June 2, 200422 yr Heard this on FSN Ohio tonight during the Reds broadcast: In response to Burnett and Beckett's comments, Jack said nothing in the clubhouse today. He simply walked up to the board, everyone watching him, and wrote: To Whom It Concerns, We won the World Series with 25 last year. Signed his name and then walked away. :thumbup

If they act up, I want them in AAA. No benching, they don't deserve to be in a Major League uni with that attitude.

June 2, 200422 yr jack knows what he is doing. even if some think he is senile with his managerial decisions sometimes.
June 2, 200422 yr Let me just say, since I don't want to make another thread for this, that Jack has not done a very good job with the pen recently. First the mistake yesterday bringing in a tired Wayne in the seventh. Now today, in the 10th inning. Nate Bump has already pitched an inning. He had pitched in his third straight game, and wasn't exactly doing a great job of it. His arm is tired and he had been getting lit up. You have the best reliever in the majors so far this season sitting in the pen, with a day's rest. Why not bring him out? Why?

There's no point in burning him up. I support Jack's decision to use Bump. The problem here isn't Jack, the problem today was Penny and his lack of control. We all knew that we needed a good 7 innings out of our starter, and we still need it tomorrow. It's been a tough few days four our pen...they're in dire need of some well deserved rest!
June 2, 200422 yr First off, Penny pitched well today. If Castro hadn't kept calling fastballs this game would have been over with an Armando save. Second, Big Poppa is the only reliable arm in the pen. He is rested. He has an ERA Sherlock Holmes can't find. Nate Bump is tired, pitching wildly from even before that, and about to face 4-5-6 in the Cincy lineup. This isn't a place where we can afford to have our closers come in during tailor made situations for them, with two run leads and no one on to start an inning. Benitez has been used before during extra inning games, why not then, especially knowing you had the bottom of the lineup due up?
June 2, 200422 yr You have the best reliever in the majors so far this season sitting in the pen, with a day's rest. Why not bring him out? Why? I agree. I was thinking the same thing.

When the game goes to extra innings, there won't be a save situation for the home team.........so are you suggesting Benitez should never be used in extra inning games at home? Bump was tired. Benitez was fully rested and should have come in for the 10th, especially since the heart of the order was coming up.
June 2, 200422 yr Hope that straightens out these two and any others in that clubhouse who is starting to get an ego. It took 25 to win the WS, not just one or two. :mad :

My only beef with Jack has been the mismanagement of the pen.
June 2, 200422 yr Benitez comes out to protect a lead, not as a reliever. There's no point in burning him up. To die without firing ALL available weapons is dumb IMO. I've said it before and I'll say it again - convention is not constraint. If you believe you can win the game, then he should go in for a 9th inning tie situation if the other club hits as well as the Reds. You can get two innings out of him if needed. If it goes beyond the 11th, then the game turns into a death march anyway. You gotta stop the constant hemmoraging to win. Everyone knows our pen is incapable of (consistantly) stopping run hemmoraging for extended periods. IMO "closer" is a term that psychologically winds up limiting effective usefulness. Stopper might be a better term - the guy who stops the other team from scoring anymore and making the game hopeless. With the top of the lineup coming up in the bottom, there wasn't going to be any better chance. tonyi and juanku are right on here. You dont save your best reliever until you have the lead everytime, especially in a game like last night.
June 2, 200422 yr Jack went a litter further. this what he put on the board ""To Whom It May Concern, Leave your egos at the door. We won last year with 25 playing as a team" JM

June 2, 200422 yr Just to add a point. You may question McKeon's management of the pen but I think that he also knows his players. I would bet that regarding Benitez (our only reliable BP pitcher) that McKeon wants to continue to build his confidence. AB has shown some characteristics that his psyche can be ruined depending on situations. Of all the pitchers, McKeon may baby AB because of our overall BP situation and in this case, felt it was best to let Bump finish off another good inning, which in turn, did not happen.
June 2, 200422 yr He has an ERA Sherlock Holmes can't find. That is the BEST line I have ever read on here! That said, STFU Burnett and Beckett. On the one hand, you love it because they are competitive. On the other hand, no one is too big for this team. Burnett (will I have to start calling him Carol?) should know better.
June 2, 200422 yr Re: bullpen The best thing McKeon has done all year is to bring Benitez in for tough situations, not just to protect the lead. Yeah, it was a slap in the face to the rest of the cast but you should use your best players in key situations. Why did he stop?
June 2, 200422 yr He has an ERA Sherlock Holmes can't find. That is the BEST line I have ever read on here! Thanks Oh, and today I have no major beef with bringing Perisho or anything, today my beef is with a fan. But Benitez didn't pitch again today. It is kinda ticking me off that he's the only guy that didn't pitch against the Reds, lead or no. It's like Choi with lefties, if you don't give him a chance in a different situation how is he going to excel when you truly need him? When your best is ready to go you have to load them up and send them out. You go down guns blazing if you must go down at all. None of this crappy attitude.
June 3, 200422 yr This is a great comment and hopefully everybody will take notice and begin to play like a team, because that is what won it all last year.
