July 28, 200422 yr Marlins Rumors All of these rumors are located in articles included in the link. 1. The Marlins might have to turn their attention elsewhere if the decision is made to upgrade the lineup with a hitter. Candidates could include everyone from the Astros' Carlos Beltran to Cincinnati's Adam Dunn. The Marlins have long had interest in Dunn, but the Reds would demand a starting pitcher and are reluctant to take on the kind of salary needed to sign pitchers such as Carl Pavano and Brad Penny next season. 2. The most staggering speculation this week was that the Florida Marlins might consider trading closer Armando Benitez to the Cubs for Pie and Guzman if the defending World Series champions decide by the end of the week that they are sellers and not buyers. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel floated that possibility. I know I also read somewhere else that the Finley deal may not be dead. It would include Finley, Mayne, Randolph for Stokes, Olsen and Abraham Nunez. I also read somewhere that Contreras could end up with the Marlins in a 3-way deal that would send RJ to the Yankees. Of course we have all read the Walker rumors. It looks like we would lose two of our top minor leaguer pitchers in that deal.
July 28, 200422 yr wow Felix Pie and Angel Guzman? thats alot 479631 hell yeah it is. Guzman is their #1 prospect and Pie is #5. I hope it doesn't happen for us, but if they do end up trading those 2 for a closer the team that gets those 2 is getting 1 hell of a deal.
July 28, 200422 yr Author Agreed. I hope we add players, but it's great to see that Bienfest is loking at all possibilities. I think with these two wins against the Phillies we are buyers for sure, but covering all the bases is a smart thing to do. Floyd and Vargas for Pavano, Lloyd, Mordy, Levinski, Wayne - WIN Encarnacion for Dempster - WIN Clement and Alfonseca for Willis and Tavarez - Can we call it a win yet? Lets be fair Clement has done well and even Alfonseca is still in the game, but we shed payroll and that was needed. I have faith in Admin either way.
July 28, 200422 yr Dunn would be nice, but I wouldn't want to give a starter up. I don't think the team should deal if it involves moving a starter.
July 28, 200422 yr Trading Benitez seems like a bad idea, unless the front office has no intentions of resigning him.
July 28, 200422 yr We won't trade Benitez even though Pie and Guzman are studs. I would hate to see another ex-Marlin in a Cubs uni.
July 28, 200422 yr Trading Benitez seems like a bad idea, unless the front office has no intentions of resigning him. 479659 His asking price for next year could be around 6 mil per season. The Marlins don't have a chance to resign him unless he is willing to give a discount. BTW Benintez trade will be awsome for the Fish but we're still in it.
July 28, 200422 yr Benitez does seem to like it here so maybe that counts for something. Perhaps we hold the key to his lock?
July 28, 200422 yr Link to Foxsports' "trade" rumors, etc. Take it for what it's worth: http://msn.foxsports.com/story/2611108
July 28, 200422 yr if we were out of the race, i would take that armando trade IN A SECOND, that is a great deal, and would really help us if pavano walks or penny next year angel is a s-t-u-d.
July 28, 200422 yr wow Felix Pie and Angel Guzman? thats alot 479631 They have stated in an article that they wont trade them two for benitez anymore. They want to keep their prospects.
July 28, 200422 yr Temptation... Are we good enough to win the WS? I havent seen it yet. But it is all about a team getting hot and we have the ability to. I just want to see us put the ball in play a lot more consistently. Why is that important? Because dealling Benitez is very tempting considering what we could get in return. Nothing would surprise me at this point, but if the FO keeps this team in tact, we should tip the cap and say they are trying to go for it when it may be more profitable in the long term to deal for young prospects.
July 28, 200422 yr You know what, I would give up Pavano for Dunn, but that's just me. 479866 I think that may only be your opinion. Dunn would die in PPS.

July 28, 200422 yr Why would you want Adam Dunn? His HR or K. 479879 Because he'll be here for a good two years and he is/is becoming a beast.
