Division Gone?

Featured Replies

Ok i know what happened last year with the mets and all but we lost like 4.5 games in the division from the past week and are now 8 out.

the phillies keep on winning and it sucks that after we brought it down to 3.5 just a few days ago and now its 8.

always like to have two avenues to get to the postseason but......division done?

I can't see how the division is realistic with about 6 weeks left.

The Wild Card is still absolutely in play, but we need to go on a winning streak and some other teams need to have at least sub-par streaks.

The Wild Card has always been more of a Marlins tradition anyway. We never won a World Series by winning the division. ;)

That needs to change...

While winning a division is always nice, but I don't give a damn how we get to the playoffs as long as we get there.

I'm one who thinks our chances at winning the Wild Card are not as high as the division. A 5 game sweep of the Phils would put us in good grounds.

Assuming we can actually pull that off though.

Divison is done like everyone else has said, but with the lose of Arron Cook I think the Rockies could slide and the Giants offense could leave them out to dry. The Braves are an intersting WC pick. If we got the WC I would be elated, how many of the past WS champs in recent years have entered the playoffs as the WC??

I haven't looked at the division since the Phillies acquired Cliff Lee. They are just a better team. Period.

I'm not sold that the Rockies are this good, however, and we have some weak opponents coming up, so I think we can get back in it, and at the very least, make a race of it.

I agree. I wish we could've gotten Cliff Lee. I was hoping the Phillies would've overspent on Halladay and we would've picked up Lee. I hope he doesn't turn out to be like a Moyer to us. that would kill me having to see that crap all over again. We just need more consistency from SP and we are right there.

And Nick Johnson back would be a big help.

4 Wild-Card teams have won the World Series. 97,02,03,04

Those teams from '97 and '03 were pretty good if my memory serves me correctly

I'll say this... If we can't win at least 4 of the 6 games against the Padres and Mets (preferrably 5 of 6, but that is pushing it), then we don't deserve to be consider anything other than a pretender this year, period.

Disagree. Even when the Phillies acquired Cliff Lee, I still thought we can win the division. And honestly, it still is not out of reach. We play them 6 more time this season.

But, like everyone else said, WC seems more likely.

I'm not saying you're wrong b/c it's really an opinion, but do you really think we're better than the Phillies? The champions, who this year got last year's AL Cy Young winner?

No, the Phillies are the better team.

I disagreed with you when you said the Marlins were out of the division when the Phillies acquired Cliff Lee. At the time, we were within striking distance. And I did not expect Cliff Lee to have this type of second half with the Phillies. I know he was the AL Cy Young winner last season, but I thought CBP would have an effect on him. Apparently, it didn't
