I could get all into this....how many people would like me to look up all the exact details and report back?

Git r' done!

Only an average of about 22,000 people at the ballpark a night...that's no one right?

22K for ~6M greater south FL area.

Yankees - 50K for ~20M greater NY/NJ area.

On a per-capita basis, the fish draw BETTER than the Yankees..and that' with non-existent public transportation down here.

the equation is somewhat faulty when you add in the fact that the yankees sell out almost every game, and with that in consideration you have to think that if they had a stadium with say....75k seats, they'd sell that out too.

I was simply making the observation that it's not an exact number and that $42 million was not the right number. There's lots of variables but suffice it to say if he signs elsewhere the tax implications demand a higher price to equalize a Marlins offer, which is good news for us.

Plus if you compare with teams with similiar populations, we dont match up as well. But we are on the upswing.

Washington has no income tax, so the Mariners have a similar advantage on paper. However the owner of the Mariners may not be willing to spend the money later in the season to make a run. He is Japanese and has reportedly never been to a game. Nintendo owns the Mariners BTW.

Using 2004 figures, here is the salary Delgado would have made based on the Marlins offer of $34 million/3 years.....this does not include local income taxes, local sports franchise taxes, nor does it include federal income taxes. This uses an average salary of $11.3 million a year

Marlins: $11.3 million

Rangers: $11.3 million

Mets: $11.3 millon - $872,666.67 in taxes = $10,427,333.33

Mariners: $11.3 millon

Orioles: $11.3 millon - $536,750.00 in taxes = $10,763,250.00

These are my rough calculations that are only based on state income tax. I know New York and Baltimore have other taxes as does Seattle I believe.

Yes, city taxes. In New York, they're pretty high.

By the way, what figures are you using for the New York state income taxes? Hopefully not from the link you used... the tax rate is 12-15 percent in NY if you combine state and local taxes.

Yeah compared to the rest of the league it is no one. In some baseball cities it'd be the top story on the news. Won't happen here.
