L.A. gets Finley from Arizona and Penny & Nunez from the Marlins.

 

Arizona gets Jayson Werth from the Dodgers, and prospects (Stokes & Murphy?) from the Marlins.

I happen to agree although what's obviously holding up all deals involving pitching is to see how Beckett does tonight. At the same time you have to understand that priority number one is good roster management and the financial health of the franchise. Paying Penny $8 million next season and more in 2006 is simply out of the question, not with raises due the other starters.

Ishii would be an adequate and (more importantly) affordable replacement for Penny. Similar to Choi and DLee. LoDuca has some flexibility as well. I believe he can play some first base as well.

yeah I get caught up in the "feel-good" aspects too often....

 

If Ishii is indeed coming our way, he is under contract for 3 more years at a very affordable price for his calibur of a pitcher.

if we can't afford him next year, we trade him after we've used him this season for our playoff run.

Trading Brad now potentially helps the team NOW when we need help for another playoff run. It would be nice to keep the starting five intact but as the saying goes you have break some eggs to make an omelette.

There sure as hell better be a reliever involved somewhere in the next 2 days...

I agree with you, but we have to be smart and address our major weakspots when trading from our strength. So I would say we need to pick up a STRONG releiver and a another starter along with a productive catcher. My real concern is if Penny is gone then who fills his spot in the rotation? Out of all the trades I have heard the only one I think is worth making is the LaDuca + Ishii for Penny trade.

As the article I posted above implies the Dodgers don't want to give up DeLuca. I hope the Marlins don't trade Penny for some .250 hitting catcher.

That would be counter productive and very stupid. We already have a catcher that can produce better than that and giving away Penny for that would weaken this team. I do not think that the goal of trading Penny is strictly Salary dump. Afterall we are very much in the thick of things. If we trade Penny it has to be to make us better than we are now PERIOD! Otherwise we should keep Penny for the strech run as he is our best chance to keep things going now!

All I know is we need another bat and a RP.

IF we pick up Lo Duca and Ishii for Penny , that would be PRIMO , i think that is a fantastic trade . now as for losing Conine in this deal i would have to say HELL NO!

my problem with dealing penny is that we are almost guaranteed an automatic loss on every 5th day. we want to win NOW, and i find it hard to believe we are helping our cause by creating such a situation.

 

we just don't have a major league caliber 5th starter. every experiment we've tried this season has failed.

 

this would have to be one hell of a trade to compensate for the gaping hole it creates....getting another starter should almost be a prerequisite for giving up brad.

Ishii's not even mentioned in Stark's latest trade proposal.... Stark edited it & now it's Penny & Choi for Lo Duca, Guillermo Mota, and Encarnacion. With Florida having to go elsewhere to get another starter. Derek Lowe's name was mentioned....

 

Mota's nice, but I liked the Ishii deal a lot better.

This doesn't turn me on much. It doesn't help next year's payroll any as far as I can tell (if you figure Penny and LoDuca wash after arbitration), we give up a potential #1 starter for a catcher that's probably a rental (if we wouldn't pay Pudge $8mill a year surely we won't pay LoDuca that) and a downgrade at starter.

 

It is exciting though, atleast we're talking about this rather than selling.

I saw on espn.com that one of the proposals for the three team deal was said to involve Penny and Choi for For Guillermo Mota, Paul Lo Duca and Juan Encarnacion from L.A.

 

I like this trade, wasn't really big on giving away Juan anyways.

 

If we do trade Penny we should try to pickup lowe if we can.
