  1. Anyone who says they dont want Pujols is completely nuts. Sure he is 32, but he is still the man. And if you want to attack the Phils rotation, you do it with a middle lineup consisting of Hanley-Pujols-Stanton. Not to mention attendance would probably not be an issue with Pujols here. If you want to attack the Phillies rotation, you might want to get a rotation that can sort of compete with them because they're not allowing many runs, regardless of the lineup. Pujols is a great player, but when you give a guy 10 years...you're investing in him for 10 years. It's possible that we'd have a mediocre player at the age of 40, etc. being the highest paid player in the game. The organization still has to buy out Mike Stanton's arbritration years, btw. That's more important than anything. Leaving yourself with no flexibility because you want a player who's likely to not be good throughout his entire contract is silly. Pujols is also a 1B. No offense to 1B, but 1B is a position that you can fill rather easily. We have a guy who's pretty good right now, actually. Gaby Sanchez is certainly not hurting this team. I'd much rather this team sign guys like C.J. Wilson (prays), Aramis, etc. than spend all the money on one guy. Sort of how Dale Tallon and the Panthers did it this offseason. I know Pujols camp wants 10 years, and if they are sticking to that, then Id go elsewhere. No way i want them to offer 10 years to Albert. And while Gaby is a nice 1st baseman, he isnt Pujols. We saw he couldnt sustain the 1st half surge that he had this season, which wouldnt happen with Albert. Gaby doesnt give you 40/100 like Albert probably would still for the next few seasons, especially sandwiched between Hanley and Stanton. I agree we need to shore up the discussion, which we are talking about on another board it seems, but you have to be able to score runs as well, and the Fish obviously need help doing so. A short term deal for Ramirez would help, but if we are looking at a major move, then Pujols or even Fielder would be ideal. Again, if we are talking 10 year deals though, then no, Im not for that at all.

  3. Aramis Ramirez? OH GOD NO!!! Everybody else? Nice speculation. Well Ramirez's .306/25/90 would be a welcomed edition to the team this year. He isnt the sexiest of names, but has a .284 career average, which isnt nearly as bad as whoever else we have manning 3rd.
  4. 4/$16 million is what CNNSI is reporting now. Dont know if anyone else posted this yet.
  5. Wilson and Pujols would be just fine by me, although Pujols will be more of a pipe dream. The one thing that Loria needs to understand is this...the NBA might be locked out the whole season, and with the downward spiral of the Fins, the Marlins really have a chance to grab some of those fans that attend Fin and Heat games. The Panthers are going to be better, and should do well in attendance this season, but if they dont make the playoffs, then their season doesnt overlap the Marlins schedule. Go out and have a Pat Riley-like free agency, and we could really bolster our fan base, new stadium or not. Since they now receive ALL the revenue from the stadium, go out and spend some money! Will that happen though, well we will just have to wait and see.
  6. Dont know if anyone has seen these yet, but she is looking good!
  7. Another great effort by the team tonight. I'm real anxious to see how good this team can be once LoMo gets back, and once Hanley and Stanton fry going. If we can get improvement there, we should be in this till the very end.
  8. LoMo tweeted that the plan is for him to be in the lineup, depending on how he feels tomorrow obviously. How does someone strain an arch? Weird.
  9. I think we will see Stanton in the HR Derby when we host it at our new ballpark.
  10. Who cares. The fact that they have to take shots at the lowly Marlins, after they created one of the best starting rotations in history, says it all. All I know is that we will see them in the end, and we will let our bats, and our rotation, do the talking!
  11. I think the last time I was this excited for an upcoming season was when we went out and signed Delgado. This team is the most complete team we have had in some time. While there are still questions at key positions, we are entering a season where expectations should be high. We have one of the better rotations in the NL, and a bullpen that should be MUCH improved from seasons past. I think its safe to say that we wont be as nervous handing over late leads to our pen as we were the past few seasons. Im not expecting 20 win seasons from all of our starters, but I would be happy with consistency and improvement. We obviously dont have a staff like the Phils do, but there is no reason why we should play second fiddle to anyone else. On offense, we lost Uggla, but we get Stanton and LoMo for a full season, which should offset the HRs and RBIs we lose from Uggla. Cogs will be back, and hopefully he can regain that ROY form he had, and hopefully Hanley can once again have an MVP type season. The pop might not be there like years past, but I think we will be a much better team at the plate. There are still some ifs with this team, but in the end, anything less than at least contention for the WC would be a disappointing season. What better way to enter a new stadium with a 3rd WS banner!
  12. Defensively, we are better. Perry Hill alone makes our infield defense better. The difference between when he was here, and when he left, is night and day. As long as this team is committed to that side of the game, then we will be fine. The biggest concern for me is the defensive play of Buck, Cogs, and Sanchez. I will take the average defense from them, but if we dont see improvement from them over the course of the season, its going to be a big problem for us, because all three are key positions for a teams defense. Offensively, we are better. Yes, we lost Uggs pop, but we should see a better HR output this year. We get Stanton for a full season, LoMo as well, and a catcher with some pop. We should hit for a better team average, and as long as we can stay disciplined at the plate, our SOs should go down as well. We are also a faster team as well. The biggest improvement is obviously the pen. No longer do we have to worry about our starters going late into games because our pen is questionable. As long as this team can stay relatively healthy, they should compete for the WC. Most of the pieces is there, and Im sure if we are in contention come the deadline, Beinfest will make that move, or two, to get us over the top.
  13. OT: MarlinsLou, that pic you have really scares the shyte out of me man. Those two look like total tools in that pic, and they look like they have been dating for years, with Uggla having that, "Oh shyte, Ive just been exposed" look on his face.
  14. I don't much like hearing Sanchez' name come up in trade speculation for Upton or anyone else. He reminds me so much of Edgar Martinez, who was a late-blooming super star at clean up for the Mariners. Martinez didn't start producing until his late twenties and Sanchez is way ahead of schedule. I'm looking for a solid season for Sanchez ... somewhere in the range of 25 HR, .300 average, and 100+ rbi. The Hanley, Sanchez, Stanton foundation in the middle of the batting order is the Marlins strength. A lineup of Coghlan, Morrison, Hanley, Sanchez, Stanton at the top of the order is what the Marlins should be all about in 2011. If you are going to move any of those guys, it should be Morrison in favor of better defense in left field. However, I wouldn't give up on the idea of Morrison growing into that left field spot. Sanchez is going to be a big name in Marlins' history .... count on it. You really are a joke Why is he a joke? Gabby batted .273 with 19 homers and 85 RBIs as a rook. We arent talking about 50 homers and 150 RBIs here, those numbers are attainable. Consider his last line as well, "Sanchez is going to be a big name in Marlins' history." Do you really believe that? You highlighted " I'm looking for a solid season for Sanchez ... somewhere in the range of 25 HR, .300 average, and 100+" and called him a joke. If you mean something else, highlight that, not something that is quite possible.

  16. Could you imagine what type of recruiting class Gruden would bring in his first year here??? I think he would KILL recruiting. It wouldnt happen this year because we are limited in scholarships, but next year, when we have the full lot of scholarships to offer, he could bring in a top three class.
  17. The Sun Sentinel has a report saying that Gruden definitely is still in play. There are other reports out over the web, and twitter, about how there could be a press conference tomorrow afternoon to introduce Gruden as the next coach at the U. The one consensus with all these reports is that the money is agreed upon, around $3.5--7 million, but whats holding the situation up is the amount of years. The Canes want him for 4-5 years, and it looks like it will be a four year deal. I just want this Gruden talk done already, one way or the other. There has to be something going on between the two sides, because if there wasnt, there wouldnt be this much Gruden chatter. Just get the deal done Hocutt, and let Gruden return the Canes back to where they belong, and that is the top of the college football world.
  18. Leach wont even get an interview, I would bet on that. he walked in his interview with the Canes four years ago wearing flip flops and shorts, and the Canes left that interview unimpressed, to say the least. The Gruden situation could come to an end, one way or another, tomorrow. Gruden is doing the MNF game tonight in Arizona, and Gary Ferman from Canesport.com, who is a well informed person, thinks that Gruden and the Canes will talk tomorrow.
  19. http://www.footballnewsnow.com/2010/report-gruden-and-miami-close-on-deal-3-million-per-year/ Saw that before, but its nothing more than a report going off of what Lewis said. Lewis was a well respected reporter for ESPN, and I wouldnt think he would just tweet the info out of his butt. There is probably some truth to it. There are other rumblings going around about how it could be announced in the next few hours. We will just have to wait and see.
  20. And his follow up tweet: My scoop on Gruden to UM is from a credible source I respect who is a former ESPN radio guy and also another scoop is a UM great. No lies here... LakeLewis via UberTwitter
  21. Just got word from a credible source that the next coach at University of Miami is John Gruden. About 3 Million a year!
  22. What are the chances of the BSU coach coming to UM? Zero I also wouldn't put much stock in the Gruden rumor ...... I'd love it and think he would be an excellent college coach, but I just don't see the money & control he'd demand being there I hope they find a guy who is having success at a smaller program and have him make the jump ..... the nostalgia picks and assistant promoting isn't getting it done here ..... the program has enough stature that they should be able to get some young promising coach Reports are Gruden would be interested in talking with the Canes, and that the Canes would offer him $3 million, which is what Kirby has been allowed to spend on our next HC. Today is a great day to be a Florida State Seminole This. Also, no one mentioned that UM's OC Mark Whipple also got fired. I'll make a prediction right now though that Jim Harbough will be the Canes next HC. Whipple was in fact kept. Its going to be up to the next HC on whether or not he stays.

  24. Whats going on with Skipworth?
  25. What did Beinfest say? I think they make at least another move. There's just something about this that doesn't seem right. It's a stupid hunch but I just can't believe it just ends here. "Mike Stanton is one of the premium young power guys in the game. Logan Morrison as he plays the power will pick up. It's a little bit of change for the ball club. I'm not sure you're going to replace 30 [homers], but is that really our objective? Our objective is let's get guys on base and let Hanley and Stanton and LoMo knock them in. It's a little different because we really wailed the last few years and hit a lot of home runs." Lineup is pretty much set, depending on what Dominguez does in ST. It seems like they're content with the Coghlan CF experiment. They probably will make another move, but based on rumors, that will likely be for a SP (Pavano), not a position player. Per the Herald: The Marlins acquired infielder Omar Infante and southpaw reliever Mike Dunn in the deal, and Beinfest said the Marlins would reallocate the money that was budgeted for Uggla -- about $10 million for next season and up to $48 million over the next four -- toward signing free agents and making more trades. By the looks of it, Beinfest wants to invest Uggla's money into the team. What he wants, and what he is allowed to spend, is obviously two different things though.
