Official Carlos Delgado Thread

Featured Replies

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but imagine this lineup:

1. Juan Pierre

2. Luis Castillo

3. Mike Lowell

4. Miggy

5. Carlos Delgado

6. Paul Lo Duca

7. Niner

8. Gonzo

Along with our pitching, we would be an awesome team!!

delgado at 5 is insanity

3-4-5 would be Migs, delg, lowell

these articles are promising, but after looking over the official Vlad thread a couple mins ago, i'm not gonna get too far ahead of myself

Why the heck did you do that to yourself?!? :no

3 players that could easily hit 35+ bombs, and bat .300+

im not getting my hopes too high though....

WOW :o :clapping ...Going to church on sunday to pray for Delgado to become a Marlin......I pray Beinfest is clever enough to land Carlos

Not to be one to say "I told you so' but since the offseason began I had been saying that adding a undervalued hitter like Carlos to a Pudge-like contract would be something worthwhile to consider.

This team needs power more than anything else, he'll improve our offense exponentially and coming off a down year, he might be receptive to playing for a one year and upping his value ala Pudge...

Great news, whether or not we sign him is something else but I'm pleased that the Fish are making sensible efforts.

Just heard on CBS 4 news fish offered him 3 year deal with 10-12 mil per. pretty freakin sweet. maybe there all ready counting on having some extra cash next year. you really gotta give this FO credit. even if they dont sign him. just think about it, if we land delgado it will completely change our line-up. having Enc come off the bench would be a s***ty side effect though. having a 5 mill bench warmer doesnt sit to well with me but i'd rather have Conine on the field. the problem is they probably dont want to move cabs, and i dont know if Conine is able to play RF, fill me in?

he won't take 3 years at 36 per, but it would be nice if he did

according to his agent, he wants mre than beltre (5 years 64 mill)

:plain Good luck to him on that one

Wow. :notworthy

I wouldn't be suprised if he took that offer in this weak year for first basemen in the Free Agent market. But wow, what an offer from this team. We haven't seen that for that good of a player since 1997.

I could be off on the numbers i was reading this thread when i heard it suddenly on the news, so if someone could check me on that I'd like to be sure what they're offering him

maybe/maybe not....this is the marlins first offer to him...and the agent said that he will talk to beinfest again soon...so who knows...even if delgado dosent like the offer, if the marlins are close...they might decided to add a little more to the deal

Having just surfed the web on Delgado's approach to free agency it appears he loves Boston, New York, Texas, Baltimore and every other town his agent finds someone willing to answer the phone.

I have to wonder how much of this is his agent trying to drive the price up by getting as many teams as possible bidding for his client?

That would be incredible.

Where is all this extra $$$ coming from this year?

And why couldn't some of it been freed up last year?

Don't get me wrong, Delgado would greatly enhance our entire line-up by moving a number of guys back a spot..creating a rippling effect.

i'm fairly confident that noone is lookin to the marlins to drive any prices up

I don't want to hear what his agent wants! I want to hear what Delgado has been offered. What has he been offered by other teams? Texas is playing it cheap these days, their owner is having financial issues. The Mets are busy with Beltran (his agent may not want to wait til they sign Beltran taking a major bidder totally out of the picture). The Orioles have been rumored to like Magglio.

This guy may want to play here and be willing to take deferred money this season while we are paying hampton. Delgado is a totally different contract situation then Beltre. I think Beltre is 26!

I heard what "big O" had to say and since it now has broken from other sources his entire report holds credence. He said Delgado has $50 million of the $80 million he has earned in cash or cash equivalents and probably would not have a problem taking deferred money.

I am going to research it but I am not sure there have been many 10+ milion per year contract offers made to him.

That would be incredible.

If all this is true, I imagine it would be a heavily backloaded contract, since we have Hampton, Pudge, and some other money off the books after this coming season.

The Marlins have offered free agent Carlos Delgado a multiyear deal.

The NL East would look pretty interesting if the Marlins signed Delgado and the Mets landed Carlos Beltran. Florida remains a longshot destination for Delgado, who is seeking in excess of $50 million over four years. If the Marlins get him, they'll let Jeff Conine and Juan Encarnacion battle for playing time in an outfield corner. Jan. 7 - 9:18 pm et

Don't know if this was posted yet... Looks like he's asking for a lot of money. Marlins are considered long shots.. At least according to Rotoworld.

Do deals get done during the weekend? When is this supposedly going to be determined.... which team he'll sign with

650277[/snapback]

he's takin his time

nothin i've seen, but pure specaultion from me would be after a week from today, but before 2 weeks from today
