  1. Is anyone else thinking championship? :lol just what I thought. :lol
  2. The Hanley contract only came about because it was necessary for the stadium deal to get done. Which again is all about profits and not winning. Who knows how long Hanley remains with the team now that the stadium deal is done. Loria may just wish to go back to a 2006 payroll, with virtually all players making the minimum. We do have 3 ½ months before the season starts for him to get his profit margins increased. So you are saying that if the Marlins didn't get the stadium deal done, Loria would hold onto Hanley indefinitely as a PR move, despite possibly losing even more money on a bad stadium deal at The Park Formerly Known As Joe Robbie? And now that he has secured a steady income, one that at least favors the team playing in the stadium and not a guy who owns the stadium (at least, not as slanted as it is in TPFNAJR), he is going to jettison everything that got him there? Including the player that he (according to you) envisioned suckering people into supporting the team? So, come 2012, he'll burned every possible bridge to make the Marlins popular again, just so he can sell 10,000 seats in a new stadium? Because, after all, winning doesn't bring more fans, and hence, more money to the team, causing an increase in profit that may even outgrow an potential increase in payroll. Interesting theory. First off, nice try at putting words onto my post. Since when has Loria cared about burning bridges ? Look at what he has done from a PR standpoint since he bought the team. He continues to employ the midget, which all by it self is one of the greatest sins ever committed by someone who owns a major league team. That man continues to be an embarassment every time he opens his mouth.
  3. a winning ballclub and getting cash from the big boys. sounds like smart business to me. there was only one winning ballclub last year, and that was the Yankee's. Being satisfied with anything less, means you don't understand what competing is all about. wonder if you understand what running a business is about... I understand completely and it gets straight to the point, and that is making profits IS more important to Loria than winning. If the Marlins win too much it means heftier arbitration salaries for those involved and that means less profit. He'd rather the Marlins come close and tease, which might keep more fans interested the whole season, but not good enough to push his arbitration players salary demands too high. Getting that one player that could put them over the top is never going to be on the table for this franchise as long as Loria owns the team. Then he wouldn't have signed Hanley to a long term deal. 5. I met the guy, he loves Miami, than again who doesn't? Many folks, hence the reason most of the people on this board don't live here.

  7. 2003, over the years I have concluded you are either : 1) Loria himself (LOL) or 2) A Marlins PR rep or 3) someone that took a lot of drugs in the 1990's It was the sixties and god it was great!!! As for the rest of your diatribe it's one factual mistake piled on top of another so why bother...the one thing I agree with you on is that over the last three or four years they have been amassing a significant portion of their contribution towards the new stadium. I've said that myself many times and it's reasonable to do so given the rest of their financial situation. You see that as some kind of sin, I don't, we'll just have to disagree but I will say I suspect it's being done with the tacit approval of MLB and the majority of owners who want to keep baseball in South Florida. If Loria has been saving the revenue sharing money to put towards the stadium, isn't that the best possible thing he could have done for the franchise? It's not as if the on-field results are unacceptable. If the choice was to spend an extra $10 million on payroll with no assurance of more wins or saving the future of the franchise in South Florida, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that. Its wrong because you have a chance to make the playoffs the last two years or at least try to make the playoffs, with a big move and you failed. There are ZERO assurances that in the future the Marlins, even in a new stadium, and with a bigger payroll, will have that chance. You have to take your opportunities when they are given, and not sit around and think they will happen in the future. This ownership failed its players and fans, because of the greediness of the owner to make sure he has a new stadium in place when he sells the team in a few years. Because that will happen, its as assured as the sun will rise tomorrow. By 2013 the Marlins will have new owners.
  8. No one finds this an alarming display of behavior from one of our prospects ? All chiding the messenger in this thread, instead of debating whether or not Sean West is the kind of guy you want to help build a 1st class organization for 2012. What happens to West if he happens to get really big money ? If he is acting like this on MLB minimum wage, what happens and what kind of problems could he have once he gets some REAL money in arbitration ? If I am Beinfest, Loria and Hill I have discussions about what kind of trade can we include West in, before he becomes an embarassment, ala Scott Olsen. If I run a young organization trying to develop their fanbase from fans who were born around 1993 with the team, ofcourse I want to be associated with this. This brings in the 15-35 crowd like no other, while showing that our players are personable, not robots *yankees*. I say West grows a porn stache. Yeah I certainly don't want to emulate the Yankees and their brand new World Series trophy. Why would I want that ?
  9. anyone know how much money the marlins pay to use dolphin stadium and how much money they get from ticket sales? curious Well the ownership always complains about the amount, yet never once has shown us a number to back up how supposedly onerous this amount is. We should take their word ? You really trust what Loria has to say ? 2003, over the years I have concluded you are either : 1) Loria himself (LOL) or 2) A Marlins PR rep or 3) someone that took a lot of drugs in the 1990's 1st off, Loria owns 90% + of the Marlins, because of the debacle by the now silent partners when the group of them was still the ownership in Montreal. I believe they have to remain silent by rules of the ownership or risk losing that to Loria. So why spill any beans about the way the team is being run when you are making at least a couple of million of $ a year for doing nothing ? You always say that no one ever cares about how much money it takes to run an MLB organization. Well don't you think all 29 other MLB franchises have the same expenses ? No matter what you think it costs, it doesn't cost more than $ 10 million. It certainly can't be going to minor league payrolls, since its well known most minor leaguers make in the hundreds of $ a month, not the thousands or millions. And the Marlins aren't responsible but for just a portion of those payrolls, if any at all. Those minor league teams pay most of them. If that isn't the case then sign me up for ownership for a minor league team, because its almost all profit, all the time. Same goes for the minor league coaches, paid by the minor league team for the most part. If not, then its looking even better to be a minor league owner. Scouting you say costs millions.....really ? Your going to pay an MLB scout just as much or more than MLB coaches make ? I've known a couple of MLB scouts, because of going to U of Miami Hurricanes games for more than a few years, and boy if those guys are raking in the big bucks they sure did fool me. Most of them I talked to acted like they were not much better off than most of the rest of us. One I know lived in an area of South Miami (hence the reason he scouted every Hurricanes game) and unless he was just pocketing huge amounts for retirement, had a rather modest home for someone making these big bucks you say it costs the franchise to run an MLB team. So is the money going to scouting in the Dominican or others places ? You really want us to believe it costs more money to run a baseball camp in the Dominican than a MLB team in the US ? 2003, just get over it, Loria has a plan, and that plan all along has been to save the money from revenue sharing and make the other owners (through their fans) pay for his part of the new stadium. That is where the Marlins "share" of the stadium money is coming from. And even with that, the Marlins aren't paying a lot of that money up-front, but are getting to distribute their contribution over a number of years. The up-front money for the stadium is coming from the government. My hat is off to Loria, for bamboozling 2003, the government entities involved in the stadium, but I give him most credit to his fooling his fellow MLB owners into paying for his stadium. That is pure genius.
  10. No one finds this an alarming display of behavior from one of our prospects ? All chiding the messenger in this thread, instead of debating whether or not Sean West is the kind of guy you want to help build a 1st class organization for 2012. 11. #marlins trade lindstrom to astros for 2 minor leaguers, rhp robert bono and ss luis bryan - Clark Spencer Yeah, those are nobodies. We probably aren't getting that 3rd player, unless the Marlins find someone they really want to have on their 25-man roster for the entire 2010 season (unlikely). You never know.....might find another Dan Uggla. Lightning rarely strikes the same spot twice. Admit it, we got lucky with Uggla. Remember Uggla only got a chance because Pokey Reese decided to retire.
  12. EDIT: I should mention Alex that you should never trust a word that comes out of Loria's mouth, and I mean never. Never were words written on this board that had more truth than this.......
  13. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Rangers and Rays have shown interest in Marlins reliever Matt Lindstrom. ESPN.com's Buster Olney reported just a few moments ago that a trade involving the reliever was "imminent," so there's a good chance either the Rays or Rangers landed him. Lindstrom had a 5.89 ERA and 1.65 WHIP this past season but boasts a high octane fastball and slider combination. Source: Rotoworld For those who know the Rays and Rangers systems, what prospects would be a fair trade in this scenario? Well it might be telling that the only name bantered around was Lindstrom. Olney saying nothing about who we are getting back tells you more than you want to know......in other words Beinfest is doing another Willingham/Olsen for crap trade.
  14. I would think that the Mets would benefit the most. They feature one of the biggest Puerto Rican stars in the game today (Carlos Beltran) Even though I don't mind these 3 games being in PR, it seems like more of a home game for the Mets, they have Beltran and Delgado. I know what you mean but really the only thing that matters is who has last at bats. On paper we will be the home team. In reality they will feel more at home. Not because of a couple players, but because the crowd will be behind them more than us. Exactly, how does this benefit the Marlins in the least ? I could understand taking a Washington or Pittsburgh series to PR, but not the Mets. Not only does it deprive your home fans of their games, it feeds into the fanbase of one of the teams you are trying to beat for the division crown, and it gives them what essentially is 3 extra home games. It sends a very negative message to the South Fla fanbase, the fanbase you should be doing everything to build up. Its a slap in our face, and I can't understand why the supposed real fans on this website aren't outraged ? Maybe that's because most of the posters on this board live outside of South Fla, and it really doesn't matter to them where the games are played ? If they do this I seriously have to question, once again, Jeffrey Loria's real intentions about winning. Does he really want to win, or just to be competitive and get lucky and win the division by chance ?
  15. Taking JJ to Arbitration is such a huge painful mistake. It is just wrong but that reminds us that baseball is a business And it also reminds us just how cheap our ownership is. Even with the increased revenue they are going to get in 2012, they are still reluctant to spend any money. This is why there should have been promises in writing from Loria that if he owns the team, and the new stadium opens, he has to spend at least the league average. Anything less is unacceptable for the taxpayers who are footing the bill for his team to reap him millions of $$$ on the backs of hard working Miami-Dade County workers who can't even afford to set foot in the stadium.
  16. Seems like the Marlins are pondering taking a Mets series out of Landshark and to Hiram Botham Stadium in Puerto Rico. The series in late June seems like the most likely one targeted.... Marlins vs Mets in PR ?
  17. You know, people might villify Boras or what not but he's normally not a dick, he just pulls out all stops to maximize contracts. This guy is just a dick. If the whole offer thing is true, yeah, that's dumbf*** on our part. But to go crying to the media is dumbf*** aswell. Maybe so, but if the Marlins did indeed offer that insulting 3/$22, I don't really blame him. If that offer is real and the Marlins refuse to budge, the Marlins are the ones who should be ridiculed. Given Loria's history......who do you believe ? I believe the agent.
  18. We should trade back Andrew Miller. I just hope we kept the receipt because our merchandise was certainly defective. :notworthy:lol
  19. Well, Hermida didn't seem to have the friendliest relationship with Fredi Gonzalez and the front office. Please elaborate on this.....I wasn't aware of any major problems. I knew he wasn't a favorite of the organization, because he had been a disappointment, but I have never heard of any personality clashes with Freddi or Beinfest.
  20. Me being a Yankee fan should I be happy with this move? Being a Yankees fan I would first and foremost be celebrating having won the World Series. Personal preference though. You mean BUYING the World Series title, but that is for a different thread. I guess Buster Olney didn't have all the insider info this morning on Mike and Mike. I guess the Admins should lock my thread about Buster and Hermida, because its a moot point now.
  21. Buster Olney says that among other things that a new round of Free Agency will start next week, but unlike in years past, this will be outright cutting of players. He mentioned that as many as 100 good/prospect type players will be on the free market, and that the rich (Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, etc) will only get richer. He made an example of Jeremy Hermida as someone that would be outrighted onto the free agency market. I was always of the mind that we would only trade him to get rid of him. Is Olney onto something here or is it all hot air ?
  22. My link The costs are going up for the parking lot...like a whole lot, nearly 50 %.
  23. I'm still holding out a little hope that Nick Johnson might be back. I wish he was back to but his reputation of "The man of glass" wasn't excatly shattered this year. I think he missed more games than he played for us. We can't have that, especially as thin as our organization is because of Loria. Our bench has to have productive players or we are screwed like this year.
  24. Scott Procter, the reliable veteran arm we needed out of the pen. That story didn't turn out right. Or the dumb FO move that backfired even worse, because they failed to get anyone else to help out and put all their eggs in Proctors basket, even with his health issues. DUMBEST MOVE BEINFEST MAY HAVE EVER MADE.
  25. Still wouldn't be completely shocked to see Uggla hang around, for his 30 HR power. You don't know the cheapskates that run this team very well, do you? :lol
