March 7, 2005

finally home after the night game. it wasn't a pretty one. as y'all can see, our offense is struggling. i know there weren't too many regulars in the lineup tonight, but even when they are in, we just aren't hitting like we are capable of doing.

i got the nod tonight for the start. i thought i'd be backing up at the most, but when i walked into the locker room today i saw the lineup. at first i thought it was a mistake and it took me a few seconds to realize that it was today's lineup. i instantly became nervous, so i tried to get my mind off of it by taking some swings in the cage.

we went through our regular pre-game routine of stretch, throw, infield, and batting practice. josh pitched a stellar 4 innings - only 2 hits and no runs. i was still nervous catching him during the game. i'm not sure why though - i've known him since playing against him in high school (i went to kingwood, he went to spring - about a 20 minute difference). i talked with treanor since he's been in that situation. he said that he was like that at first as well. i actually didn't calm down until nate bump came in to start the 5th inning. i have played with nate for longer than josh (because JB's been in the show more), so i was more comfortable with him. plus i knew how he liked to pitch. bentz came in to start the 6th and didn't do so hot. his curveball wasn't working and he didn't throw any change ups (although i called them) so he got hit pretty easily. he gave up 4 runs on hits and walks and ended up taking the loss. after that i came out of the game and willingham went in to catch. mecir threw one shutout inning along with alfonseca.

we finally got on the board in the 7th (or was it the 8th ?). andino led off with a double and was moved over to third on a flyball to right center. then a groundball brought him home. with 2 outs joe dillon hit a monster home run over the bud light sign in left center field. we came close to coming back in the 9th. josh wilson led off with an infield single to the hole in shortstop. but we couldn't come up with any other hits after that.

delgado was still feeling some pain in his elbow and decided to sit out of the game again today. lo duca's wrist is bothering him a little bit as well, so he's being watched and wasn't able to play.

tomorrow we head to vero. but for now, i'm goin to bed because i'm worn out and stuffed from the spread - Park Ave BBQ provided by Mota - that's one thing i think is so great about these players is that someone different buys a post-game spread (meal for those not in the know). of course it's usually the guys that are making the money. i have yet to and don't expect to see any invitee buying food.

Aww :D

Dillon mashes another one....

cool that Jorgy got the start & caught Beckett. Sounds like Josh pitched well, that's good news.

How'd Ryan do at the plate?

& by the way Jorgensen is springing for the first MarlinsBaseball.com buffet spread. I've decided.

Keep up the great work in ST and with the articles Ryan. :thumbup

His journals keep getting better and better.

yeah definitely. i was thinking the same thing. lots of good info in this one.

seems like he did a good job behind the dish. always a good thing.

Yes, I remember that Ryan was really good behind the plate when I saw him in Portland in 2002 (the Marlins' final year with them - we cancelled our season tickets after that). It's great that you can have the opportunity to work with some of the same guys from the minors (like Nate, who was also a part of that 2002 team), but this time wearing a major league uniform. It's nice also to see Ryan work so well with Beckett - I would think that this experience will come in handy down the road. :thumbup

How did Jorg do at the plate?

Anyway, it's nice to see him update it almost every day...Very generous.

Sounds like Jorg is great at calling games. I just got done playing MVP Baseball 2005 and I used Josh against the Cardinals... shutout, 12K's, 2 hits. Nasty. :lol

you tell chad bentz

take charge

don't let him shake you off

Chad Bentz, according to the journal, was the one who was shaking Ryan off in the game, not Nate. That's what I thought you were referring to.

I think he's done for his career.

That's what I've heard from recent speculation.
