Official Carlos Delgado Thread

Featured Replies

Some deals do, but I don't know how close or far Delgado is to making any kind of decision.

Why are we perpetually teased by this team.

Man oh man do I hope this happens. The team already making him an offer is just amazing. Lets all hope the Mets sign Beltran so they dont swoop in and steal Delgado.

If they can just find a way to get rid of Encs contract and use that money.

it seems like he would love to play in texas from some of the quotes from his agent..

texas, miami, what's the difference? we all speak spanish, or some form of it.

It would make sense for him to play here, since he's very close to his home in the Caribbean.

That might be because we werent even a player before today. Perhaps that shows how important the community he plays in is to him. Clearly that would give Miami an edge. :shifty

For the record,

The owner of the Texas Rangers (Tom Hicks) is not having financial issues. He is trying to get the farm and player development systems in order. The Marlins have always been lucky enough to have a good farm, but Texas hasn't.

If this happens, I will be very very very very very very very very very very happy. But I'm not quite getting my hopes up yet, because we had a much better chance with a better player last season and we failed, took me a little while to recover from that. Let's just wait and see.

The Marlins have offered free agent Carlos Delgado a multiyear deal.

The NL East would look pretty interesting if the Marlins signed Delgado and the Mets landed Carlos Beltran. Florida remains a longshot destination for Delgado, who is seeking in excess of $50 million over four years. If the Marlins get him, they'll let Jeff Conine and Juan Encarnacion battle for playing time in an outfield corner.

If this occurs, I'll start humping the wall.

Delgado will be in baltimore next week to meet with the orioles...

well, that leaves us with one option:

sign him before next week

get that hole ready

Cape,

my information is that Hicks is having financial problems outside of his ownership of the Rangers. Not to say he is going to be broke by any means.

Only problem in Texas is Hicks finally said they must keep the budget within Ranger revenues. He will no longer subsidize the team. This is a message to his GM (one of the worst in baseball) to get on the ball and get a farm up and running.

Hicks just semi-retired from the board of Clear Channel to focus on joining the board of XM Satellite Radio. He is by no means having financial issues.

Hicks also owns the Dallas Stars and is not hurting there either. He can sit it out and have no problem. Just like he did with the Rangers in 1994.

Not sure how the luxury tax really works but heard some guy on mlb.com radio say that since the Yankees are going to be over 200 mil that they will have to pay a 40% tax rate could the luxury tax money be where the money for this contract would come from?

Palm Beach Post says the Marlins offered him a 1 year $10ish million contract. In other words, don't hold your breath since he turned down a 3/30 one already.

I say we lock all Delgado related threads to save heartache.

No because that would be about 80 million and if you divide that evenly to all teams that would make for about 2-3 million a team, if that is how it works.

It's even less then that because they are not taxed on the full 200
