Lefty bat candidates

Featured Replies

I am just going to insert some left handed hitting names here for us to peruse and see if any of these are possible targets.

Names mentioned:

Aubry Huff

Brian Giles

Jacque Jones

Jeremy Burnitz

Reaching:

Geoff Jenkins

Doug Mientkiewicz

Ryan Klesko (but seems to be having some injury issues right now...)

Maybe I am overlooking someone, but the options are not great. Giles is the best available, but will cost us too much. I would like to see Huff, I think he is a fine hitter and young/cheap (for now) as well. Mientkiewicz I only bring up if we need a solid hitter to replace someone departing (Lee?) or even include a pitcher from the Twins, but that is not all that appealing - I know. Klesko would be nice, but I dont know if he is available and also he is having some problems apparently, he has the flu (ok...) but has seen a physician about his shoulder. Who knows what you are getting with him.

Anything I left out?

Huff is going to be a star in this league. I don't know why the D-Rays would trade him, and he would not be cheap I would think he would be just as expensive as Giles.

I don't think so, he'll be cheaper

You gotta factor in that he is much younger than Giles, and has the potential to be very good.

Also factor in that the DRays aren't the brightest people in the world

Sigh....there is no reason in the world for the DRays to trade Huff. He's an emerging star and one of the guys you try to build your team around, not trade away. Unless of course you get an overwhelming deal for him, which I wouldn't do.

Hmm...Seems like JJ is the most available, especially because the Twins are 71/2 back? I DONT WANT HIM! LOL! Only 7BB and 70K this guy just hacks away. To have only 10 homers with that kind of ratio tells me hes failing a hell of a lot more then putting the ball in play. I would love to get Giles, but it will only happen if the Pirates fall out of contention and the Yankees get some other OFer. And then I think we would part with Stokes, Hutch, and some other above avg prospect draining our farm big time.

You guys want Russel Branyan? He Ks alot but has tremendous pop from the left side.

He hasnt got much playing time this year but has shown some ability this year what little time he has had and he wont got for a whole lot.

You mean striking out almost half the time turns you off???

I just want some Dempster payback!

:lol

out of all the names you named only person that can be available

is Burnitz and Giles

Burnitz has a heavey Contract and nobody is going after him, Brain Giles the Pirates are being dicks about him they want everybody 4 1 all star

we could trade Castilo "an All star" D.Lee a 30-30 man 4 giles and they would still reject us and say if we throw in Batstia they will make a deal...

as for the the two twin players you named i doubt they wanna trade there only 7.5 games back there divison, there is a chance if the begin the 2nd half blowing chunks like they did the 1st half they might get rid some there talent.

1 hot name who you can get and prob for cheap is Trot Nixon but we have Bad Blood with da Dead SOX so f*** that

One more guy out there, which I forgot about, is Palmeiro. Rangers want to deal both he and Juan Gon. Palmeiro could be compelling as he is a leader, lives in S Fl., Cuban, and is a lefty with power. He is batting .246 21HR right now, could hit at least 10 with us or more for the remainder of the season.

Problem? $9MM per year (I dont know how long his contract is for) and he is 38. Not much of a future with him, it is all right now which means whatever we trade is sacrificed. Plus, what do you do with Lee if you acquire Palmeiro w/o trading Lee? Just a thought...but I would like to see Juan Gon, for the right price (but I think the Yanks are after him now).

Last I heard the Dodgers were pursuing Burnitz, and there is a Detroit trade for Higgy rumor flying around also. One more guy out there, which I forgot about, is Palmeiro. A trade for Palmerio is alot like Juan. He's old, looking for a new deal (He's up at the end of the year) and needs to go to the AL where he can DH. Not coming to the Marlins, sorry.

The likelihood of Juan Gon coming to NL is much lower than AL, I admit. But to say that he isnt coming at all is a tad ridiculous. He has to finish out this year, and put up good numbers to get a good deal for next year. He may be better off playing for a contender than a celler-dweller, and will certainly get more pub that way. The Marlins are there, and what is more interesting is that both he and Pudge HAD the same agent, til they both fired him. Also, there has been talk that Pudge is trying to convince Juan to come here to finish out the year - the fact that JG excercised his no-trade with the Expos is why that is important.

Let me put it this way, if there is an NL team that is compelling to Juan Gonzalez, it is the Marlins. Anything can happen though...

A trade of Castillo and prospects for Klesko and Loretta would significantly improve our lineup this season as well as next season.

and what prospects?

and what prospects?

Well, hopefully no one such as Stokes, Bautista, A. Nunez, or Hutchinson. Almost anyone else I would venture is fair game. But I have no clue what the Padres would want in return. Though I do know they're willing to deal Klesko and Loretta, and that they've shown interest in Castillo.

Kleskos not have a great year...still has 19 HR's but his .260 BA is kind of a turn off, all in all he would be a good addition

Lorretta is doing awesome this year...batting .310, on pace for over 200 hits.

....seems like a good trade, although Castillo is wonderfully defensively and comes through in the clutch
