World Series. I believe they would have made the playoffs without him. I saw yesterday that Penny had turned us down, much as Smoltz did a week or so ago, that is despite Penny having direct talks with Loria. The reputation bites us in the arse once again. No one in their right mind that has any sense or pride will play for the Marlins. No players in baseball have respect for this management at all, and will not play for them unless they are in a cornered position. FA's do not knock down our doors, even the affordable ones, because they just don't respect the Marlins, and they know (based on the last 3 years actions) that management will not be there for them when it comes to crunch time. I'm sure some of you will completely pooh-pooh my comments, but deep in your heart you know I speak the truth, and it hurts.....it hurts me to write it, but in my heart I believe it, and under this ownership, winning a playoff spot will forever be harer than for most, even with the new ballpark, because there has been no promise by ownership to do anything more than they are now, and that is be cheap, and try to get lucky.
  11. Good news we got rid of Ayala, but if only we never gave him a 2nd chance with his performance the other night, we may have been in a much better position. Ayala, interesting. Everyone was estactic when we got him about a month ago, and I couldn't understand why......there was a good reason he was available so easily that time of the year. I mean if he couldn't make it on the "Natonals" (chuckle) what makes you think Ayala was going to make a difference for the playoff run ? That's not particularly true. I remember a lot of people (including myself) that didn't want him. True I take back "everyone", but replace it with "many of you were estatic". Better Rabbethan ?
  12. And this interesting comment from Dan Uggla after the game....... "There's no sense of urgency,'' Uggla said. ``There's still time, there's still a lot of games left. We're all calm and relaxed and I'm pretty sure we're going to stay that way.'' http://wsbradio.com/localnews/2009/09/braves-5-marlins-2.html They need to have urgency and find it now.....I just became a fan of shipping Uggla somewhere else after the season. I will not cry if he is gone. That is not a champions way of thinking.
  13. Good news we got rid of Ayala, but if only we never gave him a 2nd chance with his performance the other night, we may have been in a much better position. Ayala, interesting. 14. Its why many guys I work with, just totally dismiss the Marlins when they are brought up More likely that it's you who is being dismissed because they have concluded that you don't ever know what you're talking about, a reasonable conclusion based on your error-filled comments about the Marlins, of whom you are supposedly a fan. Either that, or based on those same comments, you're one of the guys dismissing the Marlins. Any way you slice it, the only proper course of action is to commit ritual seppuku, as all hope has obviously and irrevocably been lost because of one game and the Marlins have no hope of making the post-season for at least the next 50 years. Are you on drugs ? Its not just one game they lost, it was two series in a row, 4 of 6 games. They dropped to 5th place in the WC race, its not just one game. And you must not know yourself of the Marlins history, or you would know I am telling the truth. The Marlins as an organization haven't done much to foster fan interest here in South Fla. They win 2 WS and then completely destroy the teams that won them. Its not something that fosters fan interest, especially casual fan interest. And that is just one example of their dreadful fan-conscience history in South Fla.
  15. The Wild Card has always been more of a Marlins tradition anyway. We never won a World Series by winning the division. Tha's because we've never won the divison. And until last year we had never been on top of the Braves. I want to do it again this year, even if we don't win the WC I want to finish ahead of the Braves. I HATE the Braves !
  16. We need Nick back in the lineup! You can clearly see the impact he has on this team when his on the field.. I agree, but you also see the danger and gamble the Marlins took, when they traded for a player with injury history. They decided to go that route and now they are paying for it.
  17. You can't have much confidence with this rotation down the stretch, let alone in a playoff series. I'm not being a pessimist, only a realist. Management failed this team this year, by not being more aggressive before the trading deadline. Getting an injury prone Nick Johnson and failing to get any pitching help is what killed this playoff run. Its a shame, because for the 2nd year in a row, you were right there. There are no guarentee's in this game, and we could see a repeat of 2007, next season. How disappointing would that be ? Its very frustrating at times being a Marlins fan. :banghead Its a shame that this management cares more about bottom lines, than winning. It sure doesn't help to bring in the casual fan into becoming a loyal & passionate fan. Its why many guys I work with, just totally dismiss the Marlins when they are brought up at work, they immediately talk about how the team just doesn't care about winning. Whether or not that is the truth, its the perception that is out there and the Marlins do very little to change that line of thinking by sitting back and doing nothing to help this team win. It also can't be lost on the younger players in the minors. I wonder if many of them feel trapped in this organization ? Players like Stanton and Maybin must look at us much like players look at being in the Pirates organization. That there is no hope for the future. I still have never seen this ownership either on paper or other media promise that they will increase payroll once we get into the new stadium.
  18. That is wrong. Inflation can be caused by any number of things, for example a weakening currency such that foreign entities demand more units in a trade, driving up prices at home. I didn't say that was the only cause of inflation. Just that could be a reason it happens during the recovery. Yes there are many reasons we could have inflation.
  19. Originally from Germany but living in Florida for 13 years. I didn't know what baseball was when I came to Florida, but now I am a dedicated fan for life. I am a fan of Eintract Frankfurt for football in the Bundesliga and of the Miami Dolphins in the American football.
  20. Marlins Getting Most Bang for Their Buck from a couple weeks back Its interesting that Washington is writing an article about attendance, when from what I have seen this year & last, despite a new ballpark, most Washingtonians are also ignoring the Nationals, or is that the Natonals ? haha, its "Natinals" Thats right....see I couldn't even spell it wrong.
  21. Yeah, it's kinda funny, but they have a couple of good points though, about the location, possible attendance, etc. I wonder what the prices for the admission tickets + parking + food are going to be, given the hardships of the economy today it might be tough to take your kids to the ballgame. Not to mention traffic issues. And it may be even tougher for the fans from the neighbor counties. We'll see. Remember the economy of today, will not be the economy of 2012. This is rock bottom, and about as bad as it will get. Almost all of the recent indicators seem to say that the economy will be on the rebound by the end of the year, and that 2010 & 2011 may be big recovery years. Late in 2011 we might be worrying about inflation, which is not always a bad thing, because it means the economy is strong, and there is a lot of demand for everything.
  22. wow looking at pujol vs hanley and pujol is the clear MVP.hANLEY ONLY LEAD HIM in average and stolen bs. Hanley ramirez needs about 13 homeruns and 30 more rbi's and keep his avg the same and me make the po's he will defintly get the mvp. Unless the voters druel over pujols you know what then he aint got a shot lol but hanley his having a great year no matter what! Hanley is having a great year, but this one is already over with. Pujols in a steamrolling. It may even be unanimous.
  23. Marlins Getting Most Bang for Their Buck from a couple weeks back Its interesting that Washington is writing an article about attendance, when from what I have seen this year & last, despite a new ballpark, most Washingtonians are also ignoring the Nationals, or is that the Natonals ?
  24. so everyone assumes that food will be cheaper/better in the new stadium. keep dreaming. I don't assume cheaper. I do assume better though, mainly because the Marlins have been making such a huge point of saying there will be better food. I agree with this. But why is everyone ignoring the price of tickets and parking at the new pond? Is everyone just assuming we will still have one of the cheaper averages among MLB teams? Dream on. I expect a large increase in my ticket and parking prices. I also expect to make a killing on StubHub the first couple years for those games during the week. Everybody is going to want to be seen there. Pay for my season tickets people!! Boy that's real loyalty
  25. the Marlins, for the most part, while trying, don't do enough community outreach "Community outreach?" :lol C'mon. Baseball is a business. They ain't the least bit concerned with or interested in selling $5 or $10 tickets except as a sop to people who think "community outreach" matters, which it doesn't. The money is made selling a high quality product to people who can actually afford to pay for it, as in those who can buy boxes, sky-boxes, suites, VIP junk and no end of other high-end stuff and perks, the rest is inconsequential. As it should be. Exactly, its a business, and community outreach is part of the teams public relations, and if you don't think that is important, then I would be surprised to find you to be a successful businessman/owner.
