Marlins every day lineup set

Barring anything unforeseen, the Marlins' every day lineup is set. At least, the lineup the team envisions when Spring Training opens.

Around the horn, the team plans on going with John Buck (catcher), Gaby Sanchez (first base), Omar Infante (second base), Hanley Ramirez (shortstop), Matt Dominguez (third base), Logan Morrison (left field), Chris Coghlan (center field) and Mike Stanton (right field).

A few weeks ago, Florida explored some possible center field options. They were linked to having interest in Arizona's Justin Upton.

MLB.com has learned the Marlins also inquired about Tampa Bay's B.J. Upton. But the asking price didn't match.

The Marlins have no intention of trading their young core of players -- Coghlan, Morrison, Sanchez and Stanton. If Dominguez isn't ready, there is a chance the team could move some pieces around. Wes Helms could play third. Another scenario would be Emilio Bonifacio playing second and Infante sliding over to third.

As soon as the Coghlan to CF conversation started, I had very little doubt that they thought Dominguez was going to be the starting 3rd baseman immediately.

Also seems like the Marlins are to the Upton family what the Dolphins used to be to the Ginn family.

I'm fine with that.

i really hope dominguez dazzles becuase the thought of helms of bonifacio in the lineup is terrible.

My God, if Helms is back as a regular I will die.

Why not Ozzie at 2nd and Infante at third, if Dominguez isn't ready?

yea i really dont know why ozzie isnt getting some attention.

I like it.

Solid defense added to the infield with Dominguez and Infante then hopefully Hanley can keep improving and Gaby can make plays like he can.

Outfield is whatever, Stanton is good, Coghlan should be able to hold his own and LoMo should improve over time.

I love the lineup offensively though, these guys can make things happen at the plate.

My projected lineup.

Infante

Coghlan

Hanley

Stanton

Morrison

Gaby

Buck

Dominguez.

If Dominguez blossoms right away... that would be a Godsend for this team that could really put us over the top in 2011.

i'm just hoping that deominguez comes out strong and coghlan plays good defense in center............but i'm just worried they if they don't we don't have any backup plans in place

That outfield may be horrific defensively.

There are a lot of question marks in the offense. Coghlan, Gaby and Infante are the biggest and, to a lesser extent, Dominguez. I'm cautiously worried about Coghlan's 2009 second half being a fluke, Gaby being figured out by the NL and failing to make an adjustment, and Infante proving to be less than a good everyday player.

If I don't get my hopes up, it'll be better once they exceed my expectations right? One on end, I'm thinking that those are too many hits of bad luck, but on another end, it would be so Marlins-like to underperform when expected to realistically compete and overperform when not.

Hey, Stanton is out there. He'll catch everything. *nods*

i'm so god damn excited for next season.

84 wins with Mark Hendrickson as our opening day stater in '08.

now we have a comparable offense and faaar superior pitching :thumbup :thumbup :thumbup

At least Dominguez is getting time to mentally prepare for a potential full season in the Majors.

I like it.

He already is. And it's not pretty. At this stage of the off season what we can hope for is that our IF defensive genius is right about positioning is greater than range. If the other guys have a split second more maybe they can throw more strike-like tosses to 1B. Cut down on those IF throwing errors. Maybe even better positioning will cut down the doubles down the 1B line. Theoretically it should.

I'm still not satisfied. Get a real CFer, put Cogs back in LF, and LoMo at 1B. Matt, Hanley, Infante, and LoMo. That's a defensive IF.

#marlins will consider third basemen. Not quite sure dominquez is ready to hit. Defensively, he's superb already.

Where did this come from? I've been saying it for weeks now.

It's also stupid and going to bite us in the ass if Dominguez is the first choice, and our fallback players are Wes Helms, who is not a starter anymore, and Bonifacio, who doesn't hit much better than Dominguez likely will.

Also, Dominguez's 2010 line of .252/.333/.411 is not very impressive for AA. That only equals out to a .744 OPS (aka not good).

If you put a guy hitting like that in a major league lineup next year, I guarantee he's going to end up finishing with a .200-.215 BA. That's not acceptable from a team that has a shot at a wild card berth.

What they should really do is just move Coghlan to 2B, Infante to 3B, and go out and get two center fielders to platoon with Bonifacio. Or just get one and see if Cousins is going to hit. Take a flier on Lastings Milledge, or Scott Hairston. Even Melky.

I gotta agree with this. I actually like Bonifacio in CF a few days a week. Let him play whenever the grass gets high.

It is not guarenteed he will be with the team out of ST he will however be handed the job at some point next season, I guess they are considering his improvement at the plate late in the season. To the point that he will be probably starting 75% or more of the games during SI. He really will have to f _ _ _ up big time not to start with the parent club, however he has shown to be be a slow starter not only last year but throughout his minor league career. Nobody questions the glove, which is par to Zimmerman's right now. As I have said said we havent seen a defensive presence at 3rd of Dominguez type since Lowell. The bat will come along but how slowly is actually the question. I love the kid I just worry about the 12-6 curve balls and95 plus MPH fastball that move like a stripper from the Pink Pussycat is gonna affect him mentally. Hitting is about confidence and attitude more than anything. I would love to see him get at least half a season at New Orleans but realistically that may never happen. The kid is that good when you watch him play

I've been thinking this for so long now. Look how long we hung in the race from 08-10... and realize how much stronger we are this year. Our playoff hopes have realistically increased already this year.

OT: MarlinsLou, that pic you have really scares the shyte out of me man. Those two look like total tools in that pic, and they look like they have been dating for years, with Uggla having that, "Oh shyte, Ive just been exposed" look on his face.

I would love to see him get at least half a season at New Orleans but realistically that may never happen. The kid is that good when you watch him play

me too, just to get the bat a little more ML-ready.

Sigh... so rare that we actually seem to let a prospect get up here on a natural timetable.

Coghlan was probably pretty close.

Matt Dominguez at third is a joke. I'm just awaiting word on whether or not Brett Sinkbeil is going to get the opening day start.
