Considering the circumstances, Griffey did a good job to only glare in the dugout, and not also do something like yap at Beckett or stand at the plate and admire his work.

Well yeah he kind of does, but after the homer off Beckett he didn't go out of his way to take an extra long look at his homer.

 

Plus, I would be willing to bet that just about every home run hitter in the game at least somewhat stands and watches after they hit a homer.

Well, being Griffey (492 hr, all century team, future HOF), it was a slam to his abilities.

 

Casey was IBB twice to get to Griffey before this game (Houston series). That's like getting picked last when you were in elementary school and to Griffey, probably fired him up. Disrespect and all... So when he hit it out, Griffey was making a point to McKeon and the rest of the league that walking Casey to get to Junior isn't the best move to make whatever his numbers are at the time.

 

Plus, the replay they show of it always seems to be slow mo, so it looks like the glare is ALOT longer than it really was. Just a second or so.

the move was right by McKeon since Casey has been one of the hottest hitter in the league (behind Berkman who seems to be hitting like the world is gonna end tomorw) to get to JR who is batting a low 250 instead of Casey's 380 .... biiiiiiiig difference there, plus the type of hitters they are. Honestly, it makes me cringe a bit whenever I hear a player making personal comments like that to the press. Shrugging off the stare is cooler than cursing about it (check the story in the Miami Herald, the AP one sorta ignored it) in a newspaper. And it's a helluva lot cooler than smacking him with a ball- the last thing we need is a starter getting tossed out.

And Jack wasn't disrespecting Griffey but the game was tied with A LOT of rain coming down and it could have been called. If it get's called with the Reds leading, Reds win.
